Waste of money!

All the information that came up was also easily found for free on other websites. This was AFTER I had signed up and paid my first payment! After searching myself, all it came up with was addresses and old phone numbers. Didn't even say anything about the professional license I've had for 23 years. If you want the "real" report, you have to upgrade. No thanks!!! Save your money!

The better buisness people should shut this place down. I just paid them $32.00 to tell me nothing. They could not even come up with my telephone number. All they had to do was look in the telephone book!!!They came up with my current address but not any previous one's of which I have two.Criminal records showed nothing but I was arrested twice. They even tried to get me to sign up for a premium upgrade at another $19.95...give me a break. They were listed on the net as one of the best at what they do. Wonder how much they paid them to say that. I am going to try and contest the charge on my credit card. What a rip-off

Very Scary; access to anyone's information

Lots of public records are wrong. There is no one correcting these things, and certainly TruthFinder shows no way of changing inaccurate information about oneself. Insurance companies use this information for rates, yet often times no one is checking to see if the tickets one receives going into a national online database is correct. When I had a single accident, the same ticket showed up twice (no one looked) I was told by the insurance company that my rates exploded because of two tickets. Someone, probably a bank, put my address down as that of my EX. I've never lived there...but being associated, apparently someone thought I could be found there.

Names associated with mine are off the mark...not even friends. System algorithms and such can easily find data, but it takes a person to review and correct information. Don't rely totally on such data.

What's scary is that any criminal can use this site to gather information, use it and destroy ones credibility. TruthFinder has no safety lock on who can access this data in my opinion. Zoominfo.com at least lets one correct information gleaned from articles about a person...if you are that person. Seems there should be a way to set TruthFinder to find false information and correct it...before offering it up to anyone.

I paid $27.88 for a background check and after i paid i pushed the Download button and Nothing.

So i called and was on hold for 45 minutes so i sent an e mail and Nothing. Still Nothing and it's a day later.

I almost forgot. I got hit with an extra $3.99 upon finishing to get the dowloadable version

Got an E-mail from Truth Finder asking " Are you on a government watch list?" What? So I go to the site and enter a name to do their check on. I entered: Mortimer Snerd. For my name I entered: Ima Jerk. I put my birth year in as 1923. Truth Finder went through all kinds of official looking searches, which I knew were B.S. And sure enough, they come up with a " report," on Mortimer Snerd who lives in Rowlett, Texas. Yeah right.

Of course they want $ 27.00 for the " report". It was almost worth paying the fee to see what kind of made up horse .... they came up with. Scam, Scam, Scam. Then there is a disclaimer in tiny print which states: " Our information may not be 100% correct. Really?

After my divorce and realized that my Ex-Husband had destroyed my credit. I saw a free report listed under truthfinder.com. So, I wanted to check it out and see what else I might not know about since my resume was not working to find me a new job. I was worried that maybe a back ground check was stopping me.

While I was filling out the questions the site was asking a notice shot onto the screen and said that the person I was looking for informtaion for was on a government terrorist watchlist! So, I finished the questions and then the site showed me that I had to pay for this free report. I paid like an idiot and when I got the report all it showed was basic information. Nothing to do with the watch list.

They pray on good people who worry about reputation. I did a scam search too late, and now I have to go to the bank tomorrow and cancel my debit card so that they can't continue to bill me like they have to so many others. If someone goes after this company please let me know.

Total scam

From the day I subscribed to the website, I've been getting spam mail about dating, creditcard companies, and a lot of other sh** I'm not interested in. I have a question, how do I get off their mailing list?

  • Jun 18, 2018

First, they got my middle initial wrong, and for most queries they provide ranges, get family members wrong and have 90% bad information. They can't even use public records correctly. Avoid at all cost. Tried removing my credit card from their site and they won't let me. Luckily that card got canceld but the quality of information on that site and the amount of bs extra fees they charge you after the monthly subscription is obnoxious. $20 entry, but to get any information (which you later find out is wrong and not even close) you have to pay extra fees.

  • Mar 15, 2018

This company failed to cancel my subscription even though I sent an email -- and customer service is non-existent over the phone (they just try to sell more or upsell).TOTAL SCAM ON BILLING PRACTICES! They have an A+ BBB rating even though 99% NEGATIVE COMPLAINTS on them--go figure. Somebody clearly is being paid off with the tons of money they are making SCAMMING people. Even PayPal was no help--another California company in cahoots with them, I guess. RIPOFF--DO NOT USE, EVER!!!!

  • Jan 15, 2018

It's a big fraud ripoff. They claim up front that they have the info on the person, however I found that over 50% was wrong information and after you cancel out the program they then tell you in small print that much of the stuff they report may or may not be correct. The Government should shut them done.

  • Jan 8, 2018

I must have lost my marbles because I know better, but when I searched up my son after accidentally clicking on a link on a different website, it showed that "First, Middle, Last" has 10+ criminal charges... Mind you, he has a very rare Hebrew middle name and is the only first, middle, and last name person with this name in the entire US. OK, so now I am hooked. (This was all purposely misleading!!!) If they had just put that "first, last" in the State of XXX has 10+ criminal record, I would have skipped, as that is so very easy to see thru, but when they come up with his actual middle name and put the entire middle name in quotes, that means something. So I purchased, and on his criminal record section it says: "First, Middle Last' name has zero criminal record, well now... Under the section of non matching, ie: first and last, there were "others" but not the person/son I was looking up.

I called the company and they gave me classic corporate lines about how the info might not be accurate, etc.... Yea, they purposely did this: Put the "First, Middle and Last" name in quotes to get your attention and cause you to buy. Then when you do, the truth comes out. This was a classic bait and switch, or as I like to call it: A purposeful lie to get $30 from me.... Beware, Stay Away. Don't fall for the report info or anything in "quotes". It it there to rip you off also.

TruthFinder is a scam company pretending to sell background checks when they are actually stealing and selling YOUR information! I signed up for a background report on somebody. Before I even paid for the report, I started receiving hundreds of spam and scam emails every day about porn, foreign brides, drugs, bitcoins, and worse.

When I contacted TruthFinder, they informed me that the privacy policy on their website states basically states that they may give away my personal and private information to whomever they choose. They said I could "unsubscribe," but this is not the case. The damage is done, my private email address is now in the hands of spammers and scammers all over the world. There is no unsubscribing, that ship has sailed.

The one other time this nightmare happened to me it took around 40 hours to change my email address in the hundreds of places it's used. I bill $125 an hour for my time, so I make it around $6000 that I'm out of pocket thanks to TruthFinder.

After some background research, I believe they are running a scam. On their BBB page, the CEO listed is also the CEO of a nearby company named "The Control Group" which specializes in email marketing. Therefore I'm making the assumption that TruthFinder is not selling background checks at all, it's a front for stealing and selling email addresses and private information. They also own numerous other domains such as top4backgroundchecks . com/ and bakgroundchecks . org where they pretend to be a different company giving themselves good reviews. It’s pretty obvious because when you go to the privacy policy pages of these websites, they are all in San Diego, and all use the same language. VERY SHADY!!

What TruthFinder does not seem to have grasped, is just because you give yourself permission in a website policy to do something, does not make it legal. The FTC and BBB have been interested to hear about what they are up to.

Bottom line, do NOT trust this company.

  • Nov 10, 2017

TRUTHFINDER CAN SUCK IT! STRAIGHT UP CRIMINALS

DON'T. JUST DON'T CLICK ON ANYTHING THEY OFFER. They are the HERPES of the online fee-based services. You will NEVER WIN or get rid of them. Period. Full Stop.

Since then, I have been harassed by truthfinder.com multiple times every day with unwanted infromation they place on by BROWSER CONSTANTLY. I would like this harassment to stop before I am forced to place federal charges against them.

Do not sign up with these charlatans. I was curious several months ago and decided to sign up for a trial subscription. I started researching my families and friends names and I also researched my own name. Well, these charlatans (which is very nice, compared to what I'd really like to call them) had nothing but false, misleading and inaccurate information on their database regarding every person that I looked up, including myself. They must have combined me with at least 100 other persons, with the same name, along with their addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, criminal backgrounds and even a photo that wasn't mine.

My son (who died overseas in the Marines) and my daughters (a college student) names were also in this database and the information was completely inaccurate. My young daughter's photo was plastered on the page. Needless to say, I was outraged. Well, after making repeated attempts to delete our information, with no success, I reached out to their customer service team to have the information deleted and this has never been done. I've sent them emails and I've spoken to their customer service team by phone and I was assured that all of our information would be removed.

I will be filing a formal complaint with the BBB, along with the State Attorney Generals Office about this site, because they are refusing to remove my families information from their database.

DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE SCAMMERS!!

  • Sep 7, 2017

I was trying to check the background of an aide for my wheelchair bound 90 year old father and to look up some old friends so I entered my debit card number at TRUTHFINDERS to access this information.

My friend had moved from NY to Vermont 3 YEARS AGO but they still had his old address. I knew he had a criminal record but nothing showed up and I know everything about this guy but his social security number. Report was completely useless!

I ran a report on myself with TRUTHFINDERS. Again the information was totally outdated and inaccurate.

I then contacted TRUTHFINDERS and told them that the service they were selling was essentially fraudulent and I wanted all charges removed from my credit card. They said they would but

when I checked my bank statement the charges were still there.

I called them and they refused to refund my money saying that they don't do background checks and don't guarantee the accuracy of thier results. This is the opposite of what they say on thier site to get you to sign up with them.

My bank is going to claw back my money but what is important is that if you use this site your next date may well be an ax murderer and incorrect information about you might be on the reports they sell.

  • Aug 16, 2017

I used Truthfinder to buy one background check. I did not sign up for any other services. They charged my Chase Visa credit card a momthly fee three times. I overlooked these charges because I had opted for autopay through my bank. As soon as I discovered these charges I called Chase Visa. They immediately issued a credit for the fraudulent charges and blocked Truthfinder from charging my account in the future. I would like to issue a complimemt to Chase Visa for excellent services.

Really awful and should be illegal. I can't believe they are continuing to operate, thought Google had some control. Guess not.

TRUTHFINDER RIPPED ME OFF! BUYER BEWARE

What??! Just saw that I was charge for 3 mos. of a service which I knowingly and fully canceled the VERY day I opened the account. Why? I was only taking them up on their offer to try the account out for free and cancel before signing up for their service! I even have an email telling my husband I'd cancelled the account! I was nervous about providing my billing details to use the trial offer -- as I never intended to sign up for for the service! I KNOW I cancelled it now I'm going to send my email and screen shots to the Better Biz Bureau and other billing complain platforms!!!! RIGHT NOW. This is outrageous! What a total rip off and they KNOW it! BUYER BEWARE. NOW GOING TO SEEK INFO ON CLASS ACTION SUIT FOR THIS PLACE. SCAM ALERT!!!! I called the company and the man from Truthfinder sounded like I was wrong to think I'd cancelled but he would be so gracious to go ahead and offer to give me back my last month of billing. Gee thanks, but I never EVER signed up for it!!! What I noticed was that they waited for a few months before they started with the 29.95 a mo. billing with Paypal. I guess the charges got by me for a few months as I never expected them to be there! But now I will follow this up and figure out who responsible for this total scam!!!

They need to refund me asap for 2 x 29.95 and apologize.

I found this company to give very sketchy information. A person is far better to use public records and pay for them...then to use this service. They say you can get additional information, and there are everal upgrades and charges in doing so. I totally agree with the previous 2 complaints. I called them and hung up after being rudely treated on the phone. Don't try their email address as it comes back "undeliverable". I figured at such a cost, to get better service. I am totally disappointed.

TRUTH

I did not want to find information about anybody else, I just tried to check what they share about me. By the way I have no shady history at all. I must say those who check other people deserve to be scammed. And this is real truth that you find.

  • Nov 21, 2016

I'm not sure if my first post took.

I didn't check a star.

The jest of my first post was......

I was just looking up an old friend, and I almost got taken, and I'm an I.T. professional!!! Got to the point where they wanted my name {gave a bogus one} then they wanted my email address. So, I googled them, and found this site. Thanks to ALL of you good folks, I "X-ed" out quickly, re-booted, and ran Malwarebytes. No problems, so far. If anyone knows of a FREE and LEGIT site for looking up people, please post it here. I'll check back from time to time.

So again, THANKS. Keep SCAMMING THE SCAMMERS, whenever possible!

Peace

Truthfinder reported fallacious which I contested in a written e-mail to the address they specified and requested a return response. After a few days with no response, I contacted them at 800-699-8081 and was told by the Rep that all information was pulled from public records.

I informed the rep that in my case that was impossible because I used the reference number and contacted the institution they referenced. the institution used both my name and the reference number they have on their site and the institution said on two different occasions that neither my name or their reference number is in their files. This is an agency that report their information publicly.

After several go rounds they said they would remove from their data base and cancel my subscription. I asked for and was assured I would receive an e-mail confirmation with an OPT Out along with confirmed cancellation.

Again, after a few days of not receiving this I contacted them again and was now told that they no longer send e-mail confirmations and according totheir records as noted no refund. I informed this new Rep that I never agreed to no refund and was told I would get a written statement. I informed the rep that not providing me with a written cancellation and refund was unacceptable and I would be following up with a written request sent in the mail.

Now, when I go to the site the city is incorrect and for me to see if anything else is incorrect, I must pay again. The written information they report is LIBEL.

  • Oct 17, 2016

The Truthfinders.com website is fraudulent in its advertising. It states free free free to provide public information, but it is a scam scam scam. Beware of time wasted, and/or being conned into paying for what they promise you is a free service.

  • Oct 15, 2016

Waste of bandwidth

I don't think this is a scam, but it sure is a waste of time and money.

I did a trial subscription for $1, good for five days. I paid using PayPal. I unsubscribed a couple hours after doing the trial. The refund showed up promptly. I changed my password, just in case . . . but it's a good idea to do that once in awhile anyway.

I played with the site for an hour or so. I couldn't find my own records (both my first and last names are very common) but did find hundreds of other records that weren't me. I found some outdated addresses for one person I was looking for. I tried a couple other people and found no records. It doesn't let you specify full middle name and confuses people with the same middle initial (eg., my brother, Thomas Burnet, got tagged with a possible criminal offence for a Thomas Bishop despite having a different birthdate). The 'advanced' search, which lets you specify age and town, doesn't show up consistently. Lots of weasel words, like "may contain information on". It doesn't routinely search all public databases. Eg., you have to pay extra to get it to go over freely available voter registration databases.

Save your time and money. Don't bother with this one.

  • Oct 14, 2016

Wanted the details of a particular party. Took a while, but stated they generated a report. Instead of being able to purchase just that report, you have to pay to join their group as a client. Auto-renewal, as with all scammers, and promise to cancel whenever you'd like. All i wanted to know was why i could not pay for a single report, but using the given phone number the only options were regarding your already established account with them. Otherwise, i kept being told "invalid selection". What a crock!

  • Oct 1, 2016

Doesn't have criminal records posted that I know are out there

You don't have the 2 dwis listed that the person I was looking for has on their record.

  • Sep 29, 2016

I found truthfinder by taking on line surveys which offered 14 days free. I wanted only to see what was there on myself. During the sign up process you have to sign up for a fee which gets immediately deducted from your account. You can cancel at any time but you may Not get a refund. Any useful information you want costs more; ie premium reports. The absolute biggest ripoff I have ever come across.

  • Sep 18, 2016

Looked up my grandfather, and the only thing they got correct was his name. Unfortunately the

Guy they reported on, had the same name, different address, and history.. I called for refund.

"forgetaboutit".. Even worse, the information they gave about the wrong person was so

Limited, you may as well have looked him up in the white pages and got more information.

  • Sep 7, 2016

TruthFinder NOT Truthful

They make it sound free. Then you respond to a bunch of questions, then they show their phony progress bars. And then they tell you to pay. I guess their geniuses think that if you go to all that time and trouble, you'd decide to pay. Guess what! We're not gonna pay! You're a lousy scam!

  • Sep 5, 2016

Truthfinder steals money and gives outdated information

I am not one to fall for scams, but this one got me. Truthfinder Inc. should be ashamed of themselves for stealing money from people who give them their trust. This site has stolen from at least 100 people for every one person they may have helped locate someone. I hope that the employee(s) have trouble sleeping at night and feel a continous internal discomfort for their role in this outrageous scam. I am out money for which I am not happy about, but those involved in this scam of a website will pay a bigger price in the end if they have the slightest conscious.

Don't waste your time, wants money in a deceiving way

Don't waste your time, wants money in a deceiving way

used this website to see what is there about me on the internet

sent me a bunch of question to answer while I was waiting for my report, I was like if you know about me like you say you do , what is with all the questions. after 10 mins of this website down loading, scanning my info in so called public records and then it asked for my email address where it claims to be sending my full report, Claims I will be surprised to read it. then at the end it asked me to pay before getting the info. Sucked that I already gave it my email address. never falling for this kind of scam again. I did not mind paying , however be upfront with us. don't waste people's time.

They Charge you before they will actually give you any information. Plus, what they do give you is the same info you

would get from a Google Search. Do not use. Plus, any data you do imput during your search only just adds to

their database - so you are actually doing work for them.

Do Not Use.... The workers at TruthFinder all are smelly, oily and very unattractive.... oh, bad breath too - gross!

TruthFinder will charge for finding dead people

If it is obvious, that the person you are searching for died, shouldn't you be warned during search?
