Urgent Courier, Inc Reviews

  • Feb 20, 2017

This is a complaint against Urgent Courier, Inc at 74 Stone Hill Road, Oswego, IL. This complaint is against the firm and against both Alfred J. Evans, the owner/CEO, and Trisha Cook, the president. Over the last few months this courier business has been consistently printing bad checks to independent contract workers – couriers and/or dispatchers. Basically, they have stolen my services. I did the work and they have not paid.

Currently, Urgent Courier owes me multiple weeks of pay based on services performed during that time period. Urgent Courier has failed to pay me for work performed from early January 2017 through 2/17/2017. The amount owed to me at this time is approximately $2400. I have the returned bank checks as evidence, as well as the last 3 weeks of text orders of work performed. I also have text messages of communications with the primary dispatcher at Urgent Courier. Urgent Courier should have all of the work orders in their system as well, for every driver.

Other drivers are experiencing the same issues with this company. Experienced drivers with the company are refusing to work - they are all independent contractors -- but I believe the firm is still trying to contract new drivers that dont know any better. Beware!!

This complaint will be filed officially with the Oswego, il Police Department and with county court offices.

This is a SCAM. They do not pay their people and their checks will bounce. There is no one there that will answer your calls and the owner is never to be found. This place is a RIP OFF do not go there unless you want to work for free and have your bank close your account for fraudulant activity because you are deposting their checks that will bounce. The BBB has also been notified of this company.

This is the worst company I have ever worked for. They gave me 4 bad checks, although they did reimburse me for 3 of the checks. In addition, to the returned checks, I was penalized with overdraft and returned check fees and negative impacts on my credit score, and it just creates unneeded stress. I recently received the 4th bad check. This is ridiculous. The H.R./Payroll Manager and owner are difficult to get ahold of. I leave voicemails, text messages and I get no response.

What they don't tell you: 1.) All couriers must purchase work clothing ($15), biohazard duffle bag ($15), spill kit($15), weekly insurance fee ($20), fuel ($100 per week/avg.), tolls (at least 0.75 cents per toll), general repairs and maintenance, etc. Oh and by the way, if your car breaks down on the job, dont expect Urgent to help you with the towing expenses. On many occassions, my paycheck arrived late; they always blamed the mailman for the late paychecks. All the time and money spent sitting in traffic, dealing with construction, stoplights, down time, deadhead, etc. What a pain in the butt.

They told me that if I worked 5 days a week, at 8 hour shifts, I would make nothing less than 700 bucks. No far trips, and no if there was a far trip, I would come back with an order. My first day, I drove over 400 miles. From chicago to Indiana to hinsdale. All over Illinois. I ended up getting paid 81 dollars, minus 20 for unknown reasons. I ended up with 61 at the end of the week. It's not worth it after all the gas, tolls, oils changes and everything.nondont recommend it

I went to the orientation and paid the $40.00 for uniform and equipment you need to courier blood samples. They said earnings would be between $800.00 and $1200.00 week full time. I was told you will never given an assignment far away from home with nothing coming back. Well, first day on my last assignment I was sent to Merriville, IN...70 miles from home with nothing coming back. I called in and there response was it happens.

I was told that you could find out from dispatch how much you earn per day. I asked and was given the run around that no one could tell me until the checks were issued in 2 weeks. My first day cost me $70.00 out of pocked for gas and tolls. I called several times wanting to know what I earned driving 300 miles and 9 hours. Still, I would have to wait until the checks are issued in 2 weeks.

I waited the 2 weeks for my check to be issued. I went and picked up my check and dropped off the equipment that was issued to me at orientation and was shocked that it was for a niggardly amount of $78.40. The took the $40.00 deduction out again which I was told was what the $40.00 I paid at orientation was for. So for my 9 hours of driving for Urgent Couriers I netted $8.40.

I would like to know how one can earn between $800.00 and $1200.00 per week working full time if in 9 hours I earned less that $1.00 per hour.
