Attorneys On Demand - Stay Away

Attorneys On Demand hires local attorneys to cover debt collection hearings. Eleven years ago I handled ONE case for Attorneys On Demand ("AOD") for a whopping $75 flat rate (included prep, 1 hr travel time and the hearing itself). I only agreed to the hearing because I was an associate and a partner asked me to. I returned from the hearing, spoke with the partner and advised him that it was a complete waste of his resources. He agreed and I called Attorneys On Demand to request that they take me off of their calling list. Still, 11 years later, I get calls/texts/e-mails every couple months. I demand that they take me off of the list every time they contact me. If they get in touch with my assistant, she requests that they take me off of the calling list. The same individual who I've requested to remove me from the list has the gall to continue to repeatedly call or text me. Perhaps the responsive contact encourages them. Unless you are looking for a long distance texting relationship with someone who just won't allow you to break-up with them, I highly advise against working with AOD.

Attorneys on Demand are Crooks

There is no other word for a company that hires you to attend a hearing at a fee they set and then try to tell you months later when they finally pay that some of the hearings should have been covered for free. Of I never agreed to cover any hearing for free. They pay minimal amounts in the first place, which is fine if they have a volume and pay what they agree. However it is not worth the effort to audit their erroneous records to figure out why they have not sent the proper amount, and then spend forever on the phone listening to stupid excuses about why the offer they sent cannot be believed. Next stop small claims court.

Attorneys On Demand contracts with local attorneys to cover hearings for debt collection attorneys who don't want to or can't attend debtor-suit hearings themselves because of their geograpical remoteness or some other reason. Attorneys On Demand supposedly compensates the local attorneys that they contract with to cover these debtor-suit hearings on a per hearing basis. They take months to send out checks (if they ever do), and, in my case, have never sent out a check. When I telephone them, they keep repeating the same story, "The check is in the mail." For covering a hearing that I did for them in August of 2015, the check has never "been in the mail." If you are an attorney, and do not like the idea of working for free, after being told you would be paid for your professional services, "demand" when or if Attorneys On Demand contacts you, that they do not contact you again. Feel free to pass this report along to any and all of your attorney colleagues. Only by spreading the word as widely as possible, will we be able to isolate this bad actor con artist company. Do not set yourself up to be taken advantage of. If the check ever does show up "in the mail," I will be happy to amend this report.

As a solo, semi-retired attorney in Northern California, I occasionally use one of several services which will find an attorney to cover an appearance for me in SoCal. Generally, my experience with such services has been quite favorable, with no surprises.

Unfortunately, I called AOD, thinking it was one of the other, similarly named services I have used. Big mistake.

From intake, to assignment of an attorney, to communicating the specific requirements of the court appearance, to reporting on the appearance, to explaining or disclosing the basis of their charges, these guys fail to do business in a business-like fashion from A to Z.

The only reason I have paid their exorbitant surprise additional billing is because I do not want to stiff the attorney who handled the appearance. She handled things as a professional, while AOD failed to do so in every regard.

My numerous emails to them have been ignored. Even when someone called to find out about delays in payment, and promised to look at my emails, they were still ignored.

And while they were perfectly happy to accept a credit card for the initial intake fee, they wanted an additional charge to pay the exorbitant surprise later bill.

This is a real bush-league outfit, and I would discourage any other attorney from doing business with them.

Thank you for posting

Thank you for taking the time to post this and saving me the pain you and others have gone through. I wasn't sure if the star system was referring to the AOD or your review of AOD. I gave the 1 star because it is my view of AOD after reading your 5 star review.
