K&B Transportation, Inc. Reviews

  • Oct 11, 2018

On September 10th, 2018, I applied online with K&B Transportation. At the time I was employed at McLane Southwest. Prior to McLane I spent 5 years or so at Cocacola pushing a dolly and busting my behind.

So after 6 plus years of 12 to 14 hours of physical work everyday I decided to take a job over the road, to sort of let my body rest and recover from the grueling day in and day out grind of your local Delivery job. Not to say that over the road jobs are easy, but im pretty sure we can all agree that local Delivery can be more physically demanding than over the road Delivery.

So after much consideration, after talking to my wife who suffers from lupus, we decided to try out K&B Transportation. I went ahead and started the hiring process with Jeremy Bartolo. After previous employers had been disingenuous with me, I decided to make a sure I understood what the offer was, and any strings attached.

Jeremy Bartolo ASSURED me that my first check would be $2250, $1000 for Orientation, plus a guarantee of $1250 for the first week, not only that, they pay for my flight up to Sioux City. SOUNDS GREAT, right? So I thought to myself this is to good to be true, I had to get it in writing, but then I realized they are advertising this deal so surely they wouldn't be that stupid to perpetrate fraud out in the open? Right?

So after my talk with Jeremy Bartolo and more consideration with my wife, I decided to pack my bags and see what this was all about. So on September 20th 2018 I recieved instructions and flight info and away I went, orientation was September 24, 2018 at 7:00am. Once orientation started, the omitted information starts to come out.

Turns out it's not a guarantee, it's more of an agreement to pay you 2500 miles a week if you meet their demands. It's always funny to me how people will try to manipulate language to suit their indignation or purpose, and oh how they justify it. After hearing their demands, I didn't think they were asking for too much, but it I did feel like they had enough stipulations to create a scenario in which they could simply not honor their agreement at any time based on the agreement, and boy did I find out the hard way.

After day 1 of orientation I had mixed feelings. I didn't like the fact that Jeremy Bartolo told me that I was going to get the guarantee for the first week, yet he was in front of the class telling everyone that we would only get paid what we drive for the first week plus our $1000 orientation money. I dont like confronting people in front of other people, I'd rather pull someone aside, so later i asked Jeremy Bartolo why he told me I would get the guarantee the first week, and he flat out told me he never told me I would get it the first week.

I was upset but didn't want to go back and forth, so I just let it go. After orientation was over it was time to pick up our tractors, off to the yard. Prior that I was told by Jeremy Bartolo that I would get a 2017 and up Freightliner. I was handed the keys to an old tractor with 792,000 miles, with a straight face.

That tractor Couldn't get off the yard, so I called in and reported it, I was told to put in a request and the mechanics would fix it. I spoke to a mechanic who told me the wait time could be a day or two. I then proceeded to call in and ask for another tractor, the supervisor called me back and sounded annoyed that I had the audacity to complain about a tractor with 792,000 miles, so they proceeded to give me another old tractor with 482,000 miles on it.

We met our dispatchers the same day we got our tractors, my dispatcher was Darwin, he seemed like an ok dispatcher, we seemed to be on the same page. I got my first dispatch and off I went. Driving over the road was a great change from what I was doing for the last 6 years, adjusting to the job was easy.

After 7 days over the road my wife wasn't doing too good, she wasn't adjusting to well, so I decided to see if I could get routed home to see if I could straighten out the situation. I called Darwin and explained the situation, his tone and his demeanor started to change from the first time we had met, as if he was disappointed, he said he would try to work something out.

He proceeded to dispatch me to Ohio, I live in Texas. After that I pretty much decided that I couldn't drive over the road while my wife was at home dealing with her lupus. After it was clear to me that K&B Transportation wasn't going to work with me, I started applying other places locally.

I then called Darwin and told him it wasn't going to work out, i was having issues with my wife and couldn't drive over the road anymore, he had zero empathy and I felt like he just didn't care, he told me he was going to have to talk to his supervisor and call me back. He proceeded to call me back and lambast me about another company I had applied to, he was so quick to insinuate that there was nothing wrong with my wife and I was making the whole thing up just to go to that other company.

After I told him how I really felt about him and K&B, they then began to route me back to Sioux City. After 3 days and picking up and delivering 2 loads for them I finally arrived at Sioux City.

At this point I had only been working for them from September 24 2018 to October 4 2018. According to K&B Transportation, they pay weekly, but another fact that they omitted until you get to orientation is that they hold your paycheck for a week. My understanding is that they again create scenarios where they can dock your pay if they feel like you did something wrong.

So being that it's my second week there I wouldn't get paid till the third week. During orientation Jeremy Bartolo told us if it didn't work out, K&B would pay for your bus ticket home, but he omitted yet another fact, and that is they will pay for your bus ticket home once they are satisfied with the conditions of their property and the way that you're leaving.

Also, once you quit and drive back to the yard you're there until they feel like addressing you. I didn't stick around to see if they would take pity on me and maybe pay for my bus ticket after they decided to see me, which may or may not take days. I called Jeremy to tell him I wasn't going to wait around, I had to go, someone else answered and told me if I wanted a bus ticket home I had to wait.

I told him I was going to just pay for it myself, he said ok and hung up. On October 4th, 2018, I called a cab from the yard and just paid for my ticket home. Once I got home, after settling in, I decided to call K&B to see how much and when I was going to get paid.

After speaking with Darwin he informed me that my check would be mailed to me and it was for $32........$32.... I couldn't believe what I was hearing, I asked for an explanation, He said I took out alot of advances, i then proceeded to tell him how much i took in advances and how it was way below the $1000 dollars I was told I was going to get for orientation.

He then proceeded to tell me that I wasn't going to receive the orientation money, I asked to know why, he said he didn't know, i had to talk to the recruiters. I made a phone call to the recruiting office and Sean Barragan proceeded to try to justify why they weren't going pay me the orientation money, and how I "lost money" for the company.

I proceeded to just hang up on him, the sick feeling I had just thinking how there are companies that do this shady behavior and still sleep good at night. I later learned that by signing all their waivers, it pretty much makes everything they do legal in their state, which is even worse, government sanctioned fraud in my opinion.

So its Friday October 12th, 2018, still no check, still no detailed list of how they came to $32, nothing. If you're a driver, beware of this company, just remember, knowingly omitting information just to suit your agenda is still lying. God speed.
