Century Diamonds, Inc. Reviews

  • May 29, 2019

In the fall of 2018, I purchased a pair of diamond earrings on the Net from Century Diamonds also d/b/a Dara's Diamonds. The earrings I purchased were 1.25 tcw and graded "H" for color by Century Diamonds. The Century website states that their "H" diamonds are "essentially clear" which corresponds to the industry standards and those of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and the color I intended to purchase.

The earrings I purchased were for my wife's birthday later that month. When she opened them, it was obvious that they were far from "essentially clear", instead a bright yellow color. Soon after I contacted Century (not easily accomplished) and the man I spoke to requested that we send a photo of the earrings by E-Mail, which we did. Having received no response for several days I called again. This time a woman took the call and had no idea what I was talking about, not having ever seen the photos and had no idea who I had spoken to previously. I was taold that it had been over 30 days and there was nothing they could do.

The GIA is a non-profit organization that is widly accepted as the industry standard for apprising diamonds Using their grding charts (readly available on the Net and in published literature) I believed the diamonds would be graded about an "M", far from an"H".

When I questioned Century about this, they stated they use their own grading appraiser, Jonathan Banks, who is "world famous" Certified Master Gemologist, with GGS (Gemological Grading Service) . My search for information about GGS and Jonathan Banks reveals the only connection to either is Century Diamonds. There appears to be no information abour this "world famous" gemologist. His organization and Century appear to be one in the same.

To verify the grading pf the diamonds I received, I had them apprised by a GIA certified appraiser through a reputable jewler who has been in business since 1933. The results were that the diamonds were actually graded as a Q" or "R"!! Very far from an "H".

So clearly, I have been the victim of a sucessful scam where one purchases diamonds graded "H" by Century and are actually "Q" or "R" in quality. The diamonds don't even meet their own standards. A clear case of fraud. Use caution when purchasing diamonds and stay away from Century!
