Cavaliers of Healdsburg Reviews

  • Jun 4, 2020

Cavaliers of Healdsburg is owned and operated by Shelley Anderson in Healdsburg, California, 95448. I contacted Shelley a few days back in regards to securing a place on the waiting list for a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Puppy. She did not disclose there were 49 deposits ahead of me until I had asked the waiting period. She stated she had 49 deposits at the time I contacted her (and likely has more now), there is no time frame as to when she provide the puppy, and it clearly states that deposits are non-refundable.

In essence, if you send this breeder a deposit, she can legally choose to never provide you with a puppy and keep your money since there is no time frame as to when she will provide the puppy. She also states on multiple websites she has only 3-4 litters per year, but in her email to me stated she has 6-7 litters. Even at 7 litters per year, it would take years to fill 49 deposits since Cavaliers have small litter sizes. She also has primarily black and tan puppies on her Facebook page, so if someone wants a desirable color like Blenheim or Tri (which I definiely would if I'm paying $2,600 for a dog) you would be waiting many more years for your puppy. I was asked for an $800 deposit immediately upon contacting her. She provided a list of questions to act as if she cared about where her pup was going and the type of home it would have, but immediately attached a contract and asked me for $800 before I even had a chance to respond to any of her questions! I attached photos of our email transcripts, including her contract. She became irate once I pointed out that she was trying to scam me and doing nothing more than collecting deposits and not providing people with their puppies within a reasonable amount of time.

Additionally, if you look on her website, she proudly states that her one dog had 33 puppies! I also attached a photo of that her should she try to delete that off her site. Considering the small litter sizes Cavaliers have, that means she bred that poor dog 9-10 times! The Cavalier Club of America talks about ethical breeding and breeders should only breed their females 3 times in their lifetime and only 1 litter per year. Cavaliers of Healdsburg is a puppy mill in that she is overbreeding her females to the point where it's animal abuse and anyone who purchases a dog from her is basically contributing to her females being abused. Additionally, if she already has 49 deposits and knows that the wait time is exceptionally long, only a greedy scammer would continue to advertise to try and collect more deposits from unsuspecting families who are looking for a family pet.

Shelley Anderson at Cavaliers of Healdsburg is running a scam combo puppy mill in that she's going around collecting dozens of deposits, making people wait years for a puppy, making it clear that you will lose your $800 deposit and that it is not refundable (even if it takes 4 or 5 years for your puppy), and abusing her females by breeding them 9-10 times to be able to produce enough puppies.

Their website and other pages are listed below. I attached their website which states that just one female had 33 puppies in her lifetime. If you call other breeders they will tell you the average litter size for this breed is around 3 or 4, which basically means that poor little dog was bred until her lifeless body couldn't even hold another litter. I am very glad I chose not to give this breeder a deposit as I would have lost my $800 and I would have been partaking in animal abuse as the number of times she is breeding her females is considering abusive!

Ask for her Vet's phone number and call to verify the number of times her females are breing bred! She also states on her pintrest page that she owns a beautiful vacation home! If you sent her $800 than you helped pay for her vacation home. Proof of everything (including screen shots) is attached should she go back and try to delete pages. Their YouTube video states they have had 107 puppies, and that was posted 3 years ago. Wow, just wow! Please do your research and avoid being scammed and contributing to a puppy mill / animal abuse. Their phone number is 707-481-3934 and their email address is [email protected]
