Preferred Law Reviews

  • Aug 11, 2017

On January 31st 2015 my father and I hired preferred law to help us get a home modification with our lender this is when we are verbally speaking with each other on the phone. They said that they can help get our interest rate lowered from 7.5%-3.9% and that our mortgage payment would be $398.00 a month and that we qualify for a modifications because our house was built in 1996 . My father and I was so happy to hear the great news that we wanted to hire them promptly and because they said the sooner we do hire them, the sooner we can get the modifications process going before the foreclosure process happens. So we agreed to hire them, but first they sent us paperwork for they're services and paperwork for payment plans, they said we needed to do this payment plan for an approval for modification. They said the payment is for our lender to see that we are trying to make an effort to save our house we are trying to do something about our situation with our mortgage payment being behind. The payment plan was for $557.00 a month for 6 months bringing it to a total of $3,900 and after we were finished with that first payment plan, they emailed me saying that was great we finished it and that we have been approved for the modification process and that my dad and I needed to fax over our bank statement and our utilities bills so that they can fax it over to our lender to start the process of modifications, than I gotten another email saying we were to start an initial payment of $298.00 month to $398.00 a month if I was late and they said these payments were for services and modifications. They automaticlly withdrew out of m bank account every month on the 10th using our credit card. I would email them occasionally asking about the modification progress and how it was going?!? they would email me back saying everything is going good and they don't anything else for now.

This went on for over a year from 2015-2016. Than on March 28th 2016 my father passed away me and him was doing the modifications together because I was the one living there and help took care of him. Well I told preferred law about my father's passing they responded back saying they needed a copy of my dad's death certificate and a copy of my executor of the estate certificate I faxed it over the next day. After they received the copies, they emailed me back saying that I would have to start the process of modifications over again except this time it would have to be with my mother. This news crushed me because now we've already spent lots of money during this process just to get approval which to me it seems like they weren't doing anything at all to begin with. So even after my dad has passed I still had to move forward with the the modification process during this time they were still withdrawing money out of my account I stopped them from withdrawing out of my father's account. The last time they withdrew out of my account was in February 10th 2017. I don't want their service anymore and want all of my money back because they have done nothing to help me get a modifications

They were supposed to negotiate. Found out later they did nothing at all. Made things worse. Took over $4000.

They informed me that the process would take approximately 6 months. My file was active for over 2 years. The person handling my file stated it was taking so long because the person who had previously had my file did not handle it properly. After my house going into foreclosure several times and having to declare bankruptcy to block the auction twice. I decided to just cut my losses and ask for the refund that is guaranteed, if the modification is denied, whiche mine was several times. I was informed by them today that, "due to the amount of work on my file" (work which provided no modification or prevention of foreclosure), they were denying my refund. That is 6,870 dollars. I lost my house. And now I don't have the only thing that would have made it possible for me to remotely land somewhere near my feet.
