To whom it may concern,

I strong urge anyone considering acquiring a burmese kitten to look elsewhere and not support Marilyn Jean Glover at House of Burmese Cats. I cannot attest to the quality of her kittens as I never received one, but based on my experience with her as a person I would not be confident to buy a living creature from such an unethical, dishonest, and irresponsible individual.

When I first contacted Marilyn about potentially adopting one of her kittens, she was extremely responsive. She was available for every phone call, responded to every email within the same day, and constantly bragged how her kittens were puuurrfect. She asked no questions about my background and seemed to care very little about who I was, despite her website claiming they do thorough audits on their clients to ensure the well being of their kittens and to not be offended by any indepth personal questions. Additional redflags were raised as I started asking her questions on how she cared for the kittens and what they were fed. Her recommended vitamins and supplements are also nothing more than pure advertisement revenue for herself with a promo reference code when buying them online.

In my excitement and before recognizing all the redflags, I hastily made a deposit to her through paypal. She specifically told me to use the personal transaction option instead of the business purchase option since they charge a small fee. DO NOT DO THIS. Paypal has a special protection for business purchases and you will be happy to have this when dealing with this scam artist.

About a month after I made my deposit, I contacted Marilyn for a refund on my deposit. I've been in close contact with her throughout this time and know she has had no new litters in the time I made my deposit and this request for a refund. Under her policy page, she states she might keep part of the deposit to cover expenses used to raise your reserved kitten, which I admit is fair. However in my case, there were no kittens even born yet, and the subsequent litter did not even contain a kitten that I expressed interest in. Needless to say, I felt entitled to a full refund and requested as such, and Marilyn AGREED to paying me back. This is where the trouble starts.

She starts by saying while she would like to give me a refund, she had JUST spent all her funds. I don't understand how an individual can deplete ALL their money like that with no reserve, but I'm not here to judge. She told me she was expecting more deposits next week and will pay me back asap. Next week comes by, nothing.

I send her an email politely asking for an update. No response. I attempt calling her several times. No one picks up. I send another email sternly asking for an immediate response, and surprisingly got one. However, it was another excuse about how she still doesn't have any funds, how being a breeder is feast or famine nonsense, and had the audacity to try to sell me another kitten that I was not interested in. I told her no thanks and expressed I simply want a quick refund at this point.

Several weeks roll by and I have still not received a refund of any kind. Any attempt at calling or emailing her is met with no response. I eventually decide to call her from a different phone number, and lo and behold she picks up! Before I can even muster a word, she nervously gives me every excuse in the book on why she has not returned my calls or emails, saying she's been sick, busy, and that her computer gave her virus/spyware warnings on my emails so she was afraid to open them, etc. I didn't even accuse her of anything, why is she acting so guilty? She also clearly has my phone number remembered. She proceeds to tell me every sob story about all the disasters that have occurred in her personal life and how she has had to use any available money to remedy them. Then gives me the same old speech about how she still doesn't have funds but as soon as she gets more deposits in she'll pay me back.

Repeat the above scenario a couple more times. No refund to be seen, any attempts of contact through email, phone calls, voicemail, etc is met with no response. And once again, the one time I call from a different phone number, she picks up. Gives me more sob stories about how her house is hit with a tornado and she had to spend money on more personal issues that are irrelevant to me and kittens. She gives me the usual run around about how I'll get it "next week". At this point I have lost all patience and demanded a definitive date. She said "definitely next week". No, I want a specific date. So she said to "be safe", let the date be X day. I confirm with her that by X day, I will guarantee to get my money? This is where she gets hesitant and starts saying she's not promising anything, and that she "should" or "hopefully" will have my money by then.

I very directly told her that I truly do not believe she has any intention of paying me back, and I am tired of being strung along and if I did not receive the money by next week like she's promising, then I would be forced to start taking legal action. This is when her true colors finally appears. She gets EXTREMELY hostile, starts insulting and cursing me out, and telling me she doesn't care what I think and if I can't accept what she's telling me then too bad, and that I should "do what I need to do", and promptly hangs up on me.

In my final conversation with her, she claims that I should expect a check in the mail next week. Really? How? Never in my entire time dealing with this woman have I given her my address. Her lies are extremely shallow. During this whole ordeal, not once has she tried suggesting maybe paying me back in small amounts little by little, or anything a genuine and honest person trying to pay someone back would do.

It has been roughly 4 months since I sent her a deposit and I still have not received my refund and have had no contacts with her since.

Marilyn Glover is a scammer

Almost exact same thing happened to me. I contacted Marilyn Glover regarding purchasing a kitten from her in May 2017. As in previous review, she was extremely friendly and responsive in the beginning. I too gave a $350.00 deposit thru Paypal and was also told to use the "Friend/Family" option so I would not have to pay fee. So I sent her the money using that option as well to be put on waiting list for possibly a kitten from a litter that was due to be born in June, no guarantees. I was looking to purchase a kitten for my daughter's birthday in Mid-July. Prior to contacting House of Burmese Cats I had contacted another breeder (my first choice) and had not heard back and I really wanted a kitten by mid-July so I went ahead and placed deposit to be put on waiting list for a kitten with House of Burmese Cats.

A couple of weeks after I placed deposit with Marilyn Glover I finally heard back from my first choice breeder and she had kittens already born and would be ready the week I wanted one. I then contacted Marilyn Glover about returning my deposit because I changed my mind about purchasing a kitten from her. Her first response was to tell me about a car accident she was in and though it was not her fault she had to pay for damages and she remodeled her kitchen and went over budget so she was relying on the remaining cost of kittens to recoup her cost. I responded by saying how sorry I was to hear about her accident but I needed my money back because I changed my mind about purchasing kitten from her. Kittens were not yet born and in previous conversations (before I requested deposit back) she could not even guarantee I would receive kitten in the June litter because of the size of waiting list. In my mind I only reserved a spot on waiting list not an actual kitten so there should be no issue in returning the money. She was out of nothing. Marilyn Glover felt very different than I did. She started telling me how awful a person I was, I was a liar, a cheat, etc. She went as far as to mention her "attorney". I assume that was used as a fear tactic which I did not fall for. I told her to give me her attorney's contact info and I would take it up with him/her. She refused saying she would never waste their time for such a small amount of money.

Over the course of several weeks I went back and forth with her. At one point she offered me a refund of $250 which I declined. She then offered me $300. I conceded to a refund of $300 if she refunded my Paypal account within 24 hours. That did not happen. After 48 hours I started asking where my money was. That went on for a few days until she finally replied that she had computer problems and could not respond to me sooner. She told me that Paypal sent her a check in lieu of crediting her account (which is a lie, Paypal gives you options and does not automatically send a check). She told me that she did not use personal checks so she would mail me a money order. I gave her my address and several days (and emails) later she finally responded that she had been sick but had mailed my money order that day. I waited a week and of course never received anything. I tried calling several times with no answer (sound familiar?)

I went into Paypal and tried disputing charge but since I used the "family/friend" option it could not be disputed. I did find out that the buyer NEVER pays a charge. It's the seller that is charged for normal transactions (another lie from Marilyn). I then figured out I could dispute the transaction by using the "unauthorized transaction" option. By doing this it froze the $350 in her Paypal account (remember when she claimed $$ was not in her account because Paypal sent her a check?). This of course instigated a response from her. Needless to say she was less than pleased. She claimed she mailed me a money order for $250 and that she had it in writing that I agreed to a $250 refund. I told her that I never agreed to $250, I conceded to $300 but had not received a thing from her so I was taking action to get my entire $350 back from her. She responded by saying that this was not worth her time.

Paypal issued me a temporary refund for $350 while they investigated. I called to speak to a Paypal representative so I could explain why I dispute transaction the way I did. When they found out what she was doing they told me they would be investigating her account and would possibly close her account because what she was doing was fraud. Not sure if they did but they did rule in my favor.

The almost same thing happened to me that was posted on this website jan 2016. I contacted marilyn jean glover at house of burmese cats in may 2017 to purchase a kitten. I wanted a kitted for my daughter's birthday in mid-july. I was told she was expecting litters in june and july. I had reached out to several other breeders the same time i contacted house of burmese cats. I had not heard back from my first choice breeder and i was worried i would not be able to find a kitten in time so i went ahead and let marilyn know i would put a deposit down to be added to her waiting list. She could not guarantee i would get a kitten from june litter so i was still a little anxious that i would not even be able to give my daughter a picture of her new kitten for her birthday. Marilyn told me to send $350 deposit to her paypal account and to use the "family/friend" option so i would not be charged a fee. I had never been charged a fee before using paypal but i also had no reason to think she was being untruthful I later discovered buyer never pays fee only seller).

A few weeks after putting down deposit my first choice breeder contacted me. She had available kittens that were already born and would be ready for pick up 2 days before my daughter’s birthday, perfect!! i then contact marilyn requesting my deposit be refunded because found a kitten from someone else that would be available within my timeline. Her first response was to inform me that she had recently been in a car accident and though it was not her fault she still had to pay for damages and she remodeled her kitchen and went over budget. She was relying on remaining money from sell of kitten to recoup her cost. I responded by saying how sorry i was to hear about her accident but i still needed my money refunded. She continued to refuse refunding my deposit and started getting hostile calling me a liar, a cheat, etc. She even mentioned her attorney. I’m sure this was some sort of scare tactic which i did not fall for. I simply told her to send me her attorney’s contact information and i would speak directly with them. She told me she would never waste their time with something of so little money.

She then offered me a $250.00 refund. I refused and she then offered me $300.00. I conceded to a refund of $300.00 if it was refunded to my paypal account within 24 hours. After 48 hours i reached out to her again asking about refund. After a few days and as many emails later she finally responded that she had been having computer problems. She told me that she did not have the money in her paypal account because paypal sent her a check. She did not use personal checks so she would send me a money order. I gave her my mailing address and waited. After several days i reached out to her again asking when money order was sent. I emailed her every day until she responded that she had been sick and had mailed money order that same day. I waited seven days and when i received nothing i started calling her. Of course she never answered my calls.

I then went into paypal trying to figure out how to get my money back. I could not dispute the charge because i used the “family/friend” option like marilyn told me to do. I finally figured out i could dispute transaction by using the “unauthorized transaction/fraud” option. Apparently when i did this it froze the $350.00 in her paypal account The one she had told me did not have money in it). This of course instigated a response from a very irate marilyn. She called me a thief. Told me she had in writing that i agreed to a $250.00 refund. I responded to her that i never agreed to $250.00, i had conceded to $300.00 but since i had yet to receive anything i was taking action to get my entire deposit of $350.00 back. She called me a few more names and even suggested that my daughter was not a good person She is 6 – really!!). Even though i really wanted to throw a little mud back i stayed professional and calm and held my tongue. She finally said this was not worth the effort or time.

Paypal issued me a temporary refund while they investigated. I waited until date they said it would be resolved and when i checked my account refund was still listed as temporary as they were still investigating. I then called paypal so i could explain to a representative why i disputed transaction the way i did. Paypal was less than pleased to find out what marilyn jean glover was doing. By telling her customers to pay her by using the “friend/family” option she was not only robbing her customers of the buyer protection paypal offers, she was also cheating paypal out of the service fee she should be paying them for this service. I was told they would investigate her account and would possibly close it due to her fraudulent activities. Not sure if that has happened. They also ruled in my favor and permanently refunded my $350.00.

If you are one of her victims contact paypal like i did.
