Ashford University Reviews

I was assured financial aid and loans would cover everything. They took every time and still want many thousands more for my degree. Scam! Additionally, the "advisors" refuse to advise. Literally the only way they helped was sending forms. Stay away

When I first started everything was fine until I checked my financial aid award letter. In the letter it shows that I would be charged for room and board. When I contacted them they kept telling me don't worry about it, that's just how they have to do their paperwork. So I mind you I had a little money left over for disbursement which I didn't receive until 2 months after starting my classes. So I checked my financial aid again and it still showed room and board. I live in the state of Alabama why am I getting charged for room and board. So I didn't pass one of my classes and they write me and tell me I won't receive another disbursement check until February what does me not passing a class have to do with me having to wait 4 months before I recieve a disbursement check. The only way you can withdraw from any class is by sending a fax, which my wife just finished her degree with another college and she could drop and add classes right from her portal. This seems a little out right fishy to me. I can't take what ever class I want they place me in whatever class they want me to be in. And I mind you I made a 65 in the class they told me I failed how is that not a passing grade. My wife made two 65 grades at her school and she passed those classes. This is down right wrong and stressful and a straight rip off.

Ashford University pushed me to enroll back in class saying that if I didn't return I would owe over 2,000 dollars once I returned they dropped me from the class and left me with a balance of 3,400 dollars. I don't understand why is my balance so high when I took out a loan to pay for school. I am not working at the time and do not have the money to pay it back and they have a hold on my unofficial transcripts can someone help me to get information on how to sue them or any kind of legal help?

Educate yourself before you start school.

I have attended Ashford University since Nov 2013. I am a soldier and mainly utilize MTA and Pell Grants to fund my classes. I currently have completed 93 SH without any incident in financial aid. I have found that being proactive in your education is key to your success. My advice to most of you is to know your finances, forecast the costs, and don't take classes when you can't afford them. Take a break, this means talking to your advisor and telling them your ability to take classes. Ashford provides the flexibility to adult learners to take courses at a pace that fits their lifestyle. I have noticed that Ashford will schedule classes to keep the Pell Grant applied to your account to be used for classes. Overall I have been happy with my education journey.

I wish i would have never attended. I took out students loans and they basically took all of my money. I was told from my advisor i was getting a grand total of 1700 back out of $4000 plus in loans and $2000 in pell grant. in the end this school stole all my money besides $200. This is the far most worst decision i have ever made. I began school back in Sept. Finally got awarded on Dec 9th and Now im stuck having to pay for classes i never ever took or planned to take. I am going to pursue legal actions with this school. Thank god i kept all documents to and from my advisiors and instructors. This school is an complete scam... I can go Troy State University Online for Half the cost of this school. They never process any paper work on time. Have you resubmitting docs that have already been sent. The staff is very unprofessional. Only reason i chose this school in the first place is because the enrollment advisor did his job and sold it to me. For the first month of school he was calling and emailing like everyday to ensure "i was ok" yeah right. He was basically trying to make sure that i didnt change my mind about attending while in the little "3 WEEK INTRO FREE TRAIL" period. This school is at the bottom of all schools and thier graduration rate is joke. I had to withdraw and go to a real school.

People please dont waste your time, effort, or money. I have plenty of friends that attend S****** University and love it...And you will see your money. As students we take out loans to help us while we attend school not for you guys to take what you want without letting us know or our consent. thats stealing and we have to pay that money back not the school. I just want people to be aware of what they are getting into and i also posted a google review. peoplePLEASE BEWARE!!!!My best friend started a week before i did and recieved the exact amount as i did after her ledger statement had $2000 she only got back A little over $200.

Any Student who has been wronged by Ashford University please contact me as I am preparing to file a CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT against Ashford University for all the same reasons many have stated. I completed all my courses and one week prior to my being ready to graduate I was told that I would not be allowed to GRADUATE until I paid a balance of $1435.67 which I wasn't aware of any balance on my account and often looked at my account and it reflected that my FA took care of all of it. In my investigation I have found many students with the same complaints as I. I will also file a grievance with their Accredition group and the U.S. Board of Education.

I paid $450 of this to Williams and Fudge their so called collectopm group and Williams and Fudge kept 75% of it and only reported $187.50 to Ashford. They are in it with Ashford to rip off students.

From my experience with Ashfors University has not been a good one . It started by a pushy Educational Adviser, hope did not want to listen to me. By the second week of the first class or course I want to withdrawal and drop the course and she refused to do so. Financial Aid has been a headache from the strat from needing 2014 tax transcripts to telling me that my FAFSA was not right, this is the words from Financial Aid Adminstrators Office at Ashford University. I called and notified FAFSA what was stated to my about my FAFSA for the next academic year. They clarified the form was filled out right and correct without any errors on the Federal Form. This morning Ashford decides that they have a right to correct my FAFSA for 2015-2016 and I got a adviser that claims his was Student Account Adviser which I know to be a lie. I got threatened by him and the Financial aid Office that they will keep the Government Educational Funds and reuse to release any stipend refund that is owed to me . This is a total scam college and if I would have known they are for profit college I would never enrolled nor applied to Ashford University.

I just want to write about this scam, fraud, and don't care about their student at this University. I was taking two classes at one time and I was getting A in the progress ( above 90% of course & in the last week of class) and without warning one of the class was dropped by an advisor ( around April 2013). I was very upset and tried to contact the advisor to get it resolved and was told I owe money for the class and did not paid. This a made up story because I have GI bill and my classes are being paid without issues. My class was dropped in the final week that I was doing assignments and getting above 90% grade. I was told to write an apology letter for misbehavior. There don't seem to be fair and any justice here at this University. Advisor can do anything they want and don't have to worry about their consequences for mistreating students. I don't even know why they ask me to pay for class tuition after a while even though I finished the class a few months ago and all balances was 0 ( before I stopped taking classes). I am about 30 credits to finish my degree but after seeing other students complain about the University I probably will transfer to different University. It's not like I didn't experience the unfairness treatment from this University.

I attended Ashford University from September 2010 through December 2013. I graduated with my Associate's degree in Organizational Management. Do I have any documentation showing that I graduated?? NO!

When I began school at Ashford, I started out doing my Bachelor's degree. I did end up dropping to an Associate's when life started to get a little rough and school was just too much for me and my family at the time. I called the school, worked everything out, straightened out my financial aid (or so I thought) and I moved forward with finishing up the dgree.

About 2 weeks after I dropped to the Associate's degree, the financial lady calls and tells me that they made a mistake doing my financial aid package and now I didn't receive enough funds to cover the cost of my classes. My choices were, A. Pay the amount now (I believe it was like $5000.00) or the school could "loan" me the money to cover the classes and I could make monthly payments to pay them back.

Never once was I told I wouldn't receive my degree until this amount was paid in full.

I made my monthly payments and fell on a hard few months where my marriage was struggling. I missed two payments and BAM my account is in collections and now they want the FULL amount to release my degree. Well if I am already having a hard time, what makes them think I have $3000 laying around.

Here I am almost 2 years after I graduated from this slimy school, and I still have no degree, not even transcripts saying I have a degree. But I sure am having to pay that $200/mo payment to the government for letting me "borrow" that money to go to school.

So, even if I pay off the $3000 to the credit collector, how do I know if I will EVER see my degree?? How is this even legal?

Should I seek an attorney?
