ParaMed Home Health Care Reviews

I am dealing with a vexatious PSW worker who is currently coming to my home and incompetantly doing her job for my mother. My mother has been through 5 reconstructive back surgery, brain surgery, suffers from PTSD due to sexual, emotional and psychological abuse.

Winter of this year I had mom approved for personal home care through Paramed, as I understand it they are contracted out by CCAC. At first the support workers where good exept for one, which we where told if we did not like any single worker because it wasn't a good match, we are to call and say that we do not want them over. Which we did and this PSW never came back. Good!

My mothers' need for help at home was upgraded from 2 days a week to daily home care. This lasted for a few months. However recently my mothers at home care was cut back to 2 days a week for "government cutbacks". I called Paramed and asked to clarify this because it doesn't sound like the truth. Indeed it wasn't the truth. A PSW worker named Lynn started to claim that my mother was denying service which is flat out untrue. I have witnessed this PSW worker come into our house and complain to my mother about her knee pain / life issues which results in my mother feeling pressured to tell her not to worry about working. This PSW worker is sabotaging my mothers home care. So as I have done once before, I called paramed and told them along side my mother to not send this PSW worker over anymore because she threatens my mother ability to receive care. We didnt tell them that, we just said "Please don't send Lynn over any more please, she is not a good fit". We left a message because no one picked up at the time.

The next day Lynn comes back and that afternoon I call again and speak with the supervisor at paramed. Again, this personal support worker is making up lies to deny us care. I clear that up and I am told she will not be over again. Yet again the same PSW comes over. This time my mother calls Cody from Paramed (replacement for main supervisor who is on holidays) and we are told that she will NOT be coming back. The next day, Lynn is still scheduled and comes back (today). My mother and the PSW start to argue and I heard the support worker threaten my mother saying "If you don't get up then I'll report you are deying service". My mother explains to her that she has extreme pain in her back and without food to take her medication she cannot get to the washroom at that very moment. The PSW does not offer her anything to remedy the situation so my mother asks for a hot face cloth to do her own bed bath. She told my mom "If i get you a cloth i'm going to report that you denied service".

So here are my concerns,

1) this PSW is in my opinion trying to sabotage my mothers at home health care

2) This PSW "Lynn" is vexatious in her reports because she has a personal problem and/or doesn't like her job and is taking it out on my mother.

3) She displays abusive behaviours towards my mother

4) I have (and my mother) Have called on several occasions to stop this PSW from coming over due to this not being a good match and NOTHING is being done about it eventhough we have been assured this specific PSW will not be coming back.

5) Paramed is not telling their employees what dissabilities the client is experiencing which is causing confusion and unecessary behavioural problems.

My mother used to be the head geriatric nurse at the Penetangushene hospital and she used to be a PSW, nurse, head nurse of the ward and a capacity assessor. Now that life has delt her a poor hand and she needs help now the system (Paramed) is shamelessly making her life worse (at least in my case right now).

I am tempted to contact my lawyers about this because I have provided paramed with

1)Psychological report detailing my mothers psychiatric / mental illness

2)Doctors report over 22 years of medical history detailing her extreme physical dissabilities due to back surgeries and brain surgery

and still communication and management through paramed seems impossible. I am livid at how I need to fight for my mother to receive help and then have to fight for her to have continued help at home because of one bad PSW feeling like she needs to take out her anger on my mother.

I don't know what to do right now as I feel Paramed is ignoring my feedback and is doing nothing to rectify the situation.

I have told them at least 4 times now and nothing is being done. Communication through paramed is horrible. My mother is told that she is having service rolled back from daily care to 2 days a week because of "cut backs" when I (Her son) calls to find out the truth, i'm told it's because someone reported she denied service. There is something very fishy going on here and I am strongly demanding an investigation be done to Paramed and how employees are trained and how clients are treated.

I think that in this case, if the PSW and/or Manager were to have called me and tell me of the issues at hand I would have been albe to remedy the situation before my mothers service was dialed back and I'm not fighting to have her side of the story heard. This current set up you have doesn't allow for the family to retort. The merits of this PSW "Lynn" are very questionable.

For the past 13 years or so one of my parents has been a client of this supposedly so called home help company and though the results have been mixed it has been terrible. Despite having at least two, or more of their so called support workers(PSWs) steal various items including family heirlooms, jewelry and so on we also earlier during this year had one employee assault the aforementioned person resulting in not only a concussion but also seizures, and an infection, all of which contributed to recent hospitalization. Even with video footage of this same person looking for, as well as through the client's wallet from what we were told they were never actually disciplined.

Following the return home from hospital the aforementioned family member had a schedule aggressively shoved down their throat accompanied by little to no consistency. After less then seven days worth of service another incident occurred involving theft, however once again no actions were taken with this person would soon being back within one month.

When a meeting involving the appropriate parties did indeed take place it became nothing short of personal attacks, accompanied by numerous complaints & unsubstantiated claims made by staff. There was no apology given for prior employee misconduct, and as of yet there has been no follow up regarding disciplinary measures, instead they, along with CCAC are attempting to force an elderly person off of the waitlist for assisted living services.

In addition I personally know of one other person who has undergone similar nonsense including false accusations who is no longer allowed to be present during service. Their parent is also teetering on the verge of losing service because the support workers do not like them. I also know of at least one former employee who quit because not only was management terrible, let alone extremely condescending, as well as disrespectful and rude but they were also unable to obtain regular shifts.

My advice, read the online reviews first before getting involved with this company in any fashion.
