Ben Halifi and his so called fiance, Jennifer Mather, rented my best friend's beautiful home of 10 years at 2565 Alhambra Court in Camarillo California. She is a widow and mother of 2 kids. Ben and Jennifer signed a 3-year lease and the first 9 months were ok ... at the least. Then a leak occured in the garage ceiling leaking from the master shower (caused by them). Ben called saying it was a unbelievable, overexaggerated condition and it would cost thousands of dollars to repair. My friend sent out a reputable restoration company (which was referred by the insurance company) to begin the airing out and clean up. On the second day, Ben would not let them back in to repair the work. He claimed it was too much work for what needed to be done.
My friend then tried to comply with his wishes and after several contractors were asked to go and fix the problem, he called them and threatened to turn them in to the state and ran them out of the house. Ben claimed they were not licensed, which was very untrue!!! Ben had no right to turn away all the contractors. My friends are from out of state so they flew in again and checked out the situation. Once again they tried to set up and work around the tenant's busy schedule (what a joke) and the tenant insulted them once again.
Ben has a very, very unprofesional attorney, Shawn Golan, who threatens them constantly as well as Ben and Jennifer sending them threatening e-mails and texts claiming that they are harming these so called tenants. They are now falsely accusing my friend of the leak saying that it has caused them both to be sick and they are now trying to sue for $250,000.00 What a joke!!!! My friend's fiance has been a contractor for over 40 years and has never had a lawsuit against him. This situation has caused my friend and her fiance so much money and grief. Ben Halifi and Jennifer Mather are now NOT paying rent and trying to stay in the house for nothing AS WELL AS claiming a lawsuit. My friends are working hard to get them out of their home.
