LES is the collection agency that Transurban, operator of the 495 express lanes. LES claims I owe $300 dollars on top of my unpaid tolls because state law allows at maximum $100 per violation so long as the cost is reasonable. I have yet to see the cost be reasonable. I asked for an itemized break down of why the fee is $100 per violation and they flat out refused to provide it. The name also implies that I have broken the law and must pay or face criminal penalties, when that is not true. Them charging the maximum amount of administration fee per violation is a scam and failure to pay this extortion will result in credit history problems. If I were to take them to court to fight this extortion, it would cost more than the fees themselves, so I have no choice but to pay.

I owed a total of $19.85 for 5 unpaid toll violations. I have a transponder and have had it when the unpaid violations occurred. I had lost my CC and I updated the ezpass website a few days later. So, yes I am guilty of missing a few days. a few days totaling $19.85 .Now I am facing a $100 per transaction, so a total of $519.85. I have called and asked them how they can assume that this is a reasonable fee per transaction and how this constitutes to be fair in the FTC, Fair Depth Collection Act which they claimed it was fair and that they would be so courteous to knock off 25%. They charged me over 26 times the amount I actually owed. doesn't seem like they were being so courteous, nor fair. It's ridiculous that this crooked, thieving company is still around with a joke of a name such as Law Enforcement System.
