Long Fence and Home Reviews

My experience was similar to others with a stupid mistake. I was trying to get a quote so I could have an idea from multiple companies on window pricing. I had 1 quote already from another company. I called Long Windows and was surprised they had someone available that evening. He arrived exactly on time and started with this power piont presentation on how great his company is.

I just wanted a quote but when he finally got to the quote it was insane 19000 for 10 standard double hung windows. I said "wow that's alot". We went back and forth a few times and worked it down to 15,000. Still way too much. I also needed 2 sliding glass doors changed to french, since they have a door department we looked at what they had available for that. He danced quite a bit about how difficult it was to fit because my sliding doors were smaller that usual. Huge waist of time I already knew that. Finally he gave the a door quote after calling the office a few times 12,000 (on top of the window price). Again I suffered from sticker shock. That was when he started talking to me about finanacing options and looking for a signature. So I asked how long is this quote good for. He seemed confused. I told him I needed to think about it I can't make a quick decision about that large of an expense.

So he took some off. I repeated that I need to think about this. He took more off. Again I told him I need to think about this, I can't make a decision. Understand at this piont it was after 9pm I'd been up since 5am, I was tired and hungry and wanted him to leave. I should have said that but I didn't. I kept saying I needed to think about this. After some time he gave me a quote for 16000 for 6 windows and 2 doors. Still more than the other company but coming closer. except 8 of my 10 windows absolutley needed replacing. So he reconfigured the price and it came to 17500. And I mention again I'd been up since 5 and it was almost 10 and I was alone in my house with a man who wouldn't take the hint when I said I needed to think about it. I gave in I signed. I instantly regretted it. He produced 1 electronic write-up that showed 17500 as the total and 2 paper write-up(1 for each door) also both totaling out to 17500. My heart was racing I didn't want to sign anymore but he had told me if I change my mind I could cancel within 5 days, Its a law. and I felt a bit threatened at this piont. So I convinced myself I would think about it and if I still felt bad about it I'd cancel within the 5 days. Finally all the paperwork was done and he finally left.

I didn't sleep that night, I looked up a few things on the company I looked at the papers I signed thinking things just didn't add up. I just had a sinking horrible feeling that I had just made a huge mistake. Not only was the price way to high, I just had no trust for this company that wouldn't allow me think this over. Things were not itemized I had no idea how he came to the number 17,500.

After a night of not sleeping I woke up and printed out the cancelation letter. I stopped by their office and delivered the letter in person because I wanted to be sure it was received. I even brought a witness with me. A woman came out first, I explained what I was there for. She went back and got the sales person who had pressured me the night before. He continued to pressure me. I explained that I had repeatedly told him I needed to think about it. He became agressive with my witness. A manager came out to the front of the office and stepped in. Still the sales person flung insults at us as he was directed to leave the situation. So I spoke with the manager outside. He accepted the letter and initialed it and copied it as I had asked him to. The manager was at least professional. I now wait to see if there will be retaliation from the angry sales person.

I have no idea if their company has a good product or not, I just know based on my experiece and what I have read of others that they have a corporate culture problem. I say to Long Windows You are likely losing business because of these sales tactics, You need to reeducate your sales people and change your estimate policy. A free estimate ends with "so give us a call when you make your decision, this estimate is good for . I hope we get your business" smile, shake hands and most importantly leave.
