National Moving Group Reviews

  • Feb 9, 2017

I used them last year to move my son from CO to TX. The salesperson made a big deal that they were a carrier, not just a broker, but then assigned the move to a carrier that had lost their certification to operate. I didn't find that out until after the move when trying to get a claim settled.

However, this went badly from the start. The move was contracted (binding estimate) on the basis of weight. The salesperson, Zack Demo, said that NMG routinely overestimates the weight so that the final price is lower than quoted - no unpleasant surprises, he said. The carrier who picked up the load confirmed that he knew it was a weight-based job and stated he would have the truck weighed on the way to the warehouse in order to obtain a true weight. A couple of days later, when I called the firm to inquire about delivery schedule and to discuss the final price, I was told that it was a cuft based move and the price would remain as originally quoted. By my calculations, the load weighted over 1000 pounds less than the estimate - or about $500 less

While continuing to fight that fight with NMG, the carrier, A to Z Moving and Storage (DBA Denver Movers) called to say the load was scheduled for delivery. A couple of days later, my son met the truck at his apartment. As the fellows began to off-load the truck, my son pointed out that the items weren't his. It took some convincing, but the driver eventually agreed. It took over a week to get another delivery scheduled. This time, the driver and assistant rushed stuff off as quickly as they could, leaving many boxes on the front lawn for my son to take up the stairs to the apartment. And then they were ticked off because he didn't tip them!

I filed a claim (for over $1000 including damage, delay and overcharging) with the adjuster than the carrier directed me to, with all supporting photos, documents, etc. I was told that the carrier had up to 120 days to respond. About 3 days short of the deadline, the adjuster called me to say they were no longer servicing claims for the carrier and I would need to contact them directly. However, the phone number they gave me was for another moving company (with similar name). I tried calling the numbers that were printed on the various lading and related documents, but they had been disconnected. The adjuster said there was nothing more they could do.

I then researched the carrier on the DOT web site and found that their certification to carry household goods had been revoked prior to the move. I called NMG and spoke with someone in customer service who asked that I email her the documents, which I did within minutes. She said it would take a day or two to review and get back to me. I never heard back from them. Repeated emails went unanswered. Phone calls were answered, but with a response that someone will get back to me - which never happened.

This company is a scam in terms of their pricing promises and unprofessional brokering services. They do not stand behind their own contract, hold the carriers accountable, or handle problems. In fact, their "after hours customer service" phone only got me to a recording, not to the promised "live person".

Don't be fooled by thinking a contract will protect you. Use a reputable firm with strong reviews.

National Moving Group never does anything wrong, according to them, but in reality, they do nothing right.

I'm just piggybacking on to all the other dozens of complaints with the same story: Low ball quote to lure in the customer along with many false promises and failure to disclose significant issues. Then, they take a deposit and you're trapped.

Our story was an initial quote of $5,500, which increased to $8,000 the day before our service (when we gave them another deposit) and then finally increased to $13,700 the day of our move. Unacceptable. And National Moving Group's response is "Sorry, no refunds, nothing we can do, you signed the contract, which states there are no refunds if you don't use the service." They tell us it's all our fault that the price increased by that much when we went over a detailed inventory list over the phone the day before the movers arrived. And we initially were told that someone would be with us physically to ensure the inventory list was accurate. That didn't happen. It was a very very long phone call where we described each piece. We did not misrepresent our inventory and it did not change overnight.

This business does not appear to be legitimate and they are not helpful with any resolution to service issues; they just continue to deny any wrong doing and point the finger back at you - it's your fault and you signed our legal document so, too bad.

I'm working hard to connect all the people who were wronged by this business to ensure that this will not happen to anyone else. Please go to the BBB (where they have a rating of F) and review the dozens of similar complaints and please do not use this company.bbb.org/south-east-florida/business-reviews/moving-brokers/national-moving-group-in-boca-raton-fl-90113540/reviews-and-complaints

I contacted the company related to moving some of my personal items from Menlo Park, California to Morton Grove Il. Initially there were 10 medium boxes, i cabinet, 10 dining chairs, 1 dining table and 2 coffee tables. The quote given to me was for $1,751.82 and i was to pay $602.86 which i did. A few more items were added and the estimate went up $2,163.92 and the down payment increased to $853.92. I paid the differential in the downpayment of $251.06 for a total payment of $853.92. On the pick up date the driver refused to honor the contract and stated that it would cost nearly $5,500 to move the goods as in his view the goods to be moved had increased. I refused that as there was no increase in the goods to be moved. Since i refused to pay any additional amount from the originally contracted amount the driver left and the moving company refused to give back my initial deposit. They later offered to give me back 50% of the deposit which i refused as I want the full amount. This is a classic bait and switch operation.

This company never disclosed they were brokers, I can make a phone call myself. I was charged $530 for a simple recommendation, it took the movers 14 days to get our furniture and we had to sleep on the floor. How do we stop this company from ripping off other people? Is there any way for people to get their money back. They took everything from me financially.

I don't know where to begin. I decided to use National Moving Group about 3 weeks ago.

My moving coordinator, Brandon, was clearly a salesman but initially seemed ok. He told me he was going to be my moving coordinator throughout the move (from NJ to FL).

As it turns out, this company is a scam and Brandon is a liar.

He told me they were a moving company, NOT a broker. (A 5 star moving company, at that!) He literally told me HIS company is extremely busy with moves all summer, trying to pressure me to sign with him right away. National Moving Group isn't even a moving company!

He promised me that the estimate I was given is binding and that I won't pay a penny extra for things many other moving companies charge for. FLAT OUT LIE. The estimate changed, and I was charged for extra items time and time again, like the stairs and packing tape.

He told me the movers are amazing and get paid $30/hour. (flat out lie, how could he possibly know that, considering they aren't even from the same company!!!) The movers are not well paid and essentially work for tips.

He promised me that regardless of the cubic square footage, I would be charged PER POUND. He told me the software they use almost always overestimates the weights of certain items- for example, my queen mattress and box spring do NOT weigh 455 lbs, but that is how the software inputs it and it cannot be manipulated. He told me the moving truck would be weighed before and after my items were placed on the truck. He promised me that because of the overestimation, I'd likely be paying LESS than the original estimate. When the movers came yesterday (06/28/2016) imagine my surprise to see they were not from National Moving Group at all. Beyond that, they do NOT charge per pound, they charge by cubic sq feet, and the move wound up costing me $400 more than the original estimate!!! Brandon promised me multiple times that it was per pound, they use a calculation including cubic square feet, but at the end of the day, it truly is by pound, and that I'd more than likely receive money back once it was weighed because I was under-weight.

-I called National Moving Group while the movers were there and Brandon quickly transferred me to another man who told me he didn't understand what the problem was, as I explained it to him over and over again. He eventually just started laughing at me and saying "I don't know what you want or expect". I told him I wanted to speak to Brandon, and he informed me I would not be speaking with him again as he no longer has anything to do with my move. So much for being my coordinator from NJ to FL, another lie!

-I was told the company does not charge for the first 21 steps. Turns out, they charge after the first 7! $200 for steps! Unbelievable. I only have one flights of stairs.

-I was told that packing tape is free (it's in my contract with NMG) and I was charged over $250 in packing supplies.

-I knew I was responsible for half of my remaining payment at the time the movers came and I wanted to be prepared. He told me to have with me the credit card I used to put down my initial deposit. The movers then told me they only accept cash, check, money order. I was notified of this at 6:45 pm, unable to run to the bank or post office.

Brandon, one of their sales rep, talked an amazing game, promising the most incredible move, NO EXTRA CHARGES, constant contact between my move from NJ to FL, incredible customer service from a "5 star moving company". He is nowhere to be found now!

I am truly sick over this. The lying and dishonestly has to stop, this company should be shut down. If you check them out online, you will see very similar reviews, many MUCH worse than mine.

Please trust when I say that this place is a joke and go with a reputable mover like Mxxxxx or Uxxxxx.... In the end you will end up paying the same and your items will be delivered, picked up and shipped in one piece with an accurate price from the beginning.

I called back in April and received a quote of my stuff, I talked to Chris and even emailed him our conversation to make sure I understood correctly. I was originally quoted $2k and at the time thoroughly explained what was coming..... Items in a 5x15 storage unit, plus additional items from a 2 bedroom apt...... Instead of listening to me, the customer..... He severely underestimated my belongings and quantity of items so when the final inventory list was given the number of items was double (as I tried to explain to him in the beginning) when he kept telling me I was "overestimating" the quantity of items and their cubic feet and weight. I explained I would rather estimate high than be in a situation in 3 months where the price doubled (as I've heard of that happening then people are stuck) he was so nice and helpful at the time and said "that doesn't happen with our company".....I've never talked with Chris since he took my payment as everytime ive called there is some excuse, his phone extension is acting up..... He's out sick..... He's been in the hospital with an upper respiratory infection.... Etc.

Well low and behold, I've been calling for over two weeks to update the inventory and go over the final details and Jenna was supposed to call me back.... After two phone calls today I spoke with Todd who is a manager in the QA dept and guess what?!? My 2k quote just came to over 8500k!! Surprise surprise..... Todd knowing that I was upset told me how Chris, who I originally spoke with was incorrect in telling me the cubic feet was the issue and it goes by weight and supposedly my stuff went from 3000 pounds to now over 9000 so my price QUADRUPLED. Apparently some extra boxes, a few dressers and an air compressor weighs over 6000 pounds!!! Who knew?!?! Meanwhile they have never come out to look at or estimate my items, I've done ALL the legwork and they've got over $1k from me I will never see. I called Mayflower and explained the situation and got ahold of a manager there that not only was extremely helpful and explained that these practices are common with "brokers" who basically steal your money and most of the time do not even deliver your goods on time or in one piece if you're lucky to receive them at all!! After looking at reviews online I am NOT the only one this has happened to and seems to happen frequently with this company!

The reality is I could've called the company transporting my items directly and not even dealt with National who did nothing but steal over $1000 from me basically...... It's a $1000 mistake on my part to learn, please don't make the same one as me and go with an honest and reputable company from the start, one like Mayflower who will come out from the start and give you an accurate estimate and not charge you a dime until your items are packed, shipped and unloaded safely at their destination. THAT is how a REAL AND REPUTABLE moving company is SUPPOSED to work! Now I have to fly across country at the last minute, take time off of work and haul my own items across country with U-Haul because of all this..... Not to mention I work nights and have spent ALL day on the phone scrambling to make it come together at the last minute...... Meanwhile those who have stolen over $1000 from me can only say "I know you are upset over your price more than doubling but respectfully maam, you doubled your items." So moral of the story is explaining to their estimator what I had and him underestimating to give me a low ball price which caused my items to double.. Quadrupled my final price.

We contacted this company for a move from southern Il to Northern Tenn. I spoke to Tom a few times before we decided to go with them. I explained I need my stuff picked up on 11/7/15 and delivered 2 1/2 hours away. After they took our deposit of $600.00, they explained we would have to have 2 Cashiers Checks made out, 1 for when they loaded for $500.00 and one for $500.00 when they unloaded.

They promised we would have 4-5 men come, pack up our stuff, wrap furniture, take apart furniture and then when deliverd, unwrap furniture, unpack and put furniture together. Well...only TWO dirty men in a dirty old truck showed up. Up until the day of the move, we did not know if and when they were even coming? I have records of 57 phone calls in 5 days. Names, times and conversations. They give you BS stories, don't return your calls. It was a nightmare! After 2 days of screming and yelling to find out when they were coming, they send a totally different trucking company than the one we had the cashiers checks made out too!

They were NOT going to take my stuff...luckly they were nice enough to contact the trucking company the checks were made out too and they agreeed to pay this company. They did not have to pack my stuff, wrap my furniture or take it apart or put it together. It got to the point the coward men from National Moving would not even take my calls. The poor girl who answered the phone each time had to listen to me each time i insisted on speaking to someone. Had to hold for 15-20 minutes before they knew I wasn't going away.

We called them 2 weeks before the move to let them know they forgot to put the King size bedroom set in the contract, they said no problem..they would update in their system Guess what? Never did. The trucking companies charge you .60 cents for every pound your over?? And..they want payment before they unload. Gee...wonder how many times that happens?? I am making it my project over the next year to make sure this company does not do this to anymore people.

Wow, I dont know where to began. My father called National Moving Group too move his belongings. Well that company is a broker. They called Sky Van Lines INC who then met with my father and they seemed great and nice..... Well they over charged my father to move his belongings. Then they said it was gonna be here on a certain day. that certain day came his belongings were not here. I called Both companies National Moving Group and Sky Van Lines,. Both companies had rude employees who hung up on me. Not only did they hang up on me they also could not tell me where my fathers belongings where. Not only could they not tell me where his belongings where there were 10 other families belongings on the same truck as my fathers belongings. My father was not informed about that. My father was also charged an extra 1000 dollars then what was estimated. These companies need too be repermanded for their bad business and taking advantage of customers. We dont even know if his belongings will show up.
