County Schools Inc. Reviews

  • Aug 10, 2015

As with several others here, I was duped by representatives of County Schools, Inc. In my case, I was signed up for the travel agent homestudy and then a couple of weeks in Bridgeport for in-house training on the Apollo reservation system then in use by travel agencies around the world. I was assured that the student loan I was signing for would cover the costs of both my homestudy and my travel and lodging costs for the in-house part of the study.

I completed the homestudy portion of the course with no problem, but when it came time to travel to Bridgeport, they refused to disburse the rest of my funds for travel and room & board. They also told me that if I didn't find a way up there in that month I was going to be scratched and hung with the student loan debt. Guess what?

I was out of work when I signed up for the course, so naturally I had no means to pay for travel to Bridgeport! They knew I was unemployed when they signed me! As another person reported concerning this (now defunct) school, they were predators preying on the poor and disenfranchised and their hopes for a better financial position in life, and then pulling the rug out from under them!

I recently sent e-mail to President Obama, and recieved a letter from the Dept. of Education, from some dim-witted bureaucrat named Mark LaVia. He obviously didn't bother to do any research at all on the case, because he dismissed my claims of fraud out-of-hand, saying:

"No evidence has been found that fraudulent activity by the school has affected your student loan account."

This is an outright lie, and a measure of the bureaucrat's incompetence. County Schools, Inc. was mentioned by name in the Educational Assistance reauthorization bill in 1998 (12 years after my experience with them!) as being guilty of "significant violations of law or regulation!

"Five of these nine correspondence schools had been audited or investigated by the OIG, and significant violations of law or regulation were found.

The Distance Education and Training Council (DETC), formerly the National Home Study Council, (the accrediting agency for the vocational correspondence schools), is now the accrediting agency for distance learning schools.

1. Facts about the DETC.

2. OIG audit report Audit of the Title IV Student Financial

Assistance Programs Administered by County Schools, INC.

Bridgeport, Connecticut, ACN 01-00001, dated April 1991. "

I have since sent a freedom of information act request for a copy of that OIG audit report, and a copy of my contract with County Schools, Inc. and the associated loan papers. I fully intend to pursue this to the very end. I have no other choice, and neither do you if you've been a victim of this scam! Everybody who's been suckered by these ghouls needs to speak up, and stick together in order to effect our release from a debt we have been falsely and fraudulently saddled with! Contact me at t and let's lawyer up and sue all the b*******!
