AVAST Software Reviews

  • Dec 22, 2021

Bought Omni which was very difficult. Then they ended it (I had installed on five comps), said they've give a free year of next service, and then customer support failed to and gave up. Probably the worst CS, and probably because it's not based in the U.S. I no longer trust them. No one ranks them high so I guess I should have listened.

Warning to all users: Avast products installs malware known as "Avast Secure Browser". I will uninstall all Avast products promptly, and treat avast products as malware moving forward. In another thread, they say they stopped doing this, but this happened today, so they're obviously lying and completely untrustworthy

It is NOT part of the package I downloaded or installed, it was sideloaded without permission long after I installed avast, and has nothing to do with virus scanning. It's not like, they added a cloud scanning feature to avast or something, web browsing is a completely different kind of software, if I want to download a browser, I will do it willingly and install it myself, browsers forced on my desktop are malware.

Also, it may be buried somewhere in the fine print and I didn't notice; it's still unwanted malware. A Legal document is not the place to notify users of pending installations, that should be done by the user, and the user should load it if he/she wants it, putting it in your legal document instead of somewhere sane just shows Avast cares nothing for their users control of their computers, Avast will just push things on them without asking, because it's in their document, that's absolutely pitiful and disgusting of Avast and the company, and to prevent it from happening again, I have no choice but to wipe all avast products from my computers.

If someone punches you in the face, that doesn't make it a good thing, regardless of what reasoning the person who threw the punch has, and this is certainly a punch in the face, a violation of trust, and completely unacceptable to install unwanted malware on machines which need scanning virus removal, it's just contrary to common sense.

Certainly I have already wiped all Avast products from my machines, including the paid registered versions, and will seek a refund for those, as well as recommending the same to everyone I know, as I don't want to help them clean malware off their system, hopefully no one I know has been hit by this infection.

I paid for Avast's premium antivirus and total protection package. It stopped working on my computer. They tried to tell me my computer was the problem, which is bullshit, I've never had problems with any other system. They then took $80 out of my bank account for additional tech support, which I never agreed to (and they didn't even fix the problem!!) Avast is great, until you actually need them for something. Totally avoid this company.

I just got off the phone with guruaid (Avast subcontractor) and spoke to Kasib Korsham and he said that my computer has never had any protection from Avast and that He needed $91 In order to fix my computer that Avast failed to protect. He said that I have never had any security protection from Avast and that is their man! Please promptly refund with a check for the last 2 years all the money I have paid for no reason and damages to my computer and any theft that may have occurred because of the failure of your company's service.

Avast emailed me to say they were going to automatically renew a product I was not aware I had, PC Cleanup. I replied and told them not to. Since I had no memory of ever purchasing this product I had no idea where the money would come from and since I didn't even know I had it I surely didn't need it. They went ahead and renewed it anyway against my wishes. They used my PayPal account which debited my checking account. There was not enough money in the checking account to cover the cost of this renewal that I had instructed them not to do so it incurred an overdraft charge of $32.00. After many emails and phone calls I managed to get the renewal refunded but they will not refund the $32.00 overdraft that they caused. The bank won't reverse it because it was not their mistake. Avast caused it by not doing what I told them to do...NOT renew the PC Cleanup! They owe me that $32.00 Can anyone tell me of any other site or action I can take to publicize this? I want this spread near and far so the world can know of their dishonest business practices.

I first got Avast in March of 2013 for 2 years... In that time my computer was compromised by someone with the word"conduit" and it locked my machine. I called Avast and I ended up talking to some broken english guy, who I think was from Digital River in Costa Rico. I had to pay +/-$179.00 to get my computer to work again. I decided if Avast could not protect me from that, then I should find a better anti virus software company. I called Avast and cancelled when they tried to renew my subscription. Again broken english person, but I got my point across to cancel mu subscription. They continued to keep taking money out each year. I called this July when I got the email and told them again that I do not want their services, but they took the money any way. This is a really shady company and I don't want anything to do with these scum. This broken english excuse has worn out its course...

I've used Avast Internet Security for the protection of my computers for yrs. Always thought they were a good antivirus program, always heard good things about their protection, until now, I know better.

They have proven they are certainly at the top of ripoffs & scams on my list! And yes, I believe my computer has suffered because of the lack of security they have provided. My computer has been infected with viruses/trojans & etc.

I received an email from them telling me it was getting close for renewal for another yr. on May 15, 2017, the 1st paragraph to the email-my subscription was to expire June 5, 2017, they will be drawing the amt.

$79.99 from my bank acct. a few days before since I'd chose to be on automatic renewal. So I decided there was no way I would allow them to do that, I was not going to pay them $80 for internet protection for 1yr. There were others out there for far less that would probably be better protection than them, so I was going to cancel in time & remove avast before the 1st of June & change to a different one.

I was checking my bank acct. for my balance & pay a few of my bills when I saw Avast had taken out the $79.99 on May 26, 2017. They did it early, did not do as they said they were going to a few days before June 5. That was a week before, not a few days. They had access to my banking acct. I felt I needed to go ahead & remove Avast then call Avast, tell them what they did & I was not happy with them! They kept switching me to different people, til finally they issued me a ticket #, they said they would be getting back to me, which they didn't.

A few days later I went back to my bank acct. to see if the refund had been put back in, & low & behold Avast had taken another charge of $83.19 out of my acct. 6/2/2017. I was boiling mad!!! Couldn't believe it! I called them again & again & again, telling them I removed Avast from my computers & demanded a refund of both charges! I sent emails on top of emails, assigned different ticket#'s everytime. I told them I would never ever trust them again.

What was left for me to do? How was I going to force them to refund the charges they took from my bank acct.? I even resorted to go to my bank personally to see if they could help me. The bank manager pulled up my acct., saw the charges, advised me to change my bank acct. to keep them from doing anymore withdrawals. She called Avast thinking maybe it would alert the right person to get this resolved, get my refunds, the man hung up on her.

All I can do is ask why me??? The total of both charges=$163.18. That may not mean much to some people, but to others like me, just barely surviving, it's everything. And yes, I cut my credit card to pieces, got issued a new one.

On 12/8/15 I purchased an annual subscription for the antivirus program via Google Play. Details as follows: Order number: GPA.1372-7025-4288-84125 Order date: Dec 8, 2015 12:06:17 PM CST Item Price Yearly V4 (Mobile Security & Antivirus) $14.99/year Yearly Subscription - Auto Renews on Dec 8, 2016 Tax: $0.00 Total: $14.99/year Payment method: Visa-5649 By subscribing you authorize us to charge you the subscription cost (currently $14.99/year) automatically, charged yearly to the payment method provided. You can cancel at any time (learn more). Questions? Contact AVAST Software s.r.o.. On 1/28/16 at 7:31 AM Google sent me the following email: Your Mobile Security & Antivirus subscription from AVAST Software s.r.o. on Google Play has been canceled. No refunds will be issued (Refund Policy). Your subscription will remain active through Dec 8, 2016. Order number: GPA.1372-7025-4288-84125 Order date: Dec 8, 2015 10:06:18 AM PST At 8:34 AM Avast sent an email informing the same. The new product lacked a firewall, which was vital to my decision to purchase. They claim to offer a free VPN, but this is of no use as I already subscribe with a more reputable company. I'm suspicious that the personal information they obtained from my subscription is now being sold to third parties for their own profit, in addition to all the subscriber fees they refuse to refund.

My Avast Security Zone was not loading properly. When called they convinced me to purchase a year of total support and they supposedly cleaned up my hard drive. The next day it still did not work. I have tried to get a refund and only got a run around. They kept saying over the phone repeatedly that I used the service and can't get a refund.

I was advised to us AVAST as an anti-virus program for my personal computer. As a senior I use my computer mostly for keeping in contact with my friends, and surfing the net. AVAST has three programs to choose from. They are FREE, 30-day FREE Trial, and Full Version. I signed up for the 'Free' version, and it would automatically transfer me over to the 'Trial' version. I finally had a professional computer technician do it for me. He told me not to worry, for this time it was locked on 'Free'. However, it turned out that even he came up with the same results.... A 30-Day Free Trial. I figured when the trial was over, I would either try downloading the 'Free' version again, or go to another program.

Then when going through my Visa statement I found that on July 13th, 2015, DRI*AVAST had billed me $49.99, and on July 14th, 2015 they were paid. WHAT???!!!! I never requested the full version, I never wanted the full version or even the 'Free Trial of 30-day' version, only the 'FREE' version. And how and when did they even get my charge card number was unbeknownst to me. Also they never sent me a statement telling me of the charge, nor did they bother sending me an email instructing me on how to activate their charged service!!!

Many times I've ordered products over the internet, and with each order I've received a statement, a thank you, and information on how to use the product or service. But with DRI*AVAST I only received more prompting to purchase their product.

I'm not the first or only person they have did this to, and the internet is loaded with many complaints for the same thing. This company may well be a good Anti-Virus Program, but it should also be better known as an Anti-Honest Program Company who are ready to take advantage of unsuspecting customers.

We all need a good anti-virus and anti-malware program, but we also need honesty in our dealings with them.
