Suburban Propane Partners, L.P. Reviews

  • Nov 5, 2020

After several years using Suburban Propane, we finally fired them. We had 2 tanks that were only used for emergency heating. Suburban required that we purchase a minimum amount of gas each year of they charge approx. $70, plus tank rental fees. When the delivery driver came he said there was no room in the tank so he could not aTNE WEEK. We refused to pay the "fee for nothing". Two weeks later they came and took the tanks, unannounced. Good riddance.

They were supposed to pay us back for the gas in both tanks. The way they calculate the refund is to give you a low-ball per gallon for the gas, then reduce that to almost nothing with more fees. This is as close to a criminal enterprise as you will see operating in the open. There are many options for obtaining propane gas service. Any one of them would have to be better.

We had a budget plan in place with Suburban.A few months into the contract, the budget was reevaluated.

They then made our payment over $300 per month than what it was supposed to be originally. I found out later on that this happened because they underestimated how much fuel we would be using. We don't use an astronomical amount of fuel, and just by using Google I was able to see that we used right around the same amount as the average household. If I can go on Google and find that out, then why can't the people who work there come up with an estimation that makes sense.

A difference of over $300 per month is outrageous. I make payments online, and neither the account dashboard or the "pay my bill" option indicates a current balance. You have to go into your transactions in order to see it. Our plan called for $150 per month and I paid $100 every two weeks, so I assumed that everything was fine.

So for a few months my account kept going in the negative because nobody alerted me that either our bill was past due or that our budget plan had changed. I called and when I found out that our budget plan had been changed, I cancelled our next delivery and told them that I would not be doing business with them again. I had been charged multiple late fees. In the months that all of this was going on, we had another issue and had called a few times regarding that.

At no time on the phone did any representative feel the need to let us (my husband and I) know that the account was overdue.

After all this happened, my husband's uncle, who works for the company, noticed that my husband was not getting the "friends and family" discount on fuel. Which we were supposed to have gotten the entire time. So we were told that it would be applied to our current balance. I called today because I thought I had paid it off and noticed we still had a balance.

When I spoke to the manager of the Albany Suburban branch (who I had spoken with many times previously), she told me that they would not be applying the discount, since we were choosing not to continue with Suburban Propane in the future. She said that when they were discussing applying the discount, she did not know that I would not be continuing service. That is a complete lie. Every time I spoke with her I made it clear that I would be done with Suburban once our contract is up.

I even posted a status on Facebook regarding my experience and the manager CALLED ME to ask me to take the post down. I told her that I wouldn't take it down and that people should know about my experience and about how Suburban Propane does business. In the post I clearly stated I would never go through Suburban again. So to be told that we should have been getting charged less for 8 months, but that we are not entitled to get that money back, is INFURIATING.

Don't waste your time here.

They charge way above every other company for fuel.

Not only that, but I feel that in all my interactions, this company has been shady and deceiving.I will NEVER go through them again and I will absolutely be warning any of my friends or family members who are considering them.

When I reached out to them and asked to lower the amount per gallon, since I'm retired and can't afford their prices I got a one time shipment for $3.60 a gallon. Since then, I have asked, via phone and emails, to talk to a manager or someone responsible for pricing and have have been ignored.

Suburban Propane in Oakhurst and Auberry, CA have threatened to remove my propane fuel souce tank because I have the temerity to question their prices and general business practices. They are (local managmen) are vindictive and punitive. Because I questioned their prices they became extremely hostile (screaming at me) because I protested the fact that they filled my 500 gallon propane tank without my permission or advance knowledge. It appears they do whatever they want to do in spite of customer wishes or needs!

The words"vindictive" and punitive are not simply loolely-used words. These people are truly hostile and vindictive. In fact, they need to be brought into court and forced to explain to a judge why they are so holtile and punitive. They have to be the singel worst propane company on the planet. When you become a customer they are all sweetness and light...but once a customer and you question their practices, you suddenly become a "problem customer" against whom they are perfectly willing to punich by threatening to remove a vital heating souce for a senior citizen living at high altitude where temperatures drop to below freezing this time of year.

They seem to think they are god's gift to propane suppliers and appear to believe that the are the only game in town so customers must accept their ahborent conduct just to be able to have much-needed winter heat!

Truly this company needs to be investigated for questionable busness practices and vindictive employee conduct! Having to explain themselves to a court would probably be helpful to those of us who rely on propane fuel for heat. Because I am almost 80 years of age and highly dependent on propand fuel for survival (I am also a heart patient) I MUST HAVE reliable propane service to survive at my moderately high altitude where temperatures quckly become life threatening without propane-provided heat!

Suburban Propane is probably the worst company I have ever experienced in my 80 years of life. Truly this company needs to be heavily sanctioned by the legal system for the atrocious business practices they do.

Accordingly, I plan to find and hire a replacement fuel supplier at the earliest possible time.
