Byrom's Taxidermy Reviews

  • Dec 27, 2018

I was heart broken when I picked up my exotic mouflon sheep from Byrom's Taxidermy. This was a hunt that I will remember for the rest of my life. I stalked it for 8 hours on state land and harvested it with a bow. Good thing I have some great pictures because the sheep ended up in the trash, literally, after Byrom hacked it.

I will be honest, when Coy Byrom told me he could get it done in 2-3 months I was surprised and skeptical. He ensured me that he has 60 years of experience and lot's of experience raising and mounting mouflon sheep. I went with him because this fit my timeline.

When I picked it up 3 months later....well, I can provide pictures. It almost looks like his first one, and maybe he had never seen a sheep before. He said I rushed him and it was my fault that the quality was horrendous. Then he turned the insults on me and said that I was being a picky engineer and the only thing visibly wrong with it was that the eye's were crooked.

I see much more and pointed them out to him. Crooked eyes, ears, horns, cape (see the off-center white fur under the chin), and mouth. There is a bald spot on his chin, a visible staple under his ear, exposed string on the back of it's head, exposed plastic on the ear and to make matters even worse....the cape was not dry and the whole mount smelled exactly like a dead and rotting animal. My wife was worried that the head would be infected and bugs would start crawling out of it and I agreed with her.

Coy was incredibly defensive and unhelpful. After swearing at me, he said he would not fix anything but the eyes. He told me I was unreasonable and was asking for the impossible... to have a symmetrical face?! I paid $600 for this mount and I would have paid double to any taxidermist who could fix it and make it look like the beautiful animal I harvested. I contacted a number of taxidermists and they said that the sheep was unrepairable. All of them profusely apologized for my experience and were shocked and said that it was an embarrassment to taxidermists everywhere.

Coy is disrespectful, unapologetic and would not give me any money back even though I had to throw my prized animal into the trash. I am beyond disgusted even though this was a hunt of a lifetime.
