Price Transfer Reviews

  • May 13, 2017

In November 2015, my wife and I moved to Costa Rica from Las Vegas, NV. Our furniture and belongings were shipped through Long Beach, CA and inspected by Price Transfer of Carson, CA under orders from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at Port of Long Beach, CA.

Within our first 6 months in Costa Rica, we were burglarized/ robbed 5 times, including a new 55 inch TV we had recently purchased for our wedding. At this point, we decided to move back to the USA. We informed our shipper of the reasons we were leaving and expressed concerns about exams by Port of Long Beach Customs and Price Transfer and could they do something to make sure we were not examined by them again. After all, we were returning with the exact same cargo we had before, minus the stolen items.

Suddenly, Price Transfer again notified me that I would have to pay them $1,865.46 for yet another second exam and they would hold our cargo hostage until I paid them.

Out of over 100 boxes, they opened only 3 boxes, as noted by the green tape they sealed these boxes with. All of the remaining boxes were still sealed with the shipper’s clear tape. I photographed these boxes as evidence. By Price’s own admission, this exam took 2-4 hours to complete. The contents of the 3 boxes were a box of my wife’s shoes, a box of old DVDs, and a box with an electric drill. This could have easily been verified on the original X-ray exam.

For this so-called exam, they charged me $1846.65! I pleaded my case to Price Transfer and my concerns fell on deaf ears. This was a totally unnecessary exam and I strongly feel they should reimburse me. As a result of their very high fee, I am being forced into bankruptcy and have to walk away from many companies that I have had excellent relationships with.

This company is doing very little work for an unreasonable fee. We are a retired couple whose sole source of income is Social Security. I also have photos of the shipping boxes that show only 3 boxes were opened out of approximately 100 boxes. I could have opened these 3 boxes in less than 5 minutes. So we were charged $1,864.65 for a 5 minute job.

I should mention that Price Transfer refused to answer many questions that I posed and told me to question CBP instead. They furnished me with phone and email for CBP at Port of Long Beach. I tried several times to phone Customs and every single time my call went directly to voice mail. I left phone messages which were not returned. I also emailed Customs to ask why my container was chosen for inspection, and again, my email was not answered at all. Our container number is SEGU5494857 and the Tracker #PX17008682. In short, I feel I was wrongly singled out for the extra examination (beyond the customary X-ray exam) and should be reimbursed. I also believe the various charges of Price Transfer should be reduced for all future customers.
