Cameron University Reviews

  • Apr 10, 2018

If you are are a student interested in taking courses at Cameron, there are a few things you should know. Please note this is based on my experience only and may not reflect the experience of other active students at Cameron University. I am a Business major ,and like all other Business majors at Cameron, I was excited when I enrolled and began classes. However as the semesters progressed, I began to notice that the professors didn't really seem to care if their students passed or failed their courses. For one thing most of the Buisness Professors speak broken English, so it makes it really tough for you to understand what they are saying. In fact the majority of class hour is trying to focus on what the professors are saying rather than what the curriculum is about.

By the time I figured out what the professor for my Microeconomics class was saying, he had already moved on to another subject. Every class session was the same. I walked in sat down, and struggled to understand what the professor was saying, and by the time I figured it out, the subject matter had changed. I spent the rest of the hour playing catch up, and quickly jotting down notes from five minutes ago. Homework for that class was on-line. So I had to use my chicken scratch writing notes that I scribbled down during class to try and understand what the hell the homework assignment was about!

I made several appointments to meet with the professor of this class to once again try and understand the curriculum. However the days I could meet with him, he was not available. Microeconomics wasn't the only class like this. There were several Buisness courses that I had to strain and squint my ears to try and understand what the professor was saying. Then there were the Accounting classes. In addition to having professors who can't properly speak English to save their life, we have a professor who seems hell bent on flunking enitre classes. In fact it's almost like he has a bet going on how many students he can flunk.

Usually the class average hovered around a 50. The reason wasn't because this professor spoke broken English. (This professor acually spoke standard English with a country hick accent). It was the fact that he does not allow more than ONE DAY to complete homework assignments. So if you're a student, and you have a part-time job, you'll need to notify your supervisor that you need off on days that Dr. Treadwell gives homework assignments.

Other issues I have with this professor are that he doesn't review for tests, he only gives a three point curve, He likes to talk about his wife and kids rather than the subject matter, when tests are returned he doesn't go over test questions instead he reads the scan-tron that was already handed back to each student. For example: Number one was A, number two was Beta, number three was Charlie, number four was Delta etc. Well DUH! We already have a copy of the scan-tron with the right answers marked, what's the point? Another issue is that he doesn't allow make-up homework even for students who enrolled late to his class.

One student had just enrolled, and he asked Professor Treadwell what the assignments were for the last week. Dr. Treadwell responded with I don't give make-up assignments, you need to read your syllabus". I mean this guy who just got into the class received a zero for enrolling in class at a late date! Other issues with this professor is that he doesn't respond to emails, and hardly ever makes appointments to see students even though he tells students "if you have any questions make an appointment to see me". That's if you can get in touch with someone who can make you that appointment.

Of course that seems to be an issue with just about every Business professor at Cameron University. There are students who do very well in these business classes. Students who are related to other professors, and other faculty members at Cameron for example seem to make straight A's. Now I'm not saying that some select students at Cameron receive preferential treatment because they are related to a professor, dear heavens no. Perhaps they have better study habits, and were taught how to understand broken English at an early age. Or perhaps they are able to finish 50 question homework assignments in one day with ease. Who Knows? All I know is that it was very difficult for the majority of the class ,and the professors of those departments didn't seem to care about the other students.

So again if you're an aspiring Business major planning on attending Cameron University, you should know that it's not a walk through the park to get that piece of paper. In fact if you fail a Business class at Cameron, financial aid will not pay for you to re-take that class. You have to come up with that money out of your own a*s or excuse me pocket. Never withdraw from a class at Cameron University because financial aid counts those classes as "hours attempted"..

In other words if you go over the hours attempted allowed for your degree plan, your financial aid will be cancelled. So NEVER drop a class with a W. Also at Cameron those W's stay on your transcript FOREVER! So if you're thinking about transferring to another university, be forewarned those W's will follow you to your new university ,and you will have to explain why you dropped a certain course or courses. The professor spoke broken English ,or the professor was extremely strict are not good excuses. If you're an aspiring Business Major, just know that you need to find out who the good professors are. Don't take classes with professors who speak broken English, or professors who like to flunk students who aren't related to faculty members. Thanks for reading and good luck.
