Affordable Transmissions Reviews

Buyer beware!! These guys think that by quoting you a range of prices over the phone that this meets the requirements of NC law that requires a written, signed estimate for any automotive repair over $350 before continuing with work. I had my van towed there and asked what the cost would be. I was quoted $1200 - $3500 over the phone. I was assured that I would receive a call once the transmission was out and we could nail down the price. After two days of no calls, I made the calls to verify that they has gotten the transmission out.

First lie, the guys that rebuilds the transmission has quit and walked out and they are scrambling to get work done. Second lie, they will have the transmission out late in the day and that they will have it torn down first thing in the morning so I know where I stand price wise. After receiving zero phone calls, I arranged for a ride to visit the shop and found them rebuilding the transmission. No firm estimate, no signed agreement. When asked what the cost was, I had to pry the answer out and only after the fourth request did I get an answer. $2800. I told him to stop at that point and I would get back with them within 30 minutes. I then made arrangements for a rebuilt transmission to be delivered to the shop frim A Transmission in Bay City MI. I explained that it would be there by Monday the following week, five day delivery.

I started getting calls from the shop now, wanting to make a deal. They came down to $2500 and that the guy rebuilding the transmission, had actually not quit but had just gone home sick, magically had a transmission exactly like mine already done and now they could have it done by the end of the day. After much bickering because he claimed to have $800 dollars in costs to get the transmission out and the parts, which I didn't approve, and that he could charge me the entire $3500 he quoted over the phone by law in NC. I finally relented after the badgering I took on the phone. When I arrived to pick up my van they wanted me to sign a pre-dated repair ticket that gave them permission to perform the work. When I balked and wanted to change the date to the actual date to, I wasn't allowed to take my van, even though they had been paid, until I signed the repair order. I will be going to the NC dept. of Consumer Affairs to seek relief from this business.
