Trip.com Reviews

I have booked through trip.com for 3 roundtrip tickets before the pandemic to travel from PEK to SEA which costed USD$3000 in total. While during pandemic period, flights were cancelled but trip.com was unable to make any changes for me since Feb 2020 which was my originally return date. I contacted the airline directly and made changes 3 times due to flight cancellations and they were willing to proceed as I was their frequent traveller club member. However, the latest flight which is due to leave in Oct 26, 2020 were cancelled again. And this time the next available flight were unavailable.

I have decided after 6 months of waiting and changing, I will need to get a refund of the tickets and repurchase others. This was when I turned back to trip.com and first they couldn't able to find any alternatives so after days of back and fro email, I went ahead to ask the company to refund the ticket based on the first email that stated the refund amount per ticket was 3663 CNY / USD450. However, when I ask this company after less than 7 days of this original quote, they didn't honor this amount and said that they will only provide less than 800 CNY / USD 100 per ticket as they need to charge me for refund fees of 2500 CNY / USD 310 each. So this means that basically they have originally agreed to provide USD1350 refund now became USD$300, a 10% of the original price paid. In addition, the company threatened me that if I did not make a decision then the charges will go even higher, bringing down the final refundable amount even lower.

I believe this is absolutely an unethical practice and while all airlines have been very flexible on changing and refunding unused flight tickets due to the pandemic, Trip.com claimed and accused the airlines were not being flexible while they are the ones who did not honor the rightful refundable amount. They basically wanted to rip off their customers, especially helpless one who just needed to travel and leveraging this current situation of travel bans/limitations to make customers' lives even more difficult than it is and making money out of every single one of these travelers.

Trip.com charged me for a hotel stay that they scheduled for me on the wrong date and will not refund a charge to my card for over $300.

backstory: Trip.com advertises hotel stays on a particular date for less money than what they will charge you upon check out. This is an illegal scheme but they get away with it. I paused during check out, and called their support office. The call center was looking into the issue and then agreed to book my trip for the proper date, at the advertised price.

When we showed up for our hotel stay (over $300 charge) the hotel was booked and my wife had a surgery procedure the next morning at 5am. This placed us in a very bad spot and put unnecessary stress upon us, forcing us to scramble late at night to find a hotel close enough to UCLA Medical to avoid hours in traffic and potentially miss a very important surgery. Luckily we found another hotel that night close to the hospital.

Trip.com is refusing to refund us a mis-booked hotel stay involving their customer service department for over $300 that we never used. Never again will I use Trip.com.

I want to warn everyone not to book with trip.com

they offer lower prices, and when you book, just before your flight, they will cancel booking and ruin your schedule. And they give you a missed call and immediately write you an email saying that they called you to explain everything but you didn't pick up, so your booking is canceled.

I have checked many websites, and the reviews are the same , saying they are illegitimate.

I would like to add that my booking number is 9165419530. We wrote them an email asking what happened. And when trip.com answered, they said it wasn't their fault, but the hotel canceled booking because of nationality?!?

Immediately we called the hotel, and spoke to the hotel manager, who said and confirmed that it was a lie and never hotel cancels a booking because of nationality, so it's a fraud from trip.com just to get away with it. The manager said that never anyone on behalf of trip.com contacted the hotel. We travel to Egypt every year and never have seen something like that.

We also previously wrote and informed trip.com that we meet our friends at the hotel, like 15 people, including the same nationality, we all got visas, but they were lucky to deal with the right and honest online agent. So what we were left with is ruined vacation which was planned long ago and in one minute all the plans were ruined by the fraud of trip.com.

I hope this information will help others.

Never book with trip.com. Do your research about this company before you book. if we were wise and did our research before, we wouldn't have been in this situation now. They cause a big moral damage to us.

I wish a lawyer can start a court case against trip.com and claim for their website closure, as we have found too many people on other websites got cheated by trip.com and claim it's a fraud.

thank you
