Photo Attorney Reviews

  • Aug 29, 2016

This is why people hate attorneys

Carolyn Burns sued a colleague of mine (I'm not allowed to discuss the details) because she accidentally used a $50 piece of stock art on her website. This was indeed a mistake, but the amount of money these thugs demanded was so far and beyond anything that could possibly be considered reasonable they should all be disbarred for ethics violations. These thugs pretend to be "fighting for artists rights" but in reality they are just fronts for nasty stock photo companies who couldn't care less about artists and are merely exploiting the legal system to make a buck of shitty stock art that somehow got loose on the internet.

Vile, disgusting people.

Burns is a member of a group of copyright trolls called "photoattorney" along with Carolyn Wright. They claim to be acting on behalf of "artists" who have had their photographs unlawfully copied on the interenet. While this is a legitimate problem occasionally requiring legal action, Burns targets bloggers and small businesses who have accidentally infringed on photo rights in non commercial ways. These images are typically stock art photos which retail for $50-$100. Despite that price, Burns demands outrageous fees of up to $9,000 for a single incident and sends threatening letters claiming if that amount is not paid she will file a lawsuit for up to $150,000. Whether or not she's got any legal standing to do this is questionable at best.
