I signed up for a free 30 day trial to Thrive Market. Before my 30 day trial ended, I used the cancel account form on Thrive's website to cancel my account. This was on August 13th, 2015.

August 13th - I received an email from Thrive, it was a customer retention type email, they were trying to convince me to not cancel my account. They offered to cut the membership cost in half to $29.95 per year. I replied to the email to decline and stated that I would like for my account to be cancelled.

August 17th - I received an automated email that stated my free trial was about to expire.

August 19th - I replied to the August 13th retention email a 2nd time, I asked if my account had been cancelled, and stated again that I would like for it to be cancelled.

August 21st - I received an automated email with the subject line of "We haven't gotten back to you yet, but we're on it!".

It was an email stating that it was taking longer than usual to get back to me.

August 22nd - I received an email to say that they were not able to charge my debit card for the cost of the membership (the membership that I have now requested twice to be cancelled). (This is a prepaid debit card that I usually only keep a few dollars on, specifically for signing up for "free" trials" and the like.)

August 26th - I received a 2nd email stating that they were unable to charge my card for the membership (the membership that I have now requested be cancelled 3 times.)

September 2nd - I've completely forgotten about this because it has been so long since the last email. I added money to my prepaid debit card for an Amazon purchase and a bill that needed to be paid.

September 3rd - At 4:57 A.M. I receive an email saying "Thanks For Joining Thrive Market!" They have stolen money ($29.95) from my debit card to enroll me in their membership that I do not want to be a member of, that I have requested to be cancelled 3 times over the last 3 weeks. My Amazon purchase payment was declined, as was the payment for the bill that I needed to pay.

Thrive is a shady company that refuses to cancel my membership and has now stolen money from my account. Do not sign up for their free trials, do not sign uo for a membership at all. Cancelling is apparently impossible, they will ignore your requests and take money from you the first chance they get.

So there was this add on Facebook about coconut oil for just a dollar, so I said hey why not. I bought it and today they charged me for $60 claiming that I signed up for the membership.

i accepted their trial membership offer and placed an order. All went ok with the order but i decided not to go forward with the annual membership. They sent me a courtesy email reminder that i would billed for an annual membership if i didnot cancel within 2 weeks. I wrote them 5 times between receipt of email and actual biling date. I additionally tried calling (you cannot get a live person) but you cannot speak to anyone or leave a message. In addition they never replied back (other than automated response telling me any response would be delayed) to my written request. They billed my CC and refused all attempts to address this scam. I ended up having to file a BBB report. Guess what? They responded instantly.

If you dont want to take my word for it search the internet. This is their MO.

This is a blatant scam and i would suggest avoiding at all costs.

I received an unauthorized charge for $29.95 for a 6 month membership.

I redeemed an offer for "free coconut oil" on July 17 2016 that included a $1.95 charge for shipping. The terms and conditions indicated that I had 2 weeks from the time my order was shipped to cancel.

On July 21, I indicated via their web form that I would like to cancel my trial. I received an email response on July 22 that suggested I give the trial some more time with an offer to extend my trial by one month. I replied on July 27 that I was unhappy with their prices even with membership and would like to proceed with cancelling. They wrote me back on July 27 with an offer for a 6 month membership for $29.95. I did not agree to this offer.

I have told them 3 times that I do not want a membership. Prior to this dispute, I have had no contact with them since July 27. I have not logged into my account or visited their website or taken advantage of their services in any way. Yet suddenly 2 months later, they have charged me for a membership out of the blue.

Placing my first order was a nightmare. It took days to get my order through. By the time that I got the site to work and got customer support, the offier had expired. Thankfully, Diana helped me with my order and got everything straightened out, offered me a membership discount and gave me the offer that had expired. I enjoyed receiving my order and looked forward to ordering again. Now, that was great customer service!

When I attempted to order again on Friday, I put in a hefty order but, again, was unable to order since the site wanted to charge me $99.95 for a tin of smoked oysters. I had ordered four tins and was surprised that the price changed in the shopping cart to almost $500 for 8 items.

I wrote to customer service, requesting Diana again. Instead, a woman named Brooke responded every time.

She did not respond to my requests to reach Diana and said that the offer that I had again missed (since it took days for them to get back to me) was not available to me and that I had to wait for another offer to come around. She did reactivate a discount code that Diana had sent me, but the offer to save $30 on a $70 order was no longer available and Brooke was not going to do anything about it.

So I cancelled my membership and the 20 items that I was going to order will never reach my door.

It serves me right to not shop locally. Internet shopping helps me out since I am disabled and getting around is difficult for me. Sometimes I don't have what I need to cook nourishing meals and rely heavily on the internet. Well, Thrive Market will not be one of them. I don't know why this company was willing to give up a customer so easily along with the membership fees that I would pay again next year.

Sasha Siddhartha and Gunnar Lovelace are not reachable. Instead, they have social cretins like Brooke losing them customers! To quote this impossible woman, "

Brooke's reply: Thank you for your reply. I am sorry to hear that. However, we are not able reactivate a previous promotion. We have a ton of promotions every week, so keep an eye on your email and follow us on social media for early access to the next great offer! Let me know if I may assist you with anything else. Have a great day.

Out Of The Box Thrive Review

I am not judging any of the comments, and very sorry for all those who have experienced less than desirable service. I just thought that some considering a Thrive Market membership would benefit by reading the review posted on https://frugaltoolbox.blogspot.com. I feel the review could help someone who is considering a membership.

Bought one thing , they used my Credit card for an auto sign up . Canceled once online. Canceled twice online. Get a bill. Call up. Lady asks why canceled. I told her: Look I already canceled twice. Either you cancel me now or I will go to my credit card company change my credit card number and cancel transaction due to it being an unauthorized charge. We can do it now or I will do it with my credit card company. Then she tried to explain to me that Thrive sent an email on 10/13/2016 regarding a half off membership and what a good deal it was. I had to be like a total fcking b**** to get her to cancel. Asked for a email confirmation - guess what - haven't received it yet. AVOID AVOID

I had learned about this company through Facebook advertisements. They show adds providing free trials of healthy organic foods where the sample is free but you pay $1.99 shipping. That part is fine and I didn't have a problem with that. The problem started once I received an email from the company regarding their intent to charge me %59.99 for an "annual membership fee." At no time do they warn of this when signing up for the samples and once I was aware of this I went to their page to try and cancel the membership but couldn't find the option. A Google search on the topic pointed me to a FAQ's page of theirs. It listed an email address to contact regarding the cancellation. I emailed them and received a response stating that further action was required. It is here where they try to cut the "annual membership fee" in half to around $29.95 and ask if you still want to cancel. It then takes another two or three response before they finally tell you that it is cancelled but I have read reports online stating that they still bill the membership fee even after you cancel.

I use debit cards to pay bills online so if they take this fee out randomly, then I can no longer afford to pay my obligations.

I have filed an FTC complaint and I may end up filing with the BBB. In the process of the FTC complaint the form asked for the company phone number. I found it and tried to call it to verify that it was the proper number. I got an automated message stating that they were having "technical difficulties." Some of the complaints that I read about in my Google search were from 2015 stating this exact problem of not being able to talk to a live person. They responded by saying that their business growth was faster than intended by that they had doubled their member services help team. Here it is in 2016 and it seems they still have that same problem.

I created an account to purchase one item and then they charged me an annual fee of $60 a month later with no warning.

  • Oct 11, 2016

Stick with amazon or others these guys are a ripoff

Cancelled my membership 2 weeks after i made 1 order, 2 months later they charged my cc $59.95, they confirmed that i cancelled and said they will send a refund in 5 to 7 business days, that is unacceptable since i need that $60 now to pay for car repairs, this is theft, i will report them!

Thrive market is a site where i found a natural hair dye that i bought only once! after few weeks they decide to charge my card 60.00 for a membership i wasn't aware of, never a signed or agreed to anything like this! it was a one time order. And i was going to order again, had i not been scammed in this ridiculous way! i am beyond disappointed since my debit card is now overdraft because of them and they are charging me fees on top of it! thanks thrive market, you are very professional company!

  • Sep 18, 2016

Never got my item.

I ordered something, and they sent a nice confirmation letter saying my package was shipped. A few days later, I check the tracking number on Fedex and it says the tracking number is not valid. What? This is such a bad scam.

$59.95 Membership Fee?

I fell for the scam on Pinterest to get a free jar of organic coconut oil. It arrived at $1.65 shipping. So I placed an order for a few crackers and stuff. Today, I see on my Amex, they charged me a $59.95 "Membership Fee"?!!! How did I not know about a "Membership Fee" to shop? Uh... wow. It's a shame to think a company in 2016 would trick customers. Especially one that tries to be so trendy and cool. You can't cancel the membership online and you can't delete your credit card information.

Stay away from @thrivemarket www.thrivemarket.com

I ordered 5bars of soap and thought it was a good price. Then within or before 30 days afterwards my CC was charged $ 59.95. I was shocked and sent them an email with my concern and complaint. I haven't heard anything back so far. I'm sure they will send me a response some time or another with an excuse or validation of their charge.

Here's how to file a complaint with the California Attorney General

I would suggest anyone who is having difficulty with Thrive Market to fill out this online form with the California Attorney General.

Thrive Market’s address is 2920 Tanager Ave, Commerce, CA 90040 and their phone is: 866-419-2174.

https://oag.ca.gov/contact/consumer-complaint-against-business-or-company

So - this is still going on - here are excerpts of my three attempts to avoid a $59.95 membership fee. I finally had to file a complaint with the California AG's office to get it in writing that my membership has been cancelled. I also called my credit card company to have Thrive Market blocked and of course will check each credit card statement carefully.

From their website:

https://thrivemarket.com/how-it-works

2. Start your trial

With your first purchase on Thrive, you’ll start a free 30-day membership trial. See how much you save. Cancel any time.

Attempt #1 to cancel an automatic renewal of membership

July 18 – I submitted a request via the website to cancel my membership

July 18 – received this response from Thrive Market (excerpt)

I’d be happy to extend your free trial for an additional month if you would like more time to see all the exciting new products and deals that we have in store. This change is already reflected on your account.

However, if you’d prefer not to take advantage of this offer, please reply to this email.

Attempt #2 to cancel an automatic renewal of membership

July 19 – I email again confirming that I do not want an additional month and that my decision is to cancel the membership.

July 20 – I receive this email from Thrive Market (excerpt)

Before you go, we’d like to make you just one more very special offer: the price of $29.95 for the ENTIRE YEAR as an alternative. This discounted membership will allow you the same access to savings at half the price. This change is already reflected on your account.

However, if you’d prefer not to take advantage of this offer and discontinue your membership, please reply to this email and I will make that adjustment right away.

Attempt #3 to cancel an automatic renewal of membership

July 20 – I email the following:

If Thrive Market does not immediately confirm in writing that my membership is cancelled I will file a formal complaint with my state Attorney General's Office. My previous requests have not been honored, and Thrive is not following its own policy that states I can cancel anytime. Instead I am instructed again to please reply if I really want to cancel.

Enough!

I'm BEYOND angry! This company plastered their free promotional food item to be delivered for 1.00 or the cost of shipping and handling, has you register and enter a credit card for the "shipping" then has you agree to their terms and conditions (which I'm sure in very fine print it lists that it will charge you $60 one month later for NO reason) This is ridiculous! They put the charge through on a friday, so that by the time the bank catches it at closing time, its already too late to call and contest the charge... monday is Fourth of July!!!!!!

So tuesday I will be calling this place and giving them a ration! What a ridiculous, sneaky, greedy little lie that was. This company now has enough revenue from all the charges from unassuming customers who were looking to "try-out" the service... they have enough money now to do something with it and turn it into a profitable buisness from STOLEN money. They will have invested enough of it to turn a profit before it can all be "refunded" even if they allow the refund to happen- this company is up to FOUL business practices!!!!!

I actually got taken in by a scam by the startup Thrive Market. I paid $1.95 shipping for a jar of almond butter. A few weeks later, I notice that over $50 was removed from my checking account by Thrive Market. I realized I'd accidentally automatically bought an annual membership. I'm a journalist, and a couple of my clients are Fast Company and a credit consumer site. Only after I mentioned this did I see any action.

They issued a refund, and I received this email from corporate, in response to my telling them how shady their membership practices are:

Hi Tom,

I completely understand where you're coming from. We try to be as transparent as possible with our members, particularly at the checkout page. I apologize that you don't feel that this was the case, as it is absolutely not the type of experience we're trying to create for our members.

We do receive feedback regarding this issue and it is definitely something that our team is working on. Providing more clarity around the membership model is a top priority. I hope you understand that, as a young company, we are still working on such aspects.

We really value your feedback and thank you for taking the time share some of your insight and experience. I will pass this along to our team. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out and we'll be happy to assist you.

I went to order some products to make facemasks. As a little diy to a family member. More than a month goes by and i forget about thrive market until i go to order something and it says $60 dollars has been taken from my account. Leaving me broke. I immediately freak out till i look at my order history seeing thrive market without my permission took money out of my account because "i wanted a membership." this is insane i never wanted a membership and want my money back. This is ridiculous what if when my membership ends are they going to charge me another $60 dollars.

Thrive market is too not be trusted do not order anything from them!

  • Apr 28, 2016

I obtained delivery of products ordered on 3/31/2016. Order was on a trial basis Cancel membership or be charged $90 on your credit card. I had no complaint about the products received although they were expensive.

I canceled at [email protected] on 4/22/16. Requested no further charges to my credit card. I also called their phone. Membership extension rang for 10 minutes. No answer. I tried their other options. Option #2 a woman answered and said to call back later.

on 4/27/16 I called again and got no response. I sent another message to [email protected] requesting cancellation of membership and complaining about their non-responsiveness and lack of acknowledgement of my request. I have had no response and believe they intend to just charge my credit card..

They appear to either be a Rip0off marketer or they just have HORRIBLE phone service and communication. I advised them that if they don't attend to their communications system, they will likely go out of business.

Signed up for 30 day trial membership. Needed to enter a credit card. I used service once and was not impressed. I cancelled well within the 30 days. After 30 days expired I was charged. I emailed and called multiple times until I received a response ... and they still tried to talk me out of cancelling! Shady. They told me it would take 5-7 business days for my money to be refunded -- it shouldn't have been charged in the first place! Avoid at all costs!

  • Apr 5, 2016

Mark's Daily Apple added an offer from Thrive Market for Nutrition Bars fro free. Just pay shipping and handling.

After recevining credit card information proceded to charge for an annual membership of 59.95.

No where on the site did it mention that you would be charged for a membership, and no mention of a trial membership condition.

If it it exisited it was well hidden and disguised.

Unable toi contact for complaint or resolution.

I bought 4 food items on 2/29/16 from Thrive Market on the Internet (as a trial membership). I was supplied a FedEx tracking number, but no package was ever delivered to my home address in Florida. But the tracking number disclosed that the package was delivered by UPS and arrived in Batesville, IN on 3/07/16. Kelly, Member Services Ambassador sent me two (2) e-mails asking if I was 100% happy with my order. I replied both times I had never received the order and would Thrive Market, who already had my credit card payment, investigate and also cancel my trial membership. I have not heard from Thrive Market by 3/10/16.
