Buyer Beware

Not sure what came over me to pay $250 up front for an oil painting sight unseen but it will not happen again! Ordered a seascape painting by a French impressionist. Original has bright blues in the sea and sky and lighting of a bright but lightly cloudy mid-day. Painting I received looked like a stormy day near dusk. Dark cloudy sky with maybe 10% blues and dark blues in the seas mixed with mostly browns, a completely dull and flat looking painting with no sense of light. To top it off the frame is made of plastic and not wood plus it was slightly warped. After 10 days I can get NO response from oilpaintings.com staff.

When i first emailed oilpaintings.com they informed me that they could perfectly match my demand. Once applied, the color was not even close. Oilpaintings.com had me mail them a canvas sample, it took them so long to respond. Now i have to spend $750.00 to reorder from other art gallery. The worst is that after handling the painting from oilpaintings.com while trying to stretch it, my fingers turned white, see my photo, and i got abdominal pain and cramping so i went to the hospital. The doctor conducted a blood lead test and said that i had absorbed through my fingers over 10 micrograms per deciliter of lead. What a scam!! i will and would never recommend oilpaintings.com to anyone.

I spotted a painting online in the website oilpaintings.com I gave in to the temptation to buy it and did just that. However, when I received the painting I was appalled by the sub standard quality of it. On oilpaintings.com it looked very nice, classy and sophisticated. When I received it, it was drab and cheap. The workmanship on the frame was very shoddy. It was not aligned properly and had a tilt when put up on the wall. The frame itself was painted a ghastly gold color and looked like it was smothered by a can of cheap spray paint. I suggest that oilpaintings.com learn the meaning of professionalism. The painting started losing color and looked very dull in a few days time. I won’t be surprised if the paints used were low grade and substandard. There’s no way that painting is going back on my wall. Don’t buy from oilpaintings.com!

Last year in September,I ordered 4 paintings:2 James Tissot and 2 Botticelli. 1 Botticelli was done well, the other had minor discrepancies. The 2 Tissot paintings were done extremely unwell. One was in completely different colors than what i had ask for(black and white and not original color) . The other one was unproportional, with a face of the "drunken clown". After going back and forth between emails of two different upper management official, the company agreed to redo them for free and send it. After months of waiting and sending numerous emails, which were going unanswered, we pretty much gave up. After 7 months of waiting,I disputed the charges. Then, the manager/owner came back to me very fast promising to redo them(which was already promised 7 months prior). So again,I waited and waited, and no emails of any kind from anyone. One year after all this,I gave up once more. There was a huge lackof communication on their part to the extent, that it seemed like I was harassing them with my emails.

Fed up with all the excuses and delays,I told them to keep what they did.I guess, they do well with flowers or more requested Van Gogh,Monet or Picasso, but not with portraits.Their communication skills with their clients is horrible.

James Tissot's paintings are portraits with beautiful aristocratic faces of the ladies and children, not with people with huge clown noses and huge pop-op bug eyes.

I received 6 beautiful oil paintings from OilPaintings.com ! I am so pleased!

OilPaintings.com is the absolute best website to buy oil paintings! I received 6 framed oil paintings and the quality was so beautiful. I am so pleased! The frames are made of wood and are very substantial. I think all the other negative reviews were written by their competitors, because I had such a great buying experience with their company! Do not hesitate to buy from their website. You will not be disappointed!

STAY FAR AWAY

I purchased a Franz Von Stock reproduction after reading about oilpaintings.com and their “Museum quality reproductions”. It took about 6 weeks for the piece to arrive, which was expected; however, when it arrived there were MAJOR issues.

The artist was clearly unfamiliar with the work, and must have been provided with inadequate reference material, as the parts of the painting that were meant to be wings were instead other objects. I understand that a reproduction is not going to be 100% the same as the original – but in this case the meaning of the painting was changed by the inaccuracy. Instead of an Archangel, I received what I lamented to hear onlookers call “A homeless silver surfer” or “a naked guy with a boogie board”. This is because the wing was painted as a cylindrical object that resembles a wake board or a vase. Remember, this was billed as a MUSEUM QUALITY REPLICA. I provided them with images of the issue.

I informed them of the issue and was offered a printed copy of the image. The painting alone was 360 dollars. Suffice it to say a printed image is not a solution to this issue. I was offered no credit for accepting a printed image, and you can buy a framed printed image online for less that the cost of the unframed painting. They offered as well to have the painting redone; however, the painting was a house warming present and another 6 weeks was not an option. Not to mention my confidence was shaken.

Much to my dismay, I was told that I would have to pay the return shipping AND the inbound shipping if I wanted to return the item for a refund. I would have been willing to bite the bullet and pay to send it back, even though it was screwed up and I should not have had to pay, but it is completely outrageous to expect me to pay inbound shipping on top of that. I was told a manager would contact me. I was never contacted by a Manager.

I filed a dispute with PayPal, and still received no response. The company decided to be vindictive and make sure the full amount of time they had to respond had elapsed prior to responding. The case noted that I did receive the item and outlined the issues with it. This was not a case of buyer’s remorse or the customer being difficult. There was no reason other than pure vindictiveness for them to delay the process for the maximum period allowed.

If I could rate this experience, I would rate it an absolute ZERO. This company does not care if you have an issue and they don’t plan to solve it. I highly recommend avoiding them at any cost. If you have an issue, you might as well just file a claim because no one is going to do anything to help you. Their primary goal is to make returning any item so expensive and laborious to the customer that they have no choice but to keep it. Even if there are obvious problems and all communication is cordial.

Total ripoff!

I ordered 2 Monet's in April which they said had to be painted and would take 10-12 weeks. Received the paintings in July and previous reviews have said they look so amateur and colors did not match what I had ordered. Also the paintings painted in the wrong dimensions. I called and was given an RA # to return for a full refund. I fedEx'd the artwork back and 10 days after they received them still no refund. I called and emailed and was assured this would be resolved immediately. Five days late still no refund and no communication back. I sent an email requesting an update on my refund and did not receive a reply, I called and was told someone would call me back. Never did! I filed a dispute with my credit card company to get my refund. DON"T BE TEMPTED to order form these people.

Poor Quality

Just as many others have posted, the painting I received from oilpaintings was terrible. It looked like it has been done in an hour by an 8th grade art student who failed the course. Please do not waste your money on anything from this company.
