Central Maine Moving & Storage Reviews

  • Aug 11, 2017

My husband and I are senior citizens on fixed income. We engaged Central Maine Moving and Storage to move us from one part of Maine to another part of Maine. In hindsight, we should have interviewed other companies, but was happy with the moving Coordinator, Dan Leighton - who gave us some free boxes and packing tape. That FREE moving kit failed to make up for the nightmare of a move.

On November 14, 2016, the driver "Matt" showed up. He got stuck in a ditch and his crew was just sitting around doing nothing. This this was an hourly rate move, I told them to come to the house and start tagging items for inventory. I also called the company to say I would not pay for the driver getting the 52 foot van into a ditch.

It took 1 1/2 days for them to load up. The crew were decent to talk to. The driver had a "chip on his shoulder" from the beginning.

On November 16th, they came to deliver. Here is where the nightmare begins:

1.) They broke a tree limb from a large tree. When I told the driver to be more careful, he sarcastically replied, "Tree Trimming is Free."

2.) The crew began urinating on my bushes. My husband saw this and told them to use the bathroom on the first floor. They continued to urinate on the bushes.

3.) The driver said the crew was hungry and asked US to go get them pizza. We refused. However, my husband make them 20 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. We gave them 1 water bottle or a soda each. The ungrateful crew, raided our refrigerator, without asking, and drank the rest of the soda and water - leaving nothing for us.

4.) They broke off a piece of iron on the queen size bed. The driver, "Matt" just put the piece in a far corner of a closet and failed to tell us about the broken off piece.

5.) They dropped a hand carved, 4 foot bear on its head and broke off the ears in 9 pieces. They did not show this to us until it was late in the day and we were all tired. I recall looking on the floor for the broken pieces.

6.) Also, they put a glass cabinet in the cargo hold of the truck - a place where they usually store their ladders and tools. They broke it. Then, the sneaky driver, told me to sign a piece of paper saying they were not responsible for fiberboard bookcases. I saw they delivered the bookcases intact, and just signed it. Later, he changed to to be the glass cabinet they broke.

7.) When I saw the piece was missing, the next day, I called the company. The people, who work there are either silly friendly or just plain rude. I was told, by General Manager, Mike Morin, that the piece, along with a ladder and some shelving was SAFE and would be delivered to me in 10 days when, the driver, Matt, was on the road again.

Well, here is what happened:

On November 26th, the driver called about 12:30 PM. I asked him about the glass cabinet. His cruel reply was, IT BROKE APART AND WE THREW IT AWAY.

I was very upset and told him YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO DO THIS. He said he was coming at 2:30 PM and hung up. I was looking outside. When 2:35 PM came around, I saw his truck, but he never stopped. He just threw the ladder and shelving pieces on the lawn and drove off, leaving up to get them.

Then, he called us after 3:00 PM and I said WHY DID YOU THROW AWAY MY GLASS CABINET, AND WHY DID YOU THROW OUR BELONINGS ON THE GROUND, LIKE DIRT?

He said to me this:

Lady, why don't you check yourself into a mental hospital. You are crazy!!!

I was livid with rage. I called this Dan Leighton. I called Mike Morin. I even left a message for the owner, Ray Lynch.

Here is the long and the short of it. Despite all my calls, the owner, Ray Lynch and the General Manager simply do not care about Customer Service. They claimed that they "TALKED" to this driver, Matt.

I filled out the claim form and claims all this, plus other items they lost or broke. They just gave my claim over to their

insurance company and I lost $500 in the deductible. The insurance company was okay to deal with and seemed sympathtic to my plight.

I told them to raise the rates of Central Maine Moving and Storage, since they allowed this to happen in the first place.

In short, we paid almost $5,000 for the move, including insurance - and got badly treated, stressed out, and ripped off int he process.

I would advise all readers of this report, to carefully check out any moving company you hire. Don't let this happen to you.
