Some 11+ years back a friend introduced me to Pep. My friend had explained that Pep was looking for a business loan. I explained to her and then to Pep that I am not a bank or a loan shark, i do not loan out money! Pep explained the loan would be paid back within 30 days with 25% interest. Eventually i wrote him a check for $3k and on day 30 he repaid the loan plus interest cash in a paper bag.
He then came to me for $10k loan promising 30% to which i said no, no way! After working on me for some time we eventualy against my better judgement drew up agreements which both of us signed and had witnessed. I still have the canceled checks, signed agreements, every scrap of documentation, along with the judgement decided in my favor, i kept everything.
You know the rest. After he cashed the $10k check he stopped returning my calls, my emails went unanswered till i finally took him to court and easily won the judgement.
Since this was 11+ years ago interest has been compounding daily ever since and now he owes me around $16k+.
Every couple of years i make an attempt to contact him, reach out with messages, never a word of response. I've hired people to find him which they easily do but he doesn't pay. He's told people that he would pay but he doesn't.
11+ years back while waiting in front of his house one of his roommates came out and invited me in. This surprised me because previously they'd told me to get lost when they saw me outside. This time i was invited in because Pep had split leaving 3 months rent unpaid, this is what they told me.
I soon learned that this was how Pep operated, he was very careful to not leave assests exposed, no bank accounts, he operated under the wire so he could continue his financial cons knowing that the law doesn't help someone retrieve money on loans gone bad. For retrieval i'd need someone go after him attach his wages, bank accounts, sieze assests, whatever the law allows. I do not know the laws, i do know the law has been of no help to me thus far.
All those years back he made several clear threats. He explained that the people he knew were scary and could do me harm should i persist.
I've just extended the judgement for another 10 years so the interest will continue to climb and i hold out a small amount of hope that some day he'll want to make good although believe me, i am not holding my breath.
