Lincoln College of Technology Reviews

  • Aug 14, 2015

Just like the title says, if you're gonna talk big game then you need to back it up! I recently attended Lincoln College of Technology in Nashville, TN, biggest waste of time and money I've ever seen! I called the recruiter that visited my ag class my senior year in 2012 and had him set up a time we could meet and talk about the school. Once we started talking about the school I was intrigued but also surprised at how much the price had changed in just 2 years. In 2012 the school cost 22,xxx dollars for the automotive program and in 2014 the price had went up to nearly 40 thousand dollars! He quickly assured me that I could take out student loans and it'd be no big deal! I wouldn't have to start repayment for 6 months after school. I was still slightly interested and when asking about the campus he told me that it was beautiful and clean and I should hurry and set up a time to go your the school! So I did.

The day I went to tour the school I was very excited because I had been imaging what it'd look like from how the instructor described it to me. I'd say he must be blind, on arrival I was nearly afraid to get out of my car much less leave it in the parking lot locked or not! The school is down in a hole! It was run down and looked like it hadn't been updated in 50 years! Everything around the school all the stores and houses were run down and just nasty lookin! That should've been my first sign to run! I gave it a chance and went to find my tour guide. He took me to all the different sections of the school and showed me all the different programs tent offered. When I asked about the automotive with high performance (which is what I was intending on taking) he told me it was the best program in the country! I wanted to go into the nhra field and be a mechanic for top fuel dragsters and he told me I'd have absolutely no problem acceding in that field by going to this school and taking that program! This had me won over, I quickly got over the location and the looks of the school. I signed up! Biggest mistake of my life!

After moving into my off campus housing, which was also a huge rip off! 4 guys, two rooms and the apartment was tiny! And the charges up over $500 a piece and the apartment complex we stayed at rented the same apartments for less than $1000. Two weeks after I started attending the school I started to notice that around half or maybe a little less of the students I encountered were ex cons or drug dealers, and thugs. This made me pretty uncomfortable. The instructors weren't the brightest bulbs in the box. My electrics instructor had never even taught that type of class and after nearly every student going and complaining all we got was "all of our instructors are more than qualified to teach any class on this campus!" Yet a large majority of that class just barely passed and myself along with a few other failed. I had also gotten a chance to talk to the "high performance" instructor who told me that I didn't need to waste my money cause that class wasn't worth the extra 3k they charge and that the school has nothing and has never had anything to do with nhra mechanics. This made me furious because that's the only reason I came to the school. I went to every "high up" person at the school and told them what had happened and all I got was a "oh well I'm sorry about the miscommunication." Wanting to leave the school and tell them where they could shove it I felt I had no choice but to stay because I had already payed then a butt load of money!

Going into my 6th class or as they call it "mod" I ran into some financial hardships and had no choice but to drop out of school. I had talked with the dean(which has already quit/got fired) and was told that because I technically had only taken 5 classes because I had failed one it didn't count. So I should owe them hardly any money if any at all. I'm think how would I owe you money when my loan covered it all? WRONG! I got calls starting like 2 weeks after I left and had moved back home that I owed them 8,xxx thousand dollars yet they couldn't tell me why. I mean I had to quit school because I couldn't afford to be there yet they want to charge me nearly 10 thousand dollars?? So I just kept ignoring them and ignoring them and they would call as early as 5am and as late at 10-11pm and even on Sunday's. Even tell me to pay or else they'd make sure it ruined my credit! I told them when they could tell me why I owed them then I'd see what I could do.

About a month later I get a paper that shows how I "owe" them. I was charged a 2nd tuition which I wasn't supposed to be charged for, they said that they had altered it so I only paid for the time I was there the second term, which technically I was because I was technically on my 5th class not my 6th because I had failed one and the didn't count it. So It shows I owe almost 2 grand for 2 weeks of a class I had to quit in the middle of cause I couldn't afford to be there and they charged me almost 6 grand because I dropped on the middle of a class??? Like how the hell can you charge someone that can't afford to be there 6 thousand dollars for having to quit? This has got to be illegal in some way I mean they have killed my credit score! Which they said they'd make sure was ruined if I didn't pay them! I mean I have no idea what to do, i have no incom and yet I have these people calling me and my family every single day harassing us and I'd pay them just to leave me alone but I can't afford it and I feel like what they are doing has got to be illegal in some way!
