The Language Exchange site tells you - through deployments and even a NY Times citation - that after a few contacts through email you will find language partners to practice the chosen idiom. But it simply doesn't work. After becoming a Golden Member (they charged me 6 bucks a month for that x 3 months) and sent about 20 emails, I didn't receive any answers so far. When I first contacted them, the founder and webmaster told me to contact at least 5 more people. I tried, it didn't work at all. Another contact, and the guy told me to give his system a "fair chance" and contact at least 10 more people each time. I gave him another shot, contacted 10 more people with not a single answer after almost a month. For the third time, I contacted the webmaster, and now he's telling me to contact at least 40 people each time. What??? The system clearly doesn't work, in spite of the justifications of the owner. Furthermore, waste your time to contact 40 (!) persons each time to find a single partner to talk with is faraway from the initial promises made initially on the site. The owner is quite resistant in reimburse my money, so I felt totally bamboozled.
Thanks for posting. Wish I'd seen this prior to joining as a Gold Member. Spent time sending out emails - and no one responded. Only email I got were "hi" s from random/dodgy folk.
Shame - as the basis of Language Exchange is a really great thing. Why do companies have to prey on people's wanting to learn !?
You get literally no guarantees. Most people are just lazy idlers who will never reply to you and there are a lot of free websites with the same functions. Save your money.

I have no idea what the exact problem is, but my guess is that most of the profiles on the website could even be bots.
