Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware

A couple of months ago it came to my attention that my daughter Cathryn had an insurance policy that had been taken out on her in 2010 for $25,000. She was 14 at the time. What makes this situation different than most others is that no one in our family took out the policy. The bigger issue is that her father's ex-wife Christine Sampson, a State Farm agent with offices in Pleasant Hill CA, did.

In 2010 when the policy was initiated, my ex-husband and his second wife were already divorced. A nasty divorce that is ongoing today. The document is signed by her then secretary Leslie when it should have been signed by the agent. Because my daughter was a minor and a parent had to sign, my ex-husband's signature was copied, cut and pasted from another policy without his knowledge or consent. We know this because the agent that has been servicing their account(s) since 2009 showed my ex-husband and my daughters the documentation two months ago. It shows that he was paying all the accounts, including this one, but he never even knew it existed. According to the documentation he paid until 2011. From then until now Christine Sampson has been the sole payer of this policy and she is the number 2 benefactor as well.

Here's the problem. Besides fraud with intent, and the illegal, immoral and unethical behavior of a State Farm agent according to their published guidelines, my daughter's policy is not the only one that was fabricated by Christine Sampson. Basically, this policy was generated so that Christine could win a trip to Europe. AND this is not the only policy that was generated from her list of clients. There are others. Many others. Over a period of years. What's scary for me though, is that my daughter's policy is still in place.

Here's the even bigger problem. State Farm is dragging their feet in their investigation even though they have determined there was fraud. Then again, there is a lot to investigate. Seems that Christine Sampson was also accessing all the policies that no longer had her name on them and she was altering the information. For example, the mortgage on the family home which belongs to my ex-husband. For over two years the main social security number on the account has been changed to reflect Christine Sampson's SS. That means that no one can speak to an agent, pay a bill, or change any information until proof of identity and/or identity fraud has been established. This was done no less than 4 times and takes weeks to correct. State Farm has still not fixed the issue and Christine Sampson continues to illegally access accounts and policies of my children and their father although her divorce was final in 2009.

What should be a concern to many policy holders and clients is that Christine Sampson has access to confidential, privileged information and is using it to benefit financially; unbeknownst to her trusting clients. It should bother anyone with a policy from her agency or any policy from someone that works for her. I'm sure that this is not the normal course of business for State Farm. I can tell you that I have expressed my concerns regarding my father's State Farm policies, (some of them are more than 40 years old), to his agent here in Las Vegas and that I fear Christine Sampson may be illegally accessing them to see what has been bought, added, changed or modified in any way. Yes, it's that bad. It's also very illegal.

On a footnote. Christine Sampson was not the best "step-mother" to my daughters who are now old enough to tell their story. She was physically, verbally and mentally abusive to my then 6 and 9-year-old daughters and orchestrated a life of fear for them that is coming to light more and more each day. We are taking legal steps at this time that include the demand that she cancels the policy on my youngest daughter which she is refusing to do. (?) I'm sure you can imagine that such a person having an insurance policy on a child that is not theirs would be cause for concern. Anyone with a policy from her agency should be very concerned about privacy and confidentiality.
