Indie Birth Reviews

  • Aug 15, 2016

We'll start by saying my son and his wife had a bad birthing experience at a hospital in LA 3 years ago when my grandson was born. When my daughter-in-law, E, became pregnant out here in AZ, they decided they would like a home birth using a birthing pool. After researching the internet, they came across the Indie-Birth website run by Maryn Green. Her belief was that a birth is natural and she does not believe in hospital intervention.

We drove to Sedona to meet with her. I asked her if she ever had a mother in labor need to go to the hospital. she said no. She said how hospitals will force a C-Section if the baby is late in being born or if labor is too long. She believed that birth is a natural function and labor can indeed last longer than average or the baby isn't always ready on the due date. She was anti hospital intervention.

This was what my son and his wife were looking for.

The first strange thing came when she told my son that I gave her bad vibes and didn't want me involved. Why? Because I asked questions?? Her price was $4000, but she would lower it to $3200 if they would make the 3 hour drive to Sedona. She made it down here twice in 6 months. Each visit whe would use a fetal scope for the heartbeat and would often say, "The baby must be facing the wrong way because I don't hear anything."

In about the 7th month Maryn threatened to drop my son and his wife because she felt they didn't "communicate" enough with her. What??? She also wanted the complete $3200 in order to continue. My son paid her the whole amount.

When E went into labor, she texted Maryn to inform her of the length of contractions and how far apart they were. Maryn texted back saying to let her know when they were 5 minutes apart and she would head down. Well, not so. Maryn and her sidekick, Margo, decided to head down anyway. E was still in early labor so Margo and Maryn decided to go out to eat and go shopping. They came back to the house and just hung out and slept through the night. The next day E's labor pains were coming quicker and more intense. Maryn listened to the heartbeat and put fear into my son and his wife by saying that the heartbeat was up to 160 and the baby was in distress. She said they must go to the hospital and drove them there. She also advised E to get an epidural. Umm, isn't that hospital intervention?

The hospital staff listened to the heartbeat, said everything was fine and 160 was very normal during birth. Maryn refused to enter the hospital. When she was informed that everything was fine, Maryn was already on her way back to Sedona and refused to come back.

Now my son also had a hospital bill. Maryn thought it was terrible that my son would think about the expense while his wife was in labor. Add insult to injury, when my son suggested they refund some money seeing as they never delivered the baby, Margo had the nerve to say "No. We were there 24 hours!" Wow! being paid $3200 for a days work while I was shopping? I want that job!!!

To anyone looking to the Indie Birth website and thinking Maryn is the answer, think again. She comes across so flowery and woman empowering, but she is nothing more than a fraud and hypocrite. Took our money and dropped them at the hospital. See ya later, Suckas.
