Balsam Hill Reviews

I ordered a 36" led battery light Christmas Wreath from this company, and when it arrived it was 26" on a stretched out good day. They would not give me a full refund, and said I must pay $10 for return shipping as there policy states, " For a return fee to be waived, the item received should be damaged,/flawed,/defective. To keep this short, I can only say, look up the definition of flawed, and defective, then think twice about ordering anything from this company... Godspeed.

I purchased a rather pricey 9' artifical tree with lighting from this company about six years ago.

The lights are controlled by a remote control on which you can select White/Colored/All Lights. One of the function switches is bad, so I logged on to their website today to request information on where to buy a replacement. I was told that remote control no longer exists.

This company has pretty products but won't support them once you are out of warranty. Beware when considering one of these expensive artifical trees!!!

I decided to replace a Christmas tree that I had been using for more than 10 years about five years ago. I wanted the same light features; LED lights with both colored can clear lights that could be operated independently. I also wanted one where when one bulb goes out the other bulbs on that string stay lit.

After searching the web the only company that appeared to offer these features was Balsam Hill. Their trees were significantly more expensive than other trees but it was the only option for a tree with both colored and clear LED lights and where one dead bulb would not bring down a string of bulbs. When the tree arrived the lights on one of the three sections did not work.

I contacted the company and they promptly sent out a replacement tree. During the third year two entire sections of bulbs no longer worked. I contacted the company and they sent four strings of bulbs. The task of removing the dead bulb strings was extensive so I just put two of the new strings on the tree. This year, even more strings of bulbs are no longer operating.

I don't expect an artificial tree to last forever but for the amount of money these trees cost I would expect them to last for more than three or four years. The tree is beautiful and quite real looking but there are many companies that offer very real looking trees.

I have also found another company that offers trees with both colored and clear LEDs for about half the price of the Balsam Hill tree so I will purchase one of those trees. At half the price if it lasts two years it will be a better investment than a Balsam Hill tree.

I purchased a tree on a Columbus Day sale for 399.99 and the tree arrived in a timely manner. When I put the tree together November 24 th, a section of the tree didn’t light. I called immediately and was asked to send pictures of tree, and I shared with them that some wires were hanging from the lights. They asked me to take pics of this so I did. I was contacted and told notmto light tree bupecause it wasn’t grounded properly and can cause a fire. They said a replacement section would be processed. I was notified that the section would not be available until the following October, that they would be made in July. I called in July and they said to call back in October. In the meantime they sent me two strings of lights to put on section.

I did not receive replacement section by October so ai called and was told it was being processed “in the back- end” and I should have it by Mid- Oct

Nothing! I called back and they moved date to end of October. called again, moved to November, called again, moved to mid Novemebr, Called again and was told ” I assure you i just sent order to back and I should hear back in 48 hours.” Nothing....called and spoke to manager ( after waiting on hold for 46 minutes and 22 seconds. Finally got manager and was disconnected. Called back and was given a new manager whom I needed to go through entire story with for the umpteenth time. She said they don’t make tree anymore ( so basically all reps previously lied). She finally said that they would give me instore credit for tree and to call back when I decide on a tree thatbI want. Oh, and that if I pick a new tree there will be no warranty becuase the warranty on other tree expired. I picked a tree and was told the manager would process the tree and send me an email....I have heard nothing! So now, I will wait, again. I won’t bither calling becuas they all lie. Oh and I have all emails and a phone log of how often I have called, the dates and length of call. I also emailed the CEO, Thomas Harman, and have had no response from him either.

So the short of this long epistle is,,,this company has not an ounce of integrity. I am so disappointed!

We purchased a Balsam Hill 6.5' Balsam Fir clear lit tree with the automated connections in the fall of 2014. On Nov 26th of this year when I was setting it up for the holidays, I noticed that 3 strands of the attached lights would not operate. I tried a few things and then called customer support. We spent an hour with the included repair kit trying to make the lights work again to no avail. This uncovered to me the poor quality of the lights used to light their trees. The customer service rep finally said that she would issue a warranty claim and that I would need to donate my tree to a charity, send them the donation receipt and they would then send me a new tree just like it. She apologized for all the trouble that would put me too but said that was their process. I asked her how long it would take to get the new tree and she said that it would probably take 2 weeks from when they received the donation receipt. Given this timeline, she agreed that they could send me one after Christmas.I had to call 3 times to get the warranty claim number.

After Christmas I went to their online chat and was told that I would have to call for a warranty claim. Then I was told that the tree was no longer covered by warranty. They were looking at the wrong order in spite of all the assurances I had that they kept all the information about our calls in their records. They also initally told me that they weren't able to send emails but I have a string of about 15 of them now. I had the warranty claim and was getting the tree ready for donation when I received an email stating that they were sold out of my tree type and asked me to select another. I sent an email with that selection and was again told that they couldn't dicuss by email and I would need to call. So I called and told them the tree that I would accept as a replacement: it was a Noble Fir of the same height but prelit with LEDs. I requested the LED due to the problem I discovered with lights on their trees. This tree was on sale and on sale it was the same price as the tree I had purchased which I purchased at full price. They declined to give me that tree because it is a higher priced tree. The problem is that they didn't have any trees comparable to what I had. There were only 2 models available in that height and the other one was a spruce which is not what I like in a Christmas tree.

I have sent them the donation receipt and now I have nothing! I asked for a refund and they refused. They offered to let me know when they start getting trees in again which they believe will be in July for their July event. Wanda has said 3 times that she would call me back, but never has called me. I think 3 of the emails promise that I will be called within 24 hours with a resolution for me but I am never called. This is a horrible place to do business and I would recommend finding a better retailer to buy your tree from unless you don't mind stringing your own lights on you tree!

I bought a Christmas tree on sale for $850. It was delivered late and was defective. I was on the phone over an hour and emailed 9 photos of the defective tree, which they finally admitted at the end of the hour was defective. I requested a replacement tree be sent for our Christmas celebration on Friday. My husband is disabled and I can't lift the tree to take downstairs and outside for Fed Ex to send back. The tree weighs over 80 pounds and we cannot lift it down the stairs. We have to hire others to lift the boxes into the house and assemble the tree

So we are celebrating Christmas Friday with a defective $850 tree.
