About two years ago I entered a magazine sweepstakes with CountryWide Perioicals. Afterwards, they started sending me magazines and charging my account monthly. I never wanted the magazines, and when I called to cancel they refused saying that I agreed to a "contract" and that they had me on tape saying so.
I don't know if this is true or not, it's been so long ago. I only recently pursuaded them to stop charging my account after I reported them to the Better Buisness Bureau. It is upsetting though that I've lost so much money due to their scam. It was only after doing my own research that I discovered that they have been scamming hundreds of people by changing their buisness name periodically. Beware of this company!
This week i received a book for the family handyman i called about it have not ordered the company said it is paid or ordered till 2020 we are elderly i said that cannot be correct said i ordered in 2016 and due again in 2017 May and is ordered thru 2020. I called SUBCO who is shown as company diostributing the family handyman magazine they gave me the info aboiut countrywide periodicals and phone # I told them to cancel magazine and not to send any more to our address i still am puzzled if the costs are being added to our business credit cards still used for gas & travel as do not always check too closely as book keeper takes care of when traveling. I will be looking up records since retired when return from current trip next month. I rarely use credit cards only for trips & gas never for magazines.
Daughter used debit card to purchase a small internet item and does not remember there being a 3 day trial for magazine purchases! No information, confirmation or order invoice sent pertaining to any magazine perscriptions.
I noticed the charge and asked her about it and she told me that she had no idea about it. The first charge did not include a phone number to call to rebuke the sale. Next month the magazines started to arrive, and I noticed another charge but with a slightly different name but there was a phone number. I called the number and was refused a refund, cancellation was not granted and they would totally rude.
I tried for several months to get them to stop sending the magazines and tried to find a representative who could help me..even tried to contact the magazine companies but they had no account information that was even remotely the same as ours. So who's account do these magazines belong to? And how can I get them to stop being delivered to my address?
I canceled my card, so they will not be able to continue charging me and now I have received a collection letter for $697.20!! I will not pay for this debt, it isn't my debt! I never authorized the charges in the first place!
I will take this to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and see how else I can spread the news about these Scammers!
I was supposed to receive an ipad when i ordered my books and magazines but I only received 6 books 1 magazine and I never received the ipad they said that they Told me that they don't know who told me I would receive a ipad that they do not so that .this was after I paid the 3 payments that they said this to me now I have received only 6 books one magazine and a 962.00 bill that they want immediately and the countrywide periodicals turned it over to interstate recovery service they have called me twice and threatened me about demanded that I pay them 192.40 this month then then pay 96.20 from July -october they demanded that I pay this every other week.
this place is such a scam. They make you prepay 5 years of magazines with no option to cancel. don't sign up. they are no help if you call them. the employess are complete losers.
