He starts by emotionally manipulating a woman who he meets on match.com or other dating sites to be his girlfirend and elope with him if he can get that far. Along this path, he gains the trust and support of her and her family, while telling them the most sensational stories about how he's a poor victim, a strong man, a hopeless romantic, a fierce protector, on and on about his alter egos and identities backed by completely fabricated stories. Once the trust has been gained, he uses the financial supprt and resources to set up camp with the woman.
He makes a new business, finds a name that he saw on the internet or talked with by calling, twists the truth of it just a little bit as he does everything, gets a domain, sets up a credible looking website, does marketing on facebook, groupon, google, and other means, while enrolling the help of anyone he's lied to and duped to believe that he's just trying to support his family.
When unsuspecting victims come into contact and get his schpiel, he baits them with a fake offer of funding their project, investing in their business, contributing to their deal... and to do that, he asks for a deposit, earnest money, retainer or initiation fee of as much as he can get, ususally within the thousands to get started.. then never comes through on his end of the bargain.
But wait.. there's more. He also then is already prepared from the start with excuses and stories about why he couldn't fund them.. has a heart attack, or cancer or some health ailment, some disaster or trauma he needs to attend, no matter the story, it's just a smoke screen to distract, cause people to not want to hear it and not pursue him, or try to get the party to default themselves somehow so he can point the finger at them, discredit and do anything it takes to damage or destroy them so they wont pursue him.
