I received the exact email others have when inquiring about an apartment on Craigslist. As soon as I told them I have my credit report from another angency the emails stopped and no apartment was ever available and/or seen. Here is the email:

Now that I read the email more carefully I see scam all over it!

Credit Updates is a scam, it asks for your information to retrieve your credit report and says the services can be cancelled without any other charges being made to your account, however it charged one dollar and then it charged 29.95 for two months in a row after I cancelled the services. When I called they said they would return my money and did the first time but then charged me again the following month. They gave me a confirmation number and said my money would be returned when it wasn't they sent me a phone number to call I did and the phone service was disconnected, I emailed them at the email address I had used before and it came back to me.
I was looking for a place to rent on Craigslist and came across an ad for a home for rent. The rent was reasonable, maybe too good to be true, which should've been the first red flag. I answered the ad by email. I received an email response stating that the owners have several properties available but that they require me to obtain my credit report before scheduling a tour. They linked to creditupdates.com. I signed up for the service (12/18/16) which states you will receive a trial period for $1 and that you can cancel anytime. When I tried responding to the email to let the person know I would like to tour their properties, the email was kicked back. I researched creditupdates.com and came across several reports about their scam. I immediately cancelled my account and received an email confirmation (12/19/16) that my account had been cancelled. A few days later I noticed a pending charge on my account (12/22/16) for $29.
95. I contacted Chase to have the charge removed. They credited the charge back. I noticed another $29.95 charged to my account one month later (1/20/17). There are two different phone numbers associated with the Dec/Jan charges, neither of the phone numbers match the number on their website. When I called them both I reached a man named "Julian". He stated that they do not have a record of my cancelling the account. He also said the reason I was charged $29.95 immediately, rather than qualifying for the $1.00 trial period was because I'd signed up for the service before. (I don't recall ever doing so) He said I'm being refunded the second $29.95 as a courtesy and that they've cancelled my account. I contacted Chase to dispute the $29.95 and they will be blocking further charges from this outfit. All in all, this is an intricate scam. They appear to be a legitimate credit service that uses unscrupulous ways to sign up unsuspecting victims and probably charge them several months or more before they realize they're being charged every month. By the time they figure it out, it's too late to get refunds for all the past months they've been charged.
This is a scam posing as a rental property to get you to buy a credit report. I am afraid that they now have my entire information.

Problem is, there is no property for rent. The photos and description are fake, and the entire ruse is a scam to get you to pay $29.95 for a partial credit report, and sign you up for a continuing monthly charge of $29.95.
Looking for a place to live, a friend told me about a place she saw on craigs list. I emailed the person and I received a email back saying the are renovating with all new appliances and it would be ready soon. I was to click on the link below to get my credit score. So I did, I filled out all the info but never received my score. Now to finally realize it was a scam from crediupdates.com. needless to say they took the $1.00 fee from my account. I know it was only one dollar but they have all my bank card info. So I canceled my card to keep my cash protected, this is not fair that these people can do this to someone. Thank you
CreditUpdates.com is advertising its website through Craigslist via rental scamming. The poster advertises a seemingly legit property for rent with pictures, waits for prospective renters to reply by email, and sends out the following email, or one extremely similar to it. I know this because I found the fake ads, recognized the properties in my hometown, and drove by them. I left notes on the doors for the "landlord" to call me, and got calls back from confused tenants who had no idea what I was talking about.
Note: When you print the "free" $1 credit report, you are informed in very small letters that if you don't cancel within a week, your credit card will be charged $30 monthly. Conveniently, nobody is available to cancel your account before the week is up. Do not use creditupdates.com. Beware of rental ads that seem too good to be true, or ads that are "desperate" for you to rent from them.

I purchased LifeLock out of fear, but now just wondering if this scam is for identity theft (i.e. they asked for/have my SS#), OR if it's a scam just to make money each month from the credit card. THoughts?!
