Special Ops Moving Reviews

  • May 10, 2018

The Denver location should be investigated and someone should be arrested!! They have lost and damaged the majority of my parents belongings. Everything smelled like weed, box’s were opened and rummaged through. My parents just retired and moved to Arizona, Specia Op’s were supposed to deliver to her on Friday morning, after several phone calls, someone finally called her back stating there were “mechanical problems,” will be there Saturday morning, Saturday morning came and went, this time no one returned a phone call!! Saturday night they showed up, missing over half their belongings, and the mover informed us they didn’t even load the truck until 11:30 Friday night!! There were no “Mechanical problems”! After being told her belongings would be in a pod until ready to move, their stuff was just thrown in a wearhouse they didn’t know who’s stuff was who’s!! (From the movers) They load up guessing what might belong to that person!! The items that did arrive were severely damaged!! My moms 80 year old table and buffet were scratch very badly, chairs were broken, dresser looks like someone punched a whole through it! They say they are “vetren” friendly, my dad is a vet, my parents are senior citizens, and this is how they treat them?! They won’t return a phone call!! The “owner” Leo is rude, unprofessional, and aggressive! Scheduled a meeting with them for 5:30 pm He finally showed up 47 minuets late! All I can say is god I had a police officer with me, I couldn’t imagine his behavior if the officer wasn’t there.

I felt very threatened! If you value your belongings don’t use this company!! Read their reviews and look at the over 40 complaints filed with the BBB!!! Stay away, far away!!

DO NOT USE! CROOKS, These people took my deposit $710.00 after I changed my mind and went with another company. I notified them within 24 hours I wanted my deposit back. They would not give it back to me. Under Colorado State Law, you have 72 hours to cancel any contract. I did NOT sign any contract. I'm going to have to go to small claims court. Use All My Sons moving company 303-495-7600. Much cheaper. I am a disabled veteran that's why I went to this moving company. If I can save as many families from using this company. I would have at least some satisfaction. And yes I have read the review guidelines. If I could give it a zero star I would.

Worst moving company ever! As soon as they got here, I caught the scent of weed. It is legal here in Colorado, but that is totally unprofessional! I have no idea how long it has been since these guys may have smoked. They sent two skinny guys to move my 1000lbs gun safe from my garage down to my basement. Neither one bothered to introduce themselves. Being a military family, we have moved a lot. Never have we seen movers even attempt this safe with fewer than three men. I asked if there were only two of them and if they could move a safe this size. They assured me they could. I showed one of them the route through the house and down the steps to the storage room where we wanted the safe to be placed. He said it was no problem. I asked if they would prefer to go in through the front to avoid the steps from the garage into the house; they said no.

The hydraulic lift was straining with the weight just trying to get it up to the two small steps from the garage into the house.

They padded nothing (not the safe, not my doors, not my railings), and they struggled for nearly 20 minutes just getting it into the house, dropping it once and damaging the threshold of the door between the house and the garage. They stopped at the top of the basement steps to discuss how to handle getting it down the stairs. I asked if they had someone else who could help because I had never seen it moved with less than three people and that was on a flat surface. They discussed and said it would take too long to get someone else out here and that they would rather come back than wait, but finally decided they could do it themselves. They never asked me what I'd prefer, as though it is acceptable to leave that item in the middle of my family room.

Then these two guys began moving the safe down the basement steps without measuring. They got it stuck in the stairwell and couldn't get it down or up. They actually asked me if they could leave it there and take care of it "possibly tomorrow." Holy cow! They rested the safe by a corner up against my wall leaving a deep gouge and one of the guys put a hole in my wall with his elbow trying to brace the safe from below. Thank goodness I took down the pictures on that wall before they started. I called the main number for the company, no answer. I called the manager's emergency line and there was no answer. I left a voicemail and got no return call. Finally, the movers called to get help and nobody answered for them either. The manager and owner, Mike, finally called them back and spoke to me on one of the mover's phones. Mike never once apologized or offered a way to fix anything.

He wouldn't listen to me talk about how many times we have seen this thing get moved in the past, and he completely refused to acknowledge that his movers should have measured my stairwell first to ensure that they had enough room to maneuver the safe AND the dolly. He kept telling me how his movers are the best in the business and have moved three safes this size already this week, but they can't move walls. Again, I told him that if they had measured, they would have known it wouldn't work with their dolly before they got a safe STUCK in my stairwell. He asked me if I am a moving professional because they know how to move things. Unbelievable from a guy whose employees got my safe stuck. I was livid and told him that I hoped he had insurance before handing the phone back. Finally, the manager said he would send another person over to help get this thing unstuck and back in my garage.

For anyone who cares about veteran owned businesses as my husband and I do since we are both retired Army veterans, this business is NOT owned by a veteran. The current owner bought it from a veteran and clearly has no idea what quiet professionalism means.

The final straw: they never asked me to sign the contract before starting the work. After the damage, they asked me to sign a form that said they are not responsible for doors and walls. I asked them to wait until I could speak to my attorney. Instead, they took the contract and drove off. I called my bank because I wanted to know if I could stop payment on the deposit. While I was on the phone with the bank, the manager actually had the nerve to charge my card for the remaining contract amount even though they never completed the job as promised. The safe is back in my garage where it started. I was told that I would be asked to pay the remaining balance when work was completed and that I could pay with check or credit card. I was NOT asked to pay once the safe was moved back to my garage where it started and I did NOT authorize any further payments on my credit card. Manager/owner used credit card number from deposit and charged without my consent.

I attempted to contact the manager/owner directly after getting off the phone with my bank. He did not answer and I left a voicemail that I was angry and would dispute the credit card charges if he didn't contact me like a professional business owner to discuss. He has not returned my call. I have lodged complaints with the BBB and the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, which regulates moving companies here in Colorado.

Comments overheard by me and my children while they were here... "This is f***ed up. We shouldn't have done it." "It is hard to keep from laughing; she is really mad." "We can't get it out with just the two of us and it won't go around the corner." "I don't wait to wait for somebody else to show up, let's just do this. You think we can?" "My shoes are sliding all over, I can't hold onto this." "We put a hole is this lady's wall and I can't get behind the safe now. I'm not about to get crushed." There were more; it is all unbelievably unprofessional.

UPDATE: This company states that the customer is responsible for telling them what will or will not fit somewhere, not their crew. They further stated that they don't use the materials to protect property that they say they do on their website if it will get in the way. Of course, they didn't bring those materials out and attempt to use them. I find it ironic that the crew could supposedly look and determine if padding and floor coverings will prevent maneuvering in my home, but they can't look at a stairwell to determine if they can fit in there with their equipment. The registered agent for the business continues to make excuses for their actions and state that it is my fault that I didn't know the safe wouldn't maneuver in my stairwell. How could I possibly know this ahead of time? How could they not need to measure to make a determination before starting work? If they need to know such things in advance, then why don't they ask when you tell them stairs are involved? They have no answers to that. They are unprofessional on every front. I do find it somewhat humorous and definitely telling that they sent the same response to the BBB that they sent to me, except in the BBB response they actually added the words, "We apologize for the negative experience." It is too bad that they couldn't be bothered to apologize to me or take any responsibility for what happened.

First, I want to clarify that the crew itself was courteous and didn't stop working for even a minute despite poor conditions.

So apparently a lot of issues were caused by rain the day before. I understand (now) that rain-slick ramps are unsafe, but when they still had x number of jobs the night before and we were the first job scheduled the next day, they should have at least alerted us and at most scheduled more crew. Also, they wouldn't have been delayed by rain at load/unload if they arrived any time before 4pm. It would have also been nice to know that rain can delay a job, since we had to vacate the apartment the day of the scheduled move.

Aside from that, the poor guys were given an unusable dolly so - with most of the distance from door to truck being stairs - they went nearly twice as long as any of the estimates that I gathered. Again, I understand that it's an *estimate* but 6.5 hours vs. 3-4?!?!

With all of this, we're asking for a 2-hour discount ($176). We're willing to negotiate on that, but don't have the opportunity because they still haven't called back in 3 days even with us following up multiple times.

The beginning of August 2015, paid $100.00 deposit for a scheduled move on August 26, 2016. Quote was $1190.00. We were charged a total of $1900.00.

I was told by Jessica, that they only hired Veterans. During the couse of the day, the movers were asked which branch of the military did you serve in? We were told they were all recently out of prison. They said the company says that in advertising to market their services. The 3 did turn out to be very nice guys and worked very hard.

On the 26th of August they charged our bank card $1800.00. They received a total of $1900.00. When I called Jessica about it at the office, I was told it was only holding that amount and would not charge the account. The 27th of August, $1800.00 charged out of our bank account. Richard was put on the phone when I called. I was cussed and screamed at by him and then he hung up on me. When I tried to call back, no one would answer.

By this time our belongings had been removed from our home and put into their storage facillity at 37th and Revere St. in Denver, Co.

Trying to deal with the office manager Acacia was a on going nightmare. She was not prompt in returning any messages left. When I would finally reach her, she was very arguementative and condesending! We finally received a small portion of the over charge and the final amount was 1 month later when it was deducted from the storage fee. Even the storage fee was changed from $350.00 a month to $500.00.

In October of 2015, I was repeatedly calling wanting to remove our belongings from their storage location. I was told it would have to be their movers and we were not allowed into their facillity. By the time we were called back, it was time for rent to be paid again. That left us not being able to afford to move our belongings.

In January 2016, I showed up to the 37th and Revere location. Garbage was strewn everywhere. I found a "SALE" sign by the over flowing garbage by the door. The warehouse doors were open. Wood containers were left behind and open with contents in them. Wood containers were in the parking lot also, empty.

We had no notification that our belongings were being moved. I called Acacia's phone over and over, I sent texts with no reply as I sat in the abandonded parking lot on Revere St. After searching on my phone, I found a different number for Special OPS Moving and Movers Connection. When I called I was told out belongings were at 7-- W. 48th Ave, Unit G in Denver. I went over to that location and paid our storage bill. I was told by Acacia that we didn't pay October's storage fee. I brought her proff from the bank of all storage fees that had been paid with photo copies of the cancelled checks. I then made arraingments for January 25th, 2016 to remove our belongings.

When we arrived on Jan. 25th, 2016 to load the rental truck we had, 2 new movers were getting things from 6 containers. I immediately told Acacia we had more containers than that. She insisted that we didn't. The 26 foot truck was not full. Again, Acacia said when we moved in August a smaller truck was used. I called the mover Ivan, that moved everything in August 2015. (We used him and his 2 guys separetly from the company to finish our move in August 2015) He said he no longer worked for them due to always being cheated out of pay and that they were a dishonest company. When I asked what size truck they had he said it was a 26 foot truck. He said we had 13 containers. I told him they said I only had 6, he said I better get to looking around, I had more than 6. I asked where my granddaughters piano was, I was told I didn't have them move it. I told thm, there is the bench, and the bench went with the piano! One of the movers took me to a location in the warehouse and said, there's your piano...I told him it wasn't my piano, he tried ti insist it was. I told him I would knoe and it was the wrong stain color. Then I was missing my sofa, found it in a different area of the warehouse. When they said they were done, I was told we couldn't pull away from the dock without signing off on the paperwork. I signed and we left. They had no inventory list and were not checking anything off as the truck was loaded.

On January 26th, 2016, the truck was unloaded. 18 pieces of furniture was gone! Including a 500 pound Piano, a 300 pound antique walnut china cabinet, as well as other numerous heavy pieces of furniture. My veteran husband had a serious heart condition and this is why we hired movers and assured our belongings would be safe in their huge warehouse rooms. We were never told they would be in containers. After the inventory list was found and everything inventoried, we were missing 104 boxes as well. Thousands of dollars of heirloom family items, coats, clothes, boots, sentimenal items and other personal belongings were gone!

I went to the 7-- W. 48th Ave. Unit G location Wednesday, January 27th 2016. Acacia aknowledged the missing items and gave me the mediators information in Florida. I talked to Michael at that point also. He denied that anything could be missing! He was rude and the mediators in Florida was a JOKE! We were blown off and when we would finally catch someone to talk to (by calling from a different number) we were treated like we have no right to be upset with them! They have obviously "lost" our items!

I took a picture of the BBB Plaque displayed and contacted the BBB. They were only concerned about the plaque that had been revoked 2 years prior. NO concern for our items.

After 2 months the mediation company in Florida refused our claim due to signing off on paperwork, even though we were told we couldn't pull away without signing.

I contacted the Colorado Attorney Generals Office and recieved a standard email back that they would keep the complaint on file incase they needed it in the future.

I called Public Utilities Commission at D.O.R.A., they were absolutely no help at all. They said they do nothing about "lost items."

I called Precinct 1 Police station, they said they can't take a report on "LOST ITEMS!"

After unpacking and assessing everything that was missing, I went to file a claim in small claims at the $15,000.00 court. This was in April 2016. When I spoke to an attorney there to help with the filling out of the court papers, she knew of the 2 names this company goes by. She informed me they have had numerous judgements against them for the same thing I wanted to file on. She showed me a recent judgement awarded to a Insurance Company for $13,800.00 against Special OPS Moving & Storage and Movers Connection. This was awarded in March 2016. She advised me to file in the court upstairs, filing fee would be $225.00 plus $98.00 for a Jury and go after them! I told her I would now have to discuss all of this new found information of exisiting judgements with my hiusband. Why continue to throw good money after a bad situation? We haven't filed yet, we have 1 year. The attorney was surprised that the Attorney Generals Office and D.O.R.A. hadn't done anything yet to protect the consumers of Colorado against this company!?

I have contacted the News channels and haven't heard anything back from them!

This has been a overwhelming, heart wrenching, stressful and emotionally painful experience! Beware of this company!!!

Do Not Do Business With Them! There is No One To Turn To In Colorado That Will Help Or Even Cares!!!
