Travelocity Reviews

I live part-time in China. Back in December of 2022, I booked a plane ticket on Japan Airlines (from Beijing to Dallas) via Travelocity. I was to fly to Dallas on Christmas day. I also purchased their cancelation insurance since the flight was non-refundable.

On December 10th, I contracted COVID. The insurance specifically listed COVID as an illness that was covered. I waited until Dec. 23rd to see if I was going to be well enough to fly. I was still running a temp of 102-104. I was very, very sick. I was alone and had no clue how to get to a hospital or doctor.

I went to Travelocity's website to cancel my flight. I got an error message saying that they had a glitch in their system and that I needed to call an 800 number. Well, the only way I could figure out how to call an American 800 number from China was through my Skype account. I was successful in making the call and stayed on hold for over an hour. I was so sick that I could barely get to the bathroom. I finally hung up. I called back 3-4 times after that and met with the same situation.

At that point, I realized that it was a scam. No way to cancel the flight which prohibited me from making a claim on the insurance that I'd purchased. I lost over $2,000 (which included the premium I paid for the so-called insurance). I went to my bank and their anti-fraud department was powerless to help me.

Beware of Travelocity period. Certainly don't buy their travel protection insurance. (Book directly with the airline whenever possible.) It is a scam. I also learned that Expedia owns Travelocity. I'm assuming that they have the same type of situation set up that make it impossible for you to cancel and collect on the travel insurance.

I book a package (hotel, flight and car rental) with cancelation protection in June, 2021. I try to contact them to cancel the package by virtual chat and calling them, not being able to reach them. They promised I'll be called back in 6 hours. I don't recieve any call by the time pormised and contacting my bank to reverse the transcation. They called back the next day and I missed their call, calling back and being ask to leaving the call back number as before.

Now the investigation of my bank is done. I have to response the $854.84 hotel reservation, and $237.80 for the flight. They claim can't find my liternacy and I'm not being able to get refund after the travel date.

We booked on the internet and inadvertedly got the wrong hotel, within minutes we contacted Travelocity and asked if we could change hotels. After a protacted conversation the phone person said they would contact the hotel to see if it would be possible, and we were to phone back the next day.

As were phoning back we received an email saying the booking was cancelled and the $500+ was non refundable. At no time did we say were were cancelling the booking, in fact we said if we could not change hotels we would stay at the one booked.

After doing some research this seems to be a common practice of Travelocity. My suggestion is to avoid them like the plague (which they are) and deal directly with the hotels.
