Custom mechanical and sheet metal of baxter mn, 218-821-1068

I would say at first glance he seems nice enough and appears to be meticulous in his work, but after further inspection by other professionals there is a lot that is left lacking. He spews his type A personality all over the job complaining about every little thing searching for ways to up charge.I actually got a $350 bill because the mechanical room height was 5’ instead of 6’. His justification being I have to bend over more, when in fact he sat on a stool in this area and it posed no additional effort on his behalf. It was requested that he provide a proposal for heating and ac for an entire house, he then words his bid as "I will place 15 heat runs " omitting areas of the house for no apparent reason. Then when you are more than half way through the job and he has not provided heat and A/C to every room he states “I bid 15 heat runs” and will then charge you exuberant fees to complete what should have been included to start. He will also try and charge you for extra materials for what should have been included stating I gave an “estimate” not a bid and estimates are subject to change.

There are dozens of other reasons to stay away from this guy Damond Clanton is as shady as they come! He will evade questions and never provide a straight answer. Below is a portion of the correspondence that was initiated by me once he was terminated. And all he could ask is where is this coming from.

“Where is this all coming from? It is not an isolated instance there has been several red flags for me along the way. I will do my best to detail them for you. It initially started when you had an obvious objection to how the job was being run, you stated it was dirty and there were people in your way. From that point it felt as if you were trying to capitalize off of us as much as possible to offset your discontent. I have built two homes and you are the very first to have a problem with the way things are being run.

Then you gave a bill for $350 because you felt the height of the basement was to low, when you stood in the basement hole in september and were well aware of what the hight was going to be. A bill for this in my opinion is ridiculous and yet another example of you searching for ways to up charge us.

Next you gave us bills for material overages pipe and insulation and tried to pass it off as you provided an “estimate” and estimates are subject to change. You are the only contractor to ever try and do this, every other trade had a clear understanding that I was requesting a number to provide their services and these numbers are not subject to change except in the event of (changes or add on’s). It’s your job to calculate quantities of material you need and if you make a mistake it is on you not me.

Next in your estimate you omitted the up stairs, I have no idea why then tried to charge us to to add these items. you did eventually remove the fee, but the fact that you even tried to charge me for you mistake really did not rest easy with me.

Additionally I had requested the in floor heat on weeks ago, you stated that it is not possible as it is too cold. We then agreed on a solution that we payed to use glycol to get it going. Still no infloor heat on, I mentioned to you I need it on by last thursday and you gave some lame excuse as the glycol was freezing and too thick to pump through. This was the final straw for me. There is no way the glycol was freezing in 35 degree weather. I now know what you were up to, you charged us $580 to use glycol but all the while you had froze up the in floor heat system using only water. This is why the gaskets on the valve burst and and all the hoses were leaking and flooding the basement. You never once notified us that the in floor heat was frozen, you just played it off like it was everyone else's fault it could not be turned on stating there are areas of the house not insulated, that we have not gotten enough heat on in there. This never made any sense to me as the glycol was the answer to get the in floor going down to below zero temps. It is now evident you had intended on keeping the $580 without giving us the product we were paying for. All of this to me seems like very shady practice. I had to pay the electrician to come in on a sunday to wire up 220 and had to attain electric heaters that could be run 24 hours a day in order to thaw the the in floor heat you froze up. For these reason I don’t want you to finish the job, I do not want to be tied to you for future warranty work for furnace or ac.

As for the ductwork sizing I am not sure where you are coming up with 10x20? at the furnace it is 8x20 and is 8x20 measured all the way up. If it in some way expands to 10x20 in the attic that is still quite useless as you can only push so much air through a 8x20.

As I explained before it is my desire to come up with an amicable separation agreement, there is no working this out you have already been replaced.

To this point you have most recently been paid for more than you have provided. It would not be good for either of us to go through the process of litigation, it would ease this transition and be in both our best interest if we could come up with an amicable separation agreement. We have no desire to receive refund from you that is in excess of what you have earned to date.

His only response to this email is wow I don’t know what to say to all that. I eventually received another bill from this individual for over $900 stating we owed him tax. This guy is unreasonable, shady and will take and take and take. Oh ya one more thing he sent me a breakdown of his expenses that we supposedly paid for and these included his licensing and insurance fees for operation of his business.
