I joined the banjo hangout three weeks ago they have violiated my freedom of speech when they locked my topic. My topic disscussion in the non banjo related section was called I hate walmart. I wrote this topic based on the fact that Walmart has put several local businesses out of business. It was written as an econimocal discussion and not polotical. I however did mention the fact that once the NAFTA free trade agreement was put into place this really affected the american farmer. Two other people besides myself mentioned only NAFTA and the moderator said was to political and it was a locked topic. So I decided to delete my account with them. You dont have to have an account with them to see what people posted.

So I clicked on active topics somebody put BHO EXPERT. So I clicked on it. The post said where did Travis B go. It was an open discussion of people making bad comments about me the moderator who calls there self texas banjo said I closed my account over politics. Most of the other comments were calling me names. As to their business practices their as someone else reported some of the users actually being employees of Saga Music. The RK banjo which stands for recording king is mentioned on almost every single banjo recommendation. They are trying to persuade people to buy a few other banjos from Saga music. You might say what a concidence. They also have a guitar dobro mandolin dicussion pages which only Saga Music 8nstruments are recommended.

Toxic Top Posters

Banjo Hangout seems to be the big boy on the block for Banjo discussion, but only too late did I search for reviews of the BHO web forum. By then I had posted one time, gotten flamed, and found out how things really work on BHO. It's not the moderators who control the site, but its top posters who act as discussion commissars. I ran afoul of one these BHO thought policemen who, rather than follow the Forum Rules of use and contact me in a PM, came at me hard straight out of the gate with a personal character assassination on the pubic thread.

When I contacted the moderator for some help with the situation, and pointed out how the TOU had been violated, I got stiff armed instead. It was then I realized that Toxic Top Posters really run the site and the moderators are afraid of them. If the moderator tries to censure these members, HE becomes the target of abuse by the top poster and his clique of site buddies. After several emails with the modulator, I actually felt bad for the guy. Obviously he had lost control of the site. If you do some web searching you will find others who have had the same experience.

BHO has a deep well of information and I will continue to use it for a research tool but the discussion forum is essentially no longer under the control of the site authority. If you choose to join, before you post educate yourself on who's who on the site, and if tip toeing around the forum, keeping your post's as bland and innocuous as possible, and treading lightly are OK with you you will be fine. Otherwise, expect to become a target of these toxic top posters who feel they are the real authority on the site, and don't expect any assistance, because ipso facto, it's the top posters who are in charge.
