Back in april of 2015, i was hired on to drive for steve douglas long who owns a trucking company in lima, ohio caled long's specialized transport. He told me that i would be transporting exotic cars from naples florida to customers in ohio. He said that he would pay me $3.00 per mile deadhead to naples from his yard in lima, ohio which is approximately 1,200 miles plus the cost for each car upon delivey in ohio. All i had to pay him was 12% of the load for using his authority.
Well, i did 7 runs for him. And after each run he had all the excuses in the world as to why he was unable to pay me. Paperwork not turned in, checks from customers not cleared, bank issues, etc... At the end of the 7th run, i had used all o my money for fuel and expenses in excess of $9,000. I told him that i could no longer run for him until he paid me. He then told me to drop of his trailer at his yard in lima, ohio, give him back his credentials, prepass, sunpass, and the copies of all the runs i did for him. He then told me to go home to virginia and he would pay me within one week. It has now been over a month since i droped off the trailer. He doesn't return my calls, in fact he blocked my number. I sent him a cetified letter detailing all my runs and the breakdown of pay. He owes me over $12,000.
Upon doing research on this guy, i have found that he has a long history of doing this to the drivers he has hired to run under him. He has previously filed bankruptcy with his other trucking companies because of lawsuits filed for non-payment. I have contacted the department of motor carriers and they said that they can do nothing for me. They told me that i had to hire an attorney and prosecute him independently.
Who has dealt with this fraud & con man, please contact me so that we can put together a class action law suit against steve d. Long. This fraudulent business owner should be shut down forever & he also needs jail time. I would hate to see any other driver go thru what i and others have.
