My Roku Box wasn't working, so I contacted the Roku web support web site listed in the Roku manual.

I went to the chat section to describe my problem, and they asked me for my phone number, and told me that a Roku Technician would phone me and help me with my problem.

They called me right away, and a man with an Indian accent identified himself as a Certified Roku Technician. I told him my problem, and he said it was because someone had hacked my network, and he would need control of my computer's network to remove the hacker's malware.

He gained control of my computer for 30 minutes, and told me the problem was fixed. I tried my Roku Box, and it was still not working.

They charged me $500 to complete the work, and it did not fix my Roku Box.

I reported it to Roku, and they said that they never contact anyone by phone, and would never charge me to fix my Roku Box. I realized I had been hacked by TECHGLANCE INC. and reported it to my credit card company, but they said they couldn't stop payment on it, because I had signed for it with an online Signature Company (True Signature?) and the payment had gone through and couldn't be reimbursed.

They then advised me to look for suspisicious software recently installed on my computer, and delete it. I found the phony software under the name Mozilla Firefox, and deleted it. I changed my web browser, and credit card number, and never heard from them again. Roku told me there was nothing they could do about it, and they were very sorry.

I filed a report with the Federal Trade Commission, and they gave me a case number, and I never heard back from them. That was seven months ago.
