Prickly Bay Marina Reviews

  • Dec 11, 2015

Prickly Bay Marina Managing Director, Darren Turner is willing to use threats to enforce his unfair business practices. The pricing guidelines for the restaurant and bar (and probably the marina services) change from day to day causing customers to pay more than expected. No forewarning is given that prices have changed, you only find out when you get (short) changed and an explanation given that there is a new rule in effect.

Darren Turner’s attitude is that “Customers are taking the piss by using the facilities of the Marina” (Facilities such as electricity and internet are freely available to any paying guest). “Bills and staff have to be paid” which, justifies in his mind, the unannounced change in pricing policy. Presumably Prickly Bay Marina’s customers can pay up a few more bucks here and there to cover his costs even if they are surprised by the change in price or the addition of a price for an item than was previously included.

Instead of appreciating his customers and listening to their needs, such as customer needs to be told before they purchase that the price has changed, Darren Turner’s attitude is “like it or don’t bother to come back.”

I have heard numerous complaints from other customers at Prickly Bay Marina that they too feel ripped off by Darren Turner’s policies. A common complaint is the mistiming of the “Happy Hour” clock on the bar cash register. “Happy Hour” is advertised to begin at 5pm and end at 6pm. Yet, when drinks are purchased at 5pm the cash register is programed to still charge full drinks price which is often more than double the happy hour price. The register clock, and its effect on the price, only changes five to ten minutes after 5pm. Despite receiving feedback from customers about this, the clock still catches customers who unwittingly pay more than they need to.

I have heard that winners of prizes during the weekly bingo evening have not been paid out, leading to serious confrontations between Darren Turner and his customers.

Other reports of boats damaged on the dock at Prickly Bay Marina, where the fault for the damage lay with the Marina, have not been satisfactorily repaired or compensation given to the boat owners. They have only received empty promises.

Darren Turner profits from customers who take advantage of his advertised Sunday evening “Movie Evening” during which guests pay for drinks and food while watching publically screened pirated copies of movies. Darren Turner’s infringement of movie copyright for profit seems completely acceptable to him.
