Daren Wooten, MD Reviews

Mr. Wooten showed up on the appointment day (Aug 17th), and indicated that Home Advisor (HA), had notified him that the job was to replace a door that I was providing (wrong!). Once he determined the project was not as described, Mr. Wooten advised me that a new door was needed and that while he was already here he would "scope" out what was needed to do the door. After forty five minutes Mr. Wooten said he determined what he needed and would go to Lowe's to get a door and other supplies. So far, the need for supplies seemed to be a reasonable next step.

Later this day, Mr. Wooten sent me a text explaining that he had priced the door and all (?) at Lowe's. Lowe's did not have the door in stock and he would have to order it. His text indicated the door to be available in a couple of days. On Monday (Aug 24th), via another text, Mr. Wooten advised me the door was in and he inquired as to the day he could come out. I told him Wednesday or Thursday (Aug 26th or Aug 27th), would work. He asked for Thursday at 11:00am which I agreed to.

When Thursday came, Mr. Wooten failed to show up at the agreed upon time instead texting me (at 12:30pm), that he was at Lowe's and they couldn't find the door. But, as soon as Lowe's did find the door he would be out shortly thereafter.

Mr. Wooten arrived shorlty after 1:00pm and said it would take about 3 hours to get the work done. Four hours later Mr. Wooten told me the install was finished. When I looked at the installed door I was shocked! The door was not installed correctly. Door was not centered within the door opening. One side of the door finished frame had a very noticable bend and a wide gap between the door finished frame and the door opening. The other side of the finished frame had no gap at all. The door was missing the striker plates and lock guides for the deadbolt and door knob. The door knob/lock didn't work at all. Worse yet, the door wasn't even sealed from the outside elements. From the inside of the house looking towards the outside I could see light coming through the door seals. The exterior part of the door finished frame had a space about 1/2" betwen the vinyl siding and the finished frame.

I spent the next 30 minutes detailing my concerns while he tried to convince me that the door was correctly installed. Since I still owed him money for the new door and old door removal I told him I would not pay him until the door was made water tight. After an hour of banging and drilling I looked at the door install and it was worse.

It was at this point that I realized that no matter what I was asking for he did not have the expertice to do the job correctly. I was so frustrated and just wanted him gone. I paid him what I owed him and sent him on his way.

I telephoned HA to complain and they agreed to send out another contractor. Today (Aug 30th), the new contractor arrived (on time no less!), surveyed the installation and quickly informed that the door had been stalled incorrectly and would need repair. And...I have to buy a new door.

HA will not refund any amounts paid and they will not cover the cost of a new door but, they did say they are not charging for the new contractors time.

So, I guess the next step is to go to the courts.
