Direct Gardening Reviews

I ordered plants from this company. They wasted no time charging my credit card. After 3 weeks, I contacted them to see if my order had shipped and was told it had not been shipped. I told them to just cancel my order and refund my money. They said they would, but the refund never came. Twice more, I contacted them and asked that my money be refunded. Each time they said the refund was being processed. It's been weeks now since they agreed to refund my money and I still haven't gotten the refund and don't expect to ever get it if I wait on them to do it. I'm now having to file a dispute with my credit card company to get my money back.

Should have read these reviews about Direct Gardening and then I would not have thrown away my money. Was looking for a specific rose bush and Direct Gardening was the only one who had it at the time. Purchased it, prepared pot with gardening soil and rose feed then planted according to instructions. After a month no sign of life and it clearly is a dead stick, I sent them a letter requesting a replacement plant.

Ordered from Direct Gardening, 3 Blue Girl Hybrid tea roses, 1 Senoir Prom, 1 Mon Cheri, AND recieved, 3 Peace roses, 1 Pink Treasure, 1 Red Treasure, 1 Pope John Paul, 1 Hotel California. All of the roses that were shipped, were disgusting!

Broken canes, slimy black buds, mold, totally unacceptable! Sent the shipping label and letter of discription, and, was sent back a letter of denial. What the _uck? honestly, I have never recieved anything like this!

The product is WRONG! and, in TERRIBLE condition! And to add salt to the wound, they denied me reimbursement! What happened to pleasing the customer? Jamie Kaufmann

These plant companies are all the same and I have gotten dead plants and cant get them on the phone and I have catalogs for all of these companies.

Dutch Gardens, Direct Gardening, House of Wesley, Inter-State Nurseries, Burgess seed, Four Seasons, Richard Owen, Exciting Gardens, Kelly Nurseries, Royal dutch, Honeycreek Nurseries.

I have been buying from each of them and have had dead plants in every order, planted them because told they were dormant and finally realized after 2 years they are all the same people using addresses in 2 locations, with several phone numbers around the same. I am out a few hundred dollars and have more plants from a few of their new companies that wont revive.

I started to investigate online and comparing the catalogs and realized I am one of hundreds and they all need to be put together and shut down.

1. Lied to by initial POC regarding product (they stated plants 6-12 inches) (10/17)

2. Called to cancel after finding out product was seedlings. (10/19)

3. Per customer service sent email to cancel product (10/19). They stated "But I cannot guarantee they will get your email"

4. Received email stating shipment has been made (10/26)

5. Spoke with custmer service rep AND supv. regarding returning shipment for refund. I was informed that returning product would entail me having to pay for shpping costs WITHOUT any way for reimbursement. (10/30). Basically because of their internal failures I was the one financially responsible for getting them back their (probably now dead) product.

6. I was refused the opportunity to speak with the "office manager" by them saying "she doesn't speak to clients of the phone".

I ordered 24 Indian Current Coralberries, 2 Pink flowering almonds, and 24 burning bush from Direct Gardening. I soaked the roots in water and planted all of these as directed in July of 2017. I watered all of these plants every other day. I waited until May of 2018 to see any sign of life. I sent a registered letter to Direct Gardening on May 9th, 2018, first delivery attempt was refused, finally on May 17th, 2018 they accepted the letter requesting replacements for all of the above mentioned plants but 7 burning bushes. With the exception of the 8 bushes, all others did not show any sign of life in 2017 or in 2018. I have emailed them 3 times now to get a follow up on the request for replacements, no response. I have tired to call them 20 times since May 17th, 2018 and receive a busy signal. I have been gardening for 25 years and have experience with growing bare root plants. I am very surprised of the amount of plants that survived. 14% (7 of 50) plants showed any sign of life in 2017 and came back in 2018. This is a very low percentage of survival. I would not recommend Direct Gardening at this point, even if you are an experienced gardener.

This company sells seeds and plants online. Several of the plants I ordered arrived dead and this company did not honor their guarantee to me. It takes weeks to get them to correspond instead of days, and they hardly ever answer their phone. They keep giving the run-around, so they don't have to replace their bad plants. Avoid the mistake I made and don't do business with these disreputable (and probably dishonest) people.

I purchased several hundred dollars worth of flowers, shrubs and trees from Direct Gardening. Only one shrub and four flowers survived. Their products are so small that you can expect it to take years before you see anything resembling a flower or a shrub.

Almost all the products I ordered came extremely dried out or dead. I planted them anyway, hoping that some of them would survive. They offer a return/replace/credit for any of their products that do not survive but the process is so cumbersome that it's not worth the time and effort. They did in fact replace some of the shrubs and the tree but the replacements were just as bad, as in "worthless". I'm not going to seek replacement of all the other Direct Gardening products I ordered. It's simply not worth my time and effort, knowing that I'll receive the same worthless products again.

There is no way to check your orders at Direct Gardening, no way of knowing when the products are shipped and no notifications that the products were delivered. It's like you're a ghost in their system. The only way to know anything about your orders is to call them and more often than not you will be given either no information or incorrect information.

I recommend that everyone stay away from these companies. Run far and run fast when you hear the name Direct Gardening. Do yourself a favor and visit your local nurseries and big box stores where you can actually see the size and condition of the horticulture products you want to purchase.

Warning! Do Not Buy Plants from Direct Gardening. After you place your order and they take your money upfront, weeks and months go by before you receive your order. The quality and packaging of the plants is both poor and sub-standard. Their customer service consits of 1 person which explains why their customer service phone line is always busy or just rings and rings. Their Refund policy consists of Returning your items within 14 days or you are not entitled to a refund. Really? Direct Gardening takes weeks to ship your order but if you want a refund you Must ship back expeditiously! Also, they discourange you fron sending plants back stating repeatedly the plants appear in poor condition because they are "dormant" and they will be quite fine by Spring. Well, guess what? By Spring, the plants do not look any better and the customer is out of Refund as the return period for a refund has long expired.

When I first contacted them, the online form kept bouncing my order. I e-mailed them to ask what was the problem. They didn’t know but they would look into it. The correction wasn't immediate and finally after trying several times over a few weeks, my order was finally accepted. Then I waited three more weeks for the plants to arrive—they were dead. Direct Gardening’s solution: plant them and wait another six weeks to see if they take. I planted them and after a week, my landscaper declared them beyond dead. I contacted Direct Gardening a second time asking how long it would take for a replacement to arrive since I was now within a month of planting season ending here in the northeast. Direct Gardening’s answer was a snide, “read our previous e-mail about how to get replacements” but neglecting to give an answer as to how long it would take for those replacements to arrive. With that, I called my credit card company and cancelled my payment including the almost ten dollars for shipping me dead plants. Stay clear of this very unprofessional company.

Order No. HCVHGNNZE Dated 5/14/2016

Four roses bushes $55.96 Pd by credit card online

Bushes arrived in dead looking condition and have failed to thrive for the 6 weeks since planted upon arrival. All bushes are black, with no green leaves or anywhere on plant. Scraped bark reveals totally dead plants.

Company refuses to honor warranty unless I provide original packing material from 6 weeks ago and label, although I have supplied all the pertinent data regarding the purchase.

I wish I had read customer reviews before honoring this rip off company with my business!

Called June 20th..."too hot to ship sent workers home". Emailed June 24, with no reply. Called today June 28 and told 2 items on my order "won't be shipped now till fall". I couldn't believe this company shipped me a plant that was dead. Not only was it dead but even the roots were missing! How can you grow plants and then ship dead plants? Better get ready to get stung if you deal with this company.

On my very first order where I generously purchased over $50 worth of plants they sent me a dead blackberry plant. I mean this thing was no more than a stick with a single tiny hair of a root that was so small I'm sure if it had a root at all that was dead on arrival.

The other plants survived after I left them in the house for a month since they were shipped to me way too early. This was very bad getting them too early but matters were made worse by trying to contact the company. They refused to send a replacement unless I sent them an explanation letter and personal credit card informatiion to make it impossible to make a claim. What was the big deal to send another $9 plant? Real ripoff artists!
