Birch Communications, Inc. Reviews

Birch Communications Collections. I have never had a personal account with them and have never used them (and never will). I have told Birch numerous times that my number is a personal phone and not associated with the business they are trying to collect from and not to contact me again. They continue to call.

I called from my personal cell phone from work once when Birch Communications disconnected our internet and telephone lines by accident to get back up. Now they think my personal number is part of the business. It is not! I have communicated to them that my personal phone number is not part of the Business they are calling about and to never contact me again regarding anything regarding that Business. I am an employee, not an owner, partner, or director.

Birch continues to contact me regarding the Business relationship and now say there is a collection due on the account. It has nothing to do with my personal phone, me, or my work so why do they continue to call me?

They have not changed the business phone numbers, so why aren't they calling the owner of the company? Birch is abusive, annoying, and underhanded in their dealings in debt collections. They need to stop calling me and call the owner of the Business. They are practicing unfair and deceptive collections and need to stop!

Birch scams their customers by sneaking in language in all their contracts that says if you don't cancel your contract within a very small window of time (usually 30 days) then it will auto-renew for another YEAR and if you end up cancelling within that period you have to pay termination fees. That unethical practice is called an "evergreen clause" and many states have already made it illegal. Everyone in customer service was very aware that they were scamming customers but just didn't care. I've read online that these "auto-renewing" contracts can only have termination fees if the carrier incurred some sort of risk by extending service, so I'm sure if I were to fight it in court that I'd win but then I have to go through that hassle.

Birch is a scam. Their prices are astronically high, and they target customers specifically in areas where there are almost no other providers. I so wish some attorney would start a class action and shut these deceptive unethical scammers down!! Apparently the FCC sued Birch last year (2016) for deceptive and abusive practices and they settled in December. So it's obvious what the company is. Why is my government not doing anything against these types of corporate predators???

BIRCH IS A SCAM!!!!!! SCAM!!!! SCAM!!!!! DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THEM!!!!!

On August 20, 2015, at 3:20 PM CST, I sent an email to cancel our service with Cbeyond/Birch as I was instructed to do by our Birch representative, Corey C. The contract was coming to the end of the full 3 year term and Corey supplied me with the email address to send it to and told me to send it right away. Corey told me that, because we closed our physical offices and no longer had their broadband, Birch could not serve us anyway with only voicemail, which is all we had for over a year.

After I filed the cancellation, I stopped receiving invoices from Birch for a month or two. Then, in February of 2016 I received a bill from Birch for $11,499.16 claiming I owed another 3 years on a contract that they had automatically renewed. So on February 16, 2016, I called Birch and spoke with Vicki at ext. 46007. She said Birch was claiming I sent the email canceling our service five (5) days too early so the contract "automatically renewed" but she said she was filing a request to cancel the bill that Birch claimed I owed. She said it was nothing more than a technicality and that someone within Birch should have advised me that the email was five days too early, though it was still within Birch’s discretion to accept the cancellation. Vicki told me it would take about 30 days to get the issue resolved. I told her that Corey C did not tell me to wait five days to send the email of cancelation but to send it right away. Further, when I sent the email, no one at Birch responded to my email to tell me that it was received five days too early. This being true, I can only assume that Birch was intentionally misleading me in order to make the contract automatically renew and make me owe them an incredible sum of money. In my opinion this is deceptive business practices. I have tried repeatedly to reach Vicki at ext. 46007 but those people answering the phones at Birch say that I am not allowed to speak directly with her. Those I have spoken with will not listen to me other than insisting I pay them for three more years!

I have a very strong feeling that this is happening to many other people

across the country and that Birch will only stop this deception if other consumers such as myself come forward and work together to stop these practices.

Wow, when I think of Birch Communications all I can say is:

• Deceptive Practices • Hidden Fees

• Poor Customer Service

• Lack Of Communication

• The Worst Company I've Ever Dealt With

As a Cbeyond customer, we were forced to suffer under the buyout by Birch. To begin, our business is a technology company that requires frequent use of the Internet. When Birch took over, the speed went from 21 Mbps to 3.6 Mbps. At 3.6 Mbps it became extremely difficult having multiple employees accessing the Internet because of the tremendous slowdown that occurred when they did so. Next, the customer no service could never tell me when our contract ended because we were originally a Cbeyond customer. It's funny how we receive the email below:

In early January, 2015, this company contacted my mother who suffers from dementia and is hard of hearing about her phone service. They told her that they were going to be handling her service for AT&T from now on. Needless to say, she said ok. Over the past year, we have had numerous issues with this company. Back in December, her phone was not working properly. We had to report it numerous times before they finally fixed 12 days later and we were told on two separate occasions that the problem was on their end. On March 5, 2016, I contacted them to cancel my mother's service as she had been admitted to the nursing home. I was initially told that they would cancel the service without any issues. However, within 15 minutes of me making this request, I received a phone call stating that since she was "under contract", there would be a cancellation fee of $500. I told their rep as far as I knew her contract had expired and was then advised that they automatically renewed every year. At this point in time, I requested a copy of this so-called contract and advised the rep that they would have a hard time collecting the cancellation fee as we had to turn all my mother's assets over at the time she was admitted to the nursing home. I also advised the rep that we would be contacting an attorney regarding their fraudulent practices. As of today, I have not received the copy of contract that I requested nor have they disconnected service to her phone.

I was contacting by a representative telling me that I could have the exact same service and services that I had with AT&A for a fraction of the cost. I switched my service and nothing was the same. Call waiting did not work, voicemail did not work. I spent endless hours on the phone which resulted in loss of business and nothing was ever rectified.

Called AT&T and had to wait almost a month to get service back. Then this company has the nerve to want me to pay a bill? Do not get sucked into this scam because it is a scam. This company used to be called CBeyond and probably needed to change their name because they couldn't get people to sign up with them because their reputation was horrible. Do not fall for it. If they call you just hang up the phone.

My company closed its doors in July. I cancelled my account in August. In December I received a collection call for $6,000.

The person on the phone was very rude when I asked why would I pay $6,000 for what should have been an $860 bill. (My service was $429 per month.) "She responded early termination fee."

I am not sure what they mean by "early" since i was with CBeyond for three years before Birch bought them.

I said that I was not prepared to pay $6,000 today or ever.

No effort was made to find out facts; no effort was made to resolve the issue. She rudely said that she was turning me over to outside collection agency since I was not prepared to pay the $6,000 of extortion.
