When the bill for the Cares act passed in December, a provision was either left out or added that allowed the IRS to take your stimulus check for back taxes. The IRS at that time assured everyone that they would NOT do that, especially to people in the vulnerable population such as low income seniors. Well they lied. Even though my husband was on a payment arrangement with them for 2 years they took it. They perpetuated a lie from December saying they couldn't find him although they have no problem sending him a monthly bill and had his direct deposit information from the first round of checks. Then they told him to file a tax return for 2020, even though social security has been his only form of income since 2018.

They assured him that this was the way to get the stimulus money, never once saying they were going to take the money. He owes around 700. 500 of it because of the Obama care penalty for not having health insurance in 2017 when he lost his job. The new company did not pick up his benefits until 2018, and we could not even afford Obama Care then. Our household income is only 180% of the federal poverty level for 2021, so he more than qualifys for a waiver for the Offset Bypass Refund from the IRS. That information we just found out after he filed. The waiver has to be approved before you file, and since its so rare, difficult to get approved.

Of course you cannot get through to the IRS now, so the frustration mounts with each day. I have emailed the white house, my congresswoman and senators in Nevada, CNN, msnbc, several news outlets, but to no avail . if this 3rd package is passed without the proposal that stops the stimulus money from being taken by the IRS, the same thing will happen again, to more people, but I guess none of the people I tried to respond to me care.

Let's face it, the IRS is not only the most ruthless government agency, but they are the most ruthless collection agency in the world. They claim that I owe $6,000 more in taxes than my the 1040 perpared by my tax preparer says I do. But when I call the number on their letter, I get put on hold and no one ever answers the phone. While you are holding, they constantly play messages urging you to go to their website to address your issue. But when I do, it won't let me set up an online account because I don't have any credit cards in my name, mortgages, or car loans. This is very oppressive to lower income classes (which I am not), because many people with low income do not have any of these. When I call their general "customer service number," I get put in an endless circle of voice mail prompts, with no option at all to speak with a live person.

I knew I was going to owe a lot of tax in 2017, but I dispute the amount that I owe to the IRS. But I can't get in touch with the IRS to dispute it. The IRS is an incompetent, bloated government bureaucracy that has accumlated far too much administratve power. The founding fathers did not have thise in mind nearly 250 years ago.

I work for a publicly traded Fortune 500 company. If my company conducted business in the manner that the IRS does, the Securities and Exchange Commision and Attorneys General for states all across the country would be breathing down the company's neck. The IRS gets away with it because they are the government. They have nearly unlimited power to make your life miserable and sieze everything that you have worked your whole life for. My tax accounting professor at Western Kentucky University in 1986, Dr. Charles Hayes, said way back then that the IRS wants the tax payers to be confused and frustrated, because then they will just give up and pay what the IRS says they owe. I was not that cynical in 1986, but I am now. Screw the IRS.

For weeks I have been trying to file a request for an online payment plan. It doesn't work. Don't bother to call them. I was on hold for 3 hours and when somebody finally answered, we were disconnected. I tried another time and gave up after waiting after 2 hours.

I tried filing online 5 different times and it always errors when I press the submit button. When filing online, every entry I have made is accepted so there is nothing wrong with the information I have added but I always get an error when I pres the Submit button.

The error message says to call for technical help. Help is not available on weekends and only usable from 7 am to 7 pm on weekdays. Nobody ever answers. Filing online has the cheapest filing fee. No wonder it never works !!! Filing on the phone - forget that; you're on hold forever and you will never be able to speak to anybody.

Filing by mail is the only way to file successfully. At least, I think I will be successful. I will be trying it tomorrow. But the filing fee is the highest of the 3 choices. In other words, the IRS does not let you contact them, does not fix their website, and the US taxpayer suffers by having to pay a huge fee for something that should be free to do.

My wife received a call that IRS is after her and local police will put her in jail by tomorrow if she doesn’t call back this number.

To whom it may concern: I received a telephone call from supposedly Jean, Nevada and in a voice mail they left they wanted me to talk to a bogus IRS agent at telephone number 484-900-0991 in regards to a serious IRS matter. They are saying that is their last attempt to contact me before to they hand it over to the court magistrate. This is unwanted harassment, because I don't pay a federal income tax since retiring in May 2010 and haven't dealt with the real IRS since my back tax liability that I was responsible from since tax year ending December 31, 2010.

  • Aug 12, 2017

I received a recorded phone call from the Internal Revenue Service asking me to call them immediately regarding back taxes. When I returned their call, I was transferred to an agent who asked my name and proceeded to give me his spiel.

The agent informed me that I owed back taxes of a considerable amount and if I didn't make arrangements to pay the taxes, I would be prosecuted and would more than likely go to jail. I then asked him what years did I owe? He informed me that I owe from 2010-2016.

I very rudely interrupted him and informed him that first of all, the IRS doesn't make phone calls and that he was committing a fraud which I would inform the IRS and Attorney General's office and don't call me back. Beware of this phone number 202.499.5066

  • Jul 15, 2017

The number 929-259-3107 calls and the automated number states that there is a fraud case against you by the IRS. There is no way to get your number off of their calling list since it is automated. Something to note is that the IRS will NOT contact you by phone for any reason. Their form of communication is by the United States Postal Service. Hopefully this number can be blocked permanently.

Leave it up to low-life scammers to take full advantage of any natural disaster! these psychopaths have no shame or remorse. The irs is issuing a consumer alert about possible fake charity scams emerging due to severe flooding in south carolina and neighboring states.

Scammers will impersonate charities to solicit money or phish for payment information from unsuspecting, well-intentioned victims. They often set up phony charity websites or even spoof Falsely mimic) a legitimate charity’s website to lure potential donors to give money on their spoofed website. Or worse, they’ll send an email or text message that contains a link to make a donation. That link will likely contain malware! Really bad stuff on your computer or smartphone) these creeps even solicit victims via social media, by mail or at your front door, claiming to be affiliated with legitimate charities

Also be aware, that many legitimate charities often spend most of what they collect in donations, on their own salaries and administrative costs. So, before you give up your hard-earned money, ask for written information, showing how much of your contribution will actually be going to help those in need. Telemarketers who are affiliated with these charities often work on commission, so some of your donation will go directly to the telemarketer.

Tips:

Never give or send cash. Pay with a credit card, but don’t give out your payment info - unless you’re 100% sure that the charity is legit.

It’s better to go directly to the charity’s office or enter the charity’s name directly into your browser, so you know the wesite is the legitimate one.

Many fake charities will use names that are similar to the names of legitimate charities, so do your research before giving money.

To check out a charity, go to www.Charitynavigator.Org or www.Charitywatch.Org or check to see if they’re listed as an exempt organization at www.Irg.Gov
