We first arrived at 8:30am at the Tahiti Village timeshare in Las Vegas. The crew gave us a light breakfast and immediately started selling the product to us. We said we werent interested, but they brought in a 2nd guy to come in and he showed us this book with all of the places we could "exchange" into "very easily- anytime." He asked us how much we made and we told him. He said they have excellent deals that day just for us. But we said we couldn’t afford it. The 2nd guy asked us about future raises and we said yes of course, we will get raises in the future. He said we could definitely afford it and that it would benefit us in the future because we would own property. The supervisor then proceeded to launch into a high-pressure sales pitch.

He went over the benefits of trading the timeshare. He produced a booklet and showed us many exotic places and said we could exchange into any of these places anytime and that they were always availabilities. He asked us if we like Mexico and he said there’s tons of timeshare resorts in Mexico that are very cheap and we could go anytime.

He also promised us a free 1 week vacation, but didn’t say to where; but that comes later. I said is it completely free? He told us, YES it is completely free. He told us that we could visit our unit at the Tahiti Village Las Vegas resort at any time. He also told us that if at any time we wanted to sell our timeshare, it would be very easy to do so. He also told us that people were always "dying to stay here all the time" and that the value would go up once the Raiders stadium was up. I later found out that all of these claims are false. Everything the supervisor told us seemed plausible, but money was still the sticking point. He offered us 10% down, with the remainder of the principal balance being paid off over the next 10 years at an APR of around 17% (If I remember correctly). When I pointed out that the interest rate was outrageous, he assured us that we could refinance the loan at any time. This was a false claim, as I later learned that banks and credit unions will NOT refinance timeshare loans. When I pointed out that we did not have any way to pay the down payment, he arranged for the payment to be delayed for four months. We still were skeptical but they brought us into another room and again told us that we can come to Tahiti Village "anytime" we want as much as we want. I even called to verify this with Bill (after the signing) and he assured me that yes, you can come here anytime you want.

Back to the story, I told them we couldn't afford it and they told us we could and that it's a great investment over time with the new Raiders Stadium coming up, and that we'd be homeowners. And get a big tax write off too. Needless to say, I thought it’d be great to own a property that appreciates over time. I thought it would make us look like we were homeowners and that we could go to Tahiti Village anytime we wanted because we paid dues there/monthly fees there. Bill and another guy I forgot his name made it seem like you can go to Tahiti Village anytime. And that was their exact words. ANYTIME. GO ANYTIME. They said the even years points are the ones you exchange to go to other places. They never said anything about high exchange fees. And the true fact that there is NO availability. He said we could rent out our timeshare very easily and that people are always wanting to rent timeshares. We were still hesitant. Keep in mind, we are already hungry and it’s already 3 hrs later. Then another manager came into the room and gave us this whole speel about being a timeshare owner is so great and so many perks. You’re going to love traveling anywhere you want to and profiting from the value of the timeshare as time goes by especially with the Raiders coming to Las Vegas. With that last comment about property value increasing, we signed the papers. They never told us that we could cancel the contract… later on when I got home to California, I called them to cancel at 7 days out but Bill said no can do. He pointed out that it stated in the contract that we had 5 days I believe. I looked into our packet and they had put it in the VERY back of our paperwork.. I mean the VERY back of everything.

They kept us in that place for hours. Told us they’d buy us lunch after we signed and after we signed, they gave us these dry sandwiches and chips. Big woohoo…. They lied to us about the tax benefits of owning their properties. Lied to us about availability and ease of exchanges. They lied about it being a sought after property. They scammed us into believing we’d be homeowners with big tax write-offs. Never mentioned that they could raise maintenance fees at any time for whatever reason they deem necessary. Their customer service is terrible-you have to call several times to resolve a problem and each time you call, the person you talk to never seems to know about your situation or previous calls. Worst of all, they lied when they promised that my high-interest timeshare loan can be refinanced. No banks will finance a timeshare.

Buying our timeshare was the BIGGEST mistake Alika and I have ever made. Tahiti Village misrepresented the availability of their own units, as well as the Internal International properties. They lured us with the promise of availability, and ease of exchangeI tried to be positive about the whole thing and said at least we have a free week to vacation somewhere. I go to look up the 1 free week voucher they gave us only to find that nothing is available and you have to pay exchange fees for this “free” trip. The exchange fees were a few 100’s$. He also said Hawaii is one of the locations you could go to for free. WRONG… well you could, but there’s never any availability. In addition to that, we couldn’t even log into the RCI website until 3-4 months after we signed. Due to “processing”. If I had that info from the very beginning I would’ve been able to see that there was no availability and high exchange rates. Also- the RCI website is very hard to navigate.

Tahiti Village took advantage of us and used our vulnerabilities to use deceptive high pressure sales tactics to take our money. Not to mention, they failed to say this would automatically go to my kids after I die. I can’t even begin to think of my own children having to deal with this mess. I know now that they can refuse it, but they would have to send In paperwork for that and that is such a tedious process that if I had known from the beginning, I would’ve never signed anything.

Back in january 2017, i made a reservation for a 14 day vacation at our timeshare we purchased over 10 years ago. Every year the timeshare seems to always have something wrong with our reservations, from non working electronics to wrong room requests. We have an autistic child that is very particular on her living arrangements. This reservation was made with my daughter and our griends daughter, who is also highly autistic, in mind and needed to be precise regarding the arrangements. Not only did i make it explicit online, but we also called 2 representatives 6 months in advance regarding these arrangements. I told these reps and online, that we needed tje top floor, facing the pool, snd s television that works (because the last few years the tv was not working or was barely operational. These reps knee our situation and guaranteed our reservation rewuedts, which is why i made it 6 months in sdvance. So we finally arrive here and the front desk said no rooms were available facing the pool, no room available on the 5th floor (they wrte giving us a room on the bottom floor, and said they couldnt guarantee a working tv. Six months preparing for our 14 day vacation with autistic children and they dropped the ball!
