Two Men and A Truck Reviews

  • Jan 6, 2019

I selected Two Men and a Truck because the woman I purchased my new home from used the company to move out of the home and had a good experience. My experience interacting with the administrative office was fantastic, and the woman (Kay Wright) who helped coordinate my service seemed to be on the ball. We discussed rates and went through listing every piece of furniture in my home as well as the logistics. The estimate was seemingly customized, but you'll see below how this disaster unfolded.

When only two gentlemen arrived to my house, I was concerned. When they started to load very slowly and inefficiently, I was panicked. They struggled with everything. About an hour in, I was told they would have to make two trips. Fine, I said and authorized additional charges.

It took them about 4 hours to pack the truck and by the time they arrived to my new home, they were out of gas.

I was told by one of them that it was his last day and he hated that the company routinely set him up to fail. Meaning, they didn't send enough people and he was always struggling with his assignments. He told me that only the expensive jobs get the biggest and strongest team, etc. At this point, I was forced to authorize even more time before they'd start unloading the truck!

These two amateurs attempted to begin bringing pieces upstairs. First piece - took a huge chunk out of my wood banister. Second piece - a custom Bellini crib - scratched across the entire front and on the wall.

Third piece - Restoration Hardware king bed - they kept dropping the whole way up and then put it together incorrectly! They were so tired, they were barely walking back to the truck as they attempted to catch their breath. At this point we called headquarters and I made a complaint to General Manager John Schmidt that they were under gunned and wouldn't be able to finish the job.. I got the company line regarding an estimate being just an estimate, etc. In other words, we send whomever we want and you deal with their inefficiency and inability to do the job. And pay for it!

Second phone call to John and the two movers are on the phone too, begging for help. He tells me help is now on the way and to hang in there. Three additional movers show up. They begin by trying to bring a desk up the stairs to the office. Literally drop it twice, scratch the wall, and the thing is broken in three pieces before they leave it in the garage and take off. I overheard them saying that they didn't want $25 coming out of their payroll checks every week for the next few months. Clearly, the knew they were setup for failure.

At this point, our new home has been damaged, most of our stuff is on the truck, and the two original movers to us are pissed and sitting in the truck to take yet another break. On the phone desperately with John Schmidt again, I am told that unless I want to incur additional damage that the best thing is to leave all of our stuff in the garage. This, after they clearly had the capability to move more furniture of bigger sizes just the previous week! I am literally emailing John with photos of the damage in real time as I discover it at this point and he is reassuring me they'll have it repaired for me and not to worry. Completely terrifying to be in this position. After another 2 hours of these guys trudging through it, all of our stuff is in the garage and they leave. We had to hire additional movers weeks later to finish the job.

The job was not completed and my furniture and home was damaged. After calling yet again regarding the damage I was given the phone number of their repair person and told to call. He came out and did the best job he could to repair the damage about 3 weeks later. Mediocre work, at best. Unfortunately, he was unable to repair the desk and it went in the trash. When I called John Schmidt to find out how I would be reimbursed for the broken desk, per his previous statement, he told me the release I signed meant that I would be getting nothing. So, he lied. Even though he team clearly broke it, and it could have been avoided. When I told him I would seek alternate remedies, he told me even if I sued him I would be get pennies on the dollar of the original value and he welcomed my doing so. Cruel and inconsiderate response from such a large company. No true customer service or even empathy for a customer in my shoes. This is a situation where a regional manager on a power trip let company "policy" get in the way of doing the right thing for a consumer. Luckily, consumers also have other ways of spreading the word and informing others when NOT to use a company. Avoid Two Men and a Truck at all costs!

  • Dec 2, 2018

I very rarely ever do this, but I’m writing this review to tell everyone to avoid Two Men & A Truck of Beaverton, Oregon at all costs. If you’re looking to hire a local moving company, I would strongly advise that you hire someone else. The management of this franchise is dishonest and unresponsive to customer concerns. They do not listen, they do not return phone calls or answer e-mails.

In May of 2018, I hired Two Men & A Truck to move my wife and I out of our apartment in Clackamas to our new home in Happy Valley. I booked the move nearly a month in advance of the closing date on our new home--while I was booking the move and going through all of the usual questions/preparations with their new receptionist, I warned the receptionist that the driveway to our new home was narrow and did not leave much room for error, and that their crew would need to take extra care in getting their truck safely into the driveway of our new home. The receptionist indicated that she would make a note of my concerns.

When the day of the move arrived, things initially went well, and the move was proceeding on schedule. Everything was moved out of our apartment and we met the movers at our new home to start moving in. However, before we left our apartment, I warned the movers, again, that the driveway to our new home was tricky and that they needed to be careful. When the movers arrived at our new home, they were not careful, and proceeded to execute what amounted to a 12- point turn with their massive truck, driving all over my driveway. I would have been willing to ignore this, except that as they were turning their truck and trying to align it so that the back of the truck could face our garage, they drove off the driveway at least twice, onto my lawn. I knew I should have said something then, but I was distracted because there was so much going on.

Beyond this, everything seemed to be going well and we were moved into our home in about two hours. However, two days later, I discovered that in driving their truck off my driveway they had completely crushed a sprinkler valve and flooded part of my lawn. They had also managed to crack part of my driveway. All told, this cost me nearly $1100.00 to fix. What’s worse is the fiasco that came afterward. I discovered the damage on a Thursday, and proceeded to make at least five phone calls and send several e-mails trying to get somebody from the company to come out, look at the damage, and discuss possible compensation.

I couldn’t even get anybody on the phone until the following Tuesday, and in the interim, one of the managers at the company, Eric Tremble, and another manager at the company, came to our home to inspect the damage. The problem here is that we didn’t get a phone call or an e-mail that they were going to come, and they did absolutely nothing to make their presence known when they did arrive, even though my wife and I were both home. They came onto our property without advance notice and without our permission, essentially trespassing. The other problem is that since it had taken them almost a week and several phone calls to finally come and look at the damage after it occurred, by the time Eric and this other employee finally showed up to do their “investigation” all of the damage had been repaired and cleaned up. At this point, Eric Tremble expected me to trust his assessment of the damage, told me that it couldn’t have been his employees and denied me compensation.

I filed the paperwork to take the matter to small claims court in May of 2018, and after an unsuccessful mediation in September of 2018, finally got the matter in front of a judge in October of 2018. The judge ruled in my favor and found Two Men & A Truck liable for half of the damages. It is now December 1st, I have yet to receive my payment, and am now in the process of turning the matter over to a collection agency. So, if you do decide to hire Two Men & A Truck, be aware that they do have a civil judgement against them in Clackamas County, and be aware what you might be getting into when you hire them.

I’ve moved several times in my adult life, and I’ve hired several moving companies, both local and long-distance. Moving is stressful, and things inevitably got broken or lost. My primary grievance at this point lies with the laziness, dishonesty, and general lack of professionalism on the part of this company’s management. If Two Men & A Truck had made a competent and good-faith effort to assess the damage and deal with these issues in a timely fashion once it was brought to their attention that the damage had occurred, I probably would have let the entire thing go and not even bothered to take them to court, and if they had simply paid me the damages that they were ordered to pay by Clackamas County, I probably wouldn’t have even felt compelled to write this review. So, like I said earlier, if you’re looking to hire a moving company, look elsewhere, these guys are a joke.

The move went well, but upon completion my dryer was not working. After two emails to the gentleman that handles the claims side, I finally got a response asking for the same form to be filled out again, and then the 3-5 window to get the fix will start over.

Tonight I just got an email back from Patrick stating they are denying my claim because the movers did not physically damage my dryer and I signed a waiver. Be aware when hiring them that they apparently make you sign paperwork that let's them damage your items with no liability.

The customer service was indifferent and came across as caring nothing about the situation whatsoever. It is not my fault they broke my dryer, but I have to pay to fix it.

I went online on 4/29/18 to start a quote for a move for a 2680 sq ft home. After filling out the 1st page it went to the contact info so full inventory not listed. I called on 4/30 & said that it didn't let me finish giving inventory. I told her I had 2 bedrooms, freezer, fridge, washer dryer, bedroom and living room & unsure how many boxes. She asked me if I wanted to do inventory or time. I had moved from same size home a few yrs ago & it took 4-5 hours and only cost me around $500. I used same company then. I told her this and that I actually had gotten rid of some of my furniture. She quoted me $480-$720 for 3-5 hrs.

On 5/17,movers arrived at 3:30pm, the driver, Micah, said it would take 3-4 hrs to load. He said that the sheet he had said I only had a few items. This was because even though I had called & said the inventory sheet wasn't completely filled out, they still went by it. I called them & was transferred to Josh, the manager. He said they would work to get it done faster but did not send another person .

In the meantime, the movers nicked a small hole in the wall in one hallway & I pointed it out to Micah. He brought his other mover to it & yelled at him & told him to be careful. I wasn't asked initially to fill out anything at that time. They didn't finish loading until 8p! I called Josh & attitude had changed. Claimed he listened to tape & it was a stalemate but wouldn't let me hear it. Stated I had insisted on a 4 hr job. (how is it I told them it was a 2680 sq ft house and what all I had yet they aren't smart enough to send enough people?)

Stated would give a military discount, take off trip charge and $80 for damage waiver. The conversation became heated as I knew this was their fault. I mentioned the damage & he said (with a tone as if I was lying)that Micah didn't mention it. I confronted Micah & at first he denied it & then said I did show him but they didn't do it. Owner called & said he would call me next day & work something out.

Didn't finish till after midnight & I was only given $139 off at the time for trip fee. Owner never called me back. Charged $1020.00. I have never had a move take 9.5 hours before and they were only moving about 15 miles between houses. I don't understand why they didn't send another person when they realized they gave him the wrong form.

It's obvious from reading other complaints that this is something this company does. they give you a quote and then take twice as long when they know that you're stuck and have to pay. I filed a complaint with the BBB and they still refused to refund me the $300 difference (I'm being more than fair here and subracting off the. high end of their quote).

Aug 17, 2017 I contacted Steve Steele at Two Men and a Truck at the Troy location. I contracted for a job to be done the next day, Friday Aug 18.

Three items were to be picked up at 11895 Wayne Road, Romulus, MI 48174 and delivered to my home in Clarkston, MI. The items consisted of a sofa, love seat and a chair. They all were on pallets crated and wrapped. The scope of work was to pick up, deliver, uncrated and remove all packing and crating materials.

I said all packing must be removed since I had no way of removing it and it is again the subdivision by laws to leave debris on properties.

Steve contracted to do the job as outlined above. He said pick up from Romulus would occur 10:00-10:30 and delivery would occur around 12 Noon.

I authorized payment of $525 using my Visa card over the phone for the job.

Later I received an email from Mary Kuipers. Apparently the name of Mary Fischer Lester provided was incorrect. Please see copy of email below.

Recently I was asked to supervise two moves, both in a small village about 20 miles away from town.

The first move was for a family member, I had recommended "TWO MEN and a TRUCK".

The first move went smooth with two members emptying out a very large, very nice house

in a day. The total cost was around 1,200. A few weeks after this I was charged with supervising a move of an Art collection (including but not limited to about 40 rubbermaid boxes and a few large bronze statues, along with some metal sculptures.

from this same house's garage to a storage shed in town. This tookabout 3 hours and was a cost of 285.00. Please again note that this location was 20 miles out of town.

The time had come for me to move. I called two men and a truck, and gave them the details of my smaller move

here in town. I was quoted "around $400.00" from sales representative Carol Plain. I figured this to be about right

as there was no refrigerator, nor stove to move and the distance was less than 8 miles. Larger than the

Art collection, but not much larger. I also asked if they offered any type of customer loyalty discount

since this is the third time I would be using their services within a two month time span. To which I received this

reply:

"Dear Seth,

We are not permitted to offer any discounts because of state mandated regulations, but since you have moved with us multiple times over the last year we can waive the travel charge for your next move that will save you at least 30 min. off your total moving cost.

We can also offer you $20 in free boxes and packing supplies. Please let us know if you have any other questions, concerns, or are ready to schedule your move.

Thank you for using Two Men and a Truck, we look forward to hearing from you again soon."

After this I was asked for a deposit to be charged to my credit card of $50.00 that would be applied to the balance of the move.

I was called by TWO MEN and a TRUCK on July 18th or 19th, they requested my VISA number to take the deposit which I gave them, of course thinking my total moving cost would be "about $400.00" as originally quoted. After the deposit WAS CHARGED I received an email (quoted below) requesting "additional information on inventory to be moved".

Email:

"Dear Seth,

Yes, Saturday July 27th, arrival at 10 am is fine. We do have some questions as toinventory of items to be moved, so if you could please give us a call."

I found this to be very odd after they had already took my deposit, they suddenly needed "additional information".

Shortly after I received the following email:

"Dear Seth,

Thank you for sending the inventory of items you are moving. Given the inventory of your move we need to send 3 movers to complete this move in one day. 3 movers will save you time and money and will complete the move in less time then 2 movers.

Called in August 9, 2016, spoke to manager Robert. Ask if TM&AT did interstate moves. He said yes and scheduled the in home estimate for 8/15/16 with Ken.

Ken came 8/15/16. Took inventory of apt. and a room of boxes and furniture from my son's apt. two doors down.

Received a email from Jimmie Dasche on the same day with estimate. She explained services. Later sent a copy of the inventory estimate which did not include my furnishings in my son's bedroom. She said no one else would be going on th truck so no need to list. I told her items she missed in my apt. Said she would add. Also I asked for packing of kitchen and all items lamps, shades, shrink wrap all furniture which is in her memo and I though her estimate was high compared to the

other estimates so she lowered it but added $1,000 for transporting the car behind the truck on a flatbed. The total was

$9450.

00.

I accepted the estimate verbally and scheduled for 8/22 to pack all day and 8/23 to load until finished. Packing day was only 3-1/2 hours and was only 1/3 finished. I called the Manager Robert and he let the movers go home. Nothing was packed propertly. On loading day the 8/23 they showed up at 11:30 am unbeknowst to be they had rented a Penske Truck and parked it behind the building. I never agreed to nor knew about the bait and switch of trucks with no DOT ID # on it or their logo until 4-5PM when I had to leave for the hotel.

Two men were called in to help, there were no boxes to pack lamps and shades, mattress and box springs not covered,

items just put in the truck with no protection. High end furniture from Thomasville, Baers, Lexington and expensive vases and artwork from designer shops. My last walk through found end table and lamp and shoes on backs of two doors and

the hall closet nothing taken out, vacumn, buckets, brooms, accessores, iron, etc. I had to leave so I signed one sheet of inventory because there was no contract for my car. There was no contract, order for service, any papers filled out correctly and so I did not sign except for the value of $50,000 for my car and furnishings. The Penske bill of lading I did not know what it was so I called Jimmie Dasche and she said they had $50,000 of insurance and if anything was damaged it would be replaced with an article of equal or greater value or repaired. She said the deductible was included.

I signed an incomplete inventory sheet because of my car but did not have time to add all the items not put on the inventory list. That was on the 23rd.

My son and I left the 24th and got to Florida on the 28th to a hotel. A hurricane came to Tampa and I called Robert and told him not to let the driver come (which I was suspicious of and ask for another driver) for delivery and delay the delay the delivery either the 6th or the 9-10 of August, and paid the $50.00/day for storage in the truck setting at the Marana warehouse (supposedly).

Sean arrived on the 9th and left the bed and a few items. The bed was badly damaged down to the metal of the bed.

He took my car off the truck and drove 6 miles in my car to pick up a mover in Clearwater to help him because I took

the odometer reading when the car was loaded on the truck and when he parked it in my space. In actuality, he stole my car and picked up his friend and did not ask.

They would not take the boxes back, were rude and nasty (I am 76 and tried to unpack and not pay attention to the furniture until the next and called the manager Rober because three vases were smashed, all of the bedroom furniture furniture damaged, glue put into the knob holes of the armoire, matttress and box springs dragged across the parking lot with no protection on it, lamp and two shades broken, four dining chairs 3 years old like knew damaged, glass to sofa table chipped, but the worst of all my hand made oriental asian buffet had drawings and weird markings all over it from an africian american face to many other designs on the doors, top, sides, etc. I sent three pages of damages to their

insurance company and they want to settle for $3500.00. The chairs need to be repaced and are (2) at $359.00 and (2) at $279.00. They allowed $400.00 that they could be fixed. One leg of one chair is smashed. The TV stand he brought in and they put it back on the truck, It cost $279.99 and was used a couple of months and stored and they want to give me

$110.00 and he stole it. They want to pay me nothing for everything they left in the hall coset and nothing for the buffet that was vandalism. They charged my cc $9850,00 and I am fighting that. I was never in contact with then like the email

said and two large vases smashed also. This was nothing but a scam on a senior citizen whom they knew they could get away with and switched trucks with no DOT logo or ID #. This Sean and Robert and the entire Marana office are con artists and I plan to file a report with the Attorney General of Tucson.

Buyer beware of this company. I had them move two mattresses, two boxsprings, a couch, a chaise lounge and about 30 boxes less than .4 miles into a storage unit from a downstairs apartment. The charged me $1,034. 3 hours was just for the "move" to this day I'm not sure what the move included since it didn't take 3 hours to load the items or drive the .4 miles from Montreaux condominiums to Cubesmart. An additional 2 hours was charged for packing the boxes further causing me to question the 3 hour charge for "move". At $130 per hour I would assume that packing would have been included. They didn't bring enough boxes so I had to go to Home Depot during the packing to buy additional boxes. The drivers blamed the office saying "they do this all the time" and the office blamed me saying I should have told them what they needed. They got started later than scheduled (time given between 1-3, arrival time 4p.m.) and dragged the move out. They packed the storage unit wrong so all my items wouldn't fit. They agreed to keep it in the truck until I negotiated with CubeSmart for payment I called the drivers on Sunday and told them that CubeSmart agreed to help pay for the move to a bigger unit. In hopes that they would drop it of Sunday because I would be out of town Monday. The driver hung up in my face and told me they were closed on Sunday. First thing Monday morning, they dropped the left over items off in my old storage unit without permission. They didn't call to tell me what they had done, I found out when CubeSmart called demanding I move the items from the unit immediately because it was no longer my unit. Just so happens, I was on my way to a job interview out of town. I contacted the GM "Pete" upset and looking for options, he swore he knew nothing of any of this and even though I sent him an email complaining about the move early Sunday morning he states that he was planning to call me "later". He blamed me for them not having enough boxes, he refused to reduce the cost claiming that they were within their estimate. The estimate was bogus starting at $500 and going as high as $1800. My sister moved an entire house full of furniture $1500. I never received an apology for illegally dropping the last few items off at CubeSmart on Touchton Rd. Did I mention that the drivers cussed out the manager of CubeSmart when he tried to stop them from just leaving my stuff? If there were a such thing as a zero rating this company would warrant. I hate this because I've used Two men and a truck in other areas and gave them great reviews. The Jacksonville, Arlington Expressway does not deserve to be allowed to use their good name! Shame on them for destroying the good reputation others worked so hard to establish.

Never hire this company, they charged my move double the estimated quote. i refused to sign the credit card authorization form. i later noticed they charged my card by forging my signature, i emailed the company clearly advising them of this fraudulent act, i called julian montalvo the companies manager who ignorned my calls and emails. they are crooks. the movers took there time, spoke about how they hated working for this company. i contacted my credit card company and they are investigating this a fraudulent act. i am contacting the attorney general office as well. this company is bad news and julian montalvo is as slimy as they come.

1. many of my belongings were left behind during move even though there was still room on the truck (nothing was stacked higher than 5 feet tall (ie nothing was stacked over my head) movers stated they couldn't add more because they would be overweight (I was quoted for an 8000 lb move and my belongings only ended up weighing 5000 lbs, therefore all of my belongings could have fit on truck. I had to rent a second set of movers and truck to finish the move. (the movers also lied about how many boxes were left behind--they said there were 12 boxes left behind but they left 12 in the living room and an ENTIRE ROOM of boxes was never touched for a total of about 40ish boxes--filled 1/2 of a 10 foot Uhaul truck and weighed much less than the 3000 lb difference between my quote and what was moved)

2. many of my small furniture pieces were damaged/dented/pieces lost

3. freshly painted walls in house I was leaving were damaged, as were walls in house I was moving into (a brand new built apartment)

4. hard wood floors and stairs in both locations were horribly damaged.

5. move took hours longer than was quoted.

6. half of the moved items were supposed to go to a storage locker but the movers screwed up and brought over 30 boxes to the apartment instead of the storage locker even though everything was labeled as to where it was going. I was left with renting a second truck to move all of the items.

7. insurance claim filed with moving company and after months of waiting because I don't have photos of my undamaged floors and walls prior to the move to prove that the movers did the damages my claim was denied and now I am responsible for thousands of dollars worth of damages to refinish hard wood floors and staircase and repainting of house (which had already been repainted the week prior to the move!) (note I did not even include all of the damages in the claim as I didn't feel including the small inexpensive pieces of furniture that were damaged seemed worth it compared to the major damages to floor and wall)

The move from Springfield, IL to St. Louis, MO amount was $1117.25. The 2 men damaged the door frame and put a hole in the door. I was immediatlely told that they would fill out a claim for getting reimbursed. Upon completion of the move, I was them told that I was responsible for pics and filling out a claim form. After looking through my signed paperwork, the movers never left me a claim form to fill out. The same day at approximately 8pm I received an unprofessional text message from the mover by the name of Leslie. I then received another disturbing text at 11:30pm. It totally freaked me out, not only did they damage the door but they damaged the side rails of my platform bed, they scrapped the wood off my dining table and punctured a hole on my leather dining chair A stop payment was made on the disastrous move. I spoke to the Manager and he said that he would do nothing about the violation of my privacy.

He also told me that they was not going to reimburse me for payment. He said that he would have someone to come and fix the damages...which is impossible because the items were severely damaged. The manager said that he wasn't doing any thing until I paid him. He threatened to send this matter to collections. There is no price value for my privacy being violated. I also feel like I should be penalized on my credit report because of the damages that were done. This company had no intent to reimburse me for damages. I'm not paying for the incompetence of this company, however I am paying for the lost of my privacy being violated because now I have to feel out a police report for the mover/creeper that made unwanted comments about me sleeping in my bed through his text messages.

We used this company to move our household goods to our new place. We had used them before and when they moved our house, they were able to get it done in under 3 hours total. We had everything packed up and broken down except for 1 bed. This time it took them 5.25 hours with less stuff to move. When I called them to talk to the manager, Lisa, on moving day, she had indicated that she scheduled 3.25 hours for our move. We had planned on 3.5 hours for the move. After I spoke to Lisa, the movers started to hurry up instead of taking their time. The move ended up taking 5.25 hours.

When we questioned the additional time, we were talked over and spoken to in a rude, unprofessional manner by the manager, Tim Ackerman. He also said that he didn't care about the 3% of unhappy customers and also mentioned that their calls were recorded. This was never told to us up front so they not only rip people off, but they illegally tape their calls. He told us that he would call us back at the end of the day - he did not. We had to track him down for answers - to which he was very rude and combative. No offer of any compensation or discount at all - he did nothing to try to fix this situation.

We had used this company before and had been very pleased with their service. This was back in 2012. Their management now is horrible and does not care about customer service at all. This was a very disappointing experience - we were ripped off.

This is the seond time I used Two Men and a Truck in North Carolina. The first time was a 1 1/2yrs ago. I was quoted one price and the charges were double. I did not argue. I paid the amount. This time, I was given another estimate and was charged double again. I am not talking a measely $200 dollars. I was given a estimate for $1,485 for 8 hrs. The move took two days because they did not have a large enough truck. My bill was $2900. My first move, the same thing happened.

I beleive Two Men and a Truck uses unethical business practices to get customers to sign up. Two Men and a Truck knowingly provides a low ball bid. Once they show up, they have you sign documents indicating that your estimate, is only an estimate. Actually charges will be based upon the move. They quote you half amount of time, knowing the total will be double.

Additonally, I requested that someone come to my property to give me an estimate. They said it will not be necessary. Just tell us about the contents you will be providing.

I assumed the first time was a fluk about the estimate, time it took to move (2Days), and the charge. The second move was identical to the first. The estimate was half the amount. The size of the truck was too small, requiring a two day move.

I am going to report this company to the Attorney General of North Carolina.

Do Not Use Two Men and a Truck unless you get them to visit your home. Ask for a Do Not Exceed estimate.
