Carbon Behavior Reviews

  • Dec 27, 2020

We engaged Ryan Norman of Carbon Behavior for a Facebook Marketing Campaign. From the beginning, I knew there would be issues because he was slow to respond right from the start of the campaign and did not initiate providing any updates as to the status of the project. We had to take the lead in requesting repeated updates on the campaign from him and he did not complete key milestones when and as agreed. It took him two weeks just to take action on the direction of the campaign that we outlined as "time sensitive" and every meeting with him, we faced a nonstop wall of words with little action to show for it.

The final straw for us was seeing the sloppy rush job he did on our landing page at the last minute, right before a scheduled meeting to update us on his progress on October 30th. That was work that we had requested more than 2 weeks prior. He then claimed that he could not get into the landing page account he supposedly created for us, only for us to later discover that the account had never even been created! We asked for an update on our remaining balance and he shot out a figure of $350-400, apparently without bothering to check the campaign to see what the balance really was.

We repeatedly asked for performance reports and campaign results and never got them. Just more delays, hot air, and procrastination. Realizing that we were getting nowhere with our campaign and running out of time, we terminated our agreement on November 2, 2020 and asked him to refund the remaining unused $350-400 ad spend that he told us we had. Almost 2 months after ending the engagement and requesting a refund, he tells us we're only getting back $171.23 and that it would take him 30 days to send it because Facebook owed him the money.

He claimed the billing threshold was $250 and then $900. Ok, but who set the threshold? Why would you suddenly go from a threshold of $250 to $900? Why such an astronomical jump? It makes no sense whatsoever. And it's equally disingenous for him to scapegoat Facebook. If a threshold is set at $900 and the threshold is not reached, then no bill should be generated until the campaign reaches the threshold. So if you have not yet been billed, then what exactly are we waiting on Facebook to do? It just doesn't add up.

It seemed very implausible that a "successful" business owner would need to wait on a refund from Facebook (who does not generally give "refunds") to send a paltry $171.23 refund to a customer and need a whole month to do it. He provided no reporting, invoice or statement to verify this claim until pressed repeatedly to do so. And even this "reporting" was woefully short on detail.

Furthermore, when challenged about his poor performance, he was 'confused about our frustration' and became petulant, condescending and defensive while hypocritically virtue signaling about religion and professionalism, claiming to run a "faith-based" business and be a "good person" while simultaneously ripping us off and telling us he wasn't contractually obligated to refund the unused ad spend.

We're not sure if we were dealing with intentional fraud, callous negligence or gross incompetence, but one thing is for sure, we encourage you to look elsewhere when considering competent, results-driven marketing services because our engagement with Carbon Behavior resulted in a huge headache, a total waste of money and ultimately a waste of time.
