Heart, Artery, and Vein Center of Fresno Reviews

  • Aug 20, 2015

My complaint is about misdiagnosis for heart failure after being poisoned in a restaurant causing heart damage.

I went to keothip restaurant at 3757 w. Shaw ave. In fresno on january 15, 2015 for lunch. My mom had invited me there to try the food for the first time and i ordered the ginger beef lunch plate. After taking about 40 minutes for our order to arrive, i took about three bites and it seemed pretty good. There wasn't anything that looked under-cooked or strange. My mom's order of pho soup was also fine, then i felt pressure in my chest. Maybe it was just the wait or something, but i didn't feel right. It lasted a minute or two and i continued to eat my lunch.

Next i felt a small sharp pain that arched across my left side, to the armpit, followed by dizzines for a minute or two.

Although i didn't fall down or faint, it was a scary moment. I finished my lunch and went home having two bouts of diarrhea that evening. By that time, i recalled that heart attacks were described to be sharp pains and were associated with the bowel movements i was having so i decided to go to the emergency room at clovis community hospital.

I was there for a few hours. The doctors and techs ran tests for blood and x-rayed my chest. This is all standard stuff with a report of chest pain. What i really needed was cardiology with a focus on tests like an echo and nt-bnp blood testing, but the procedures that the doctor's follow involve basic testing with a referral to a specialist for further testing. I would need to go to my primary care physician to get a referral to a cardiologist, so that is what i did. Doctor ford at clovis sent me home after being under observation for a few hours and did not prescribe or ref.

When i finally got to see my primary, she was happy to ref and started the whole process of authorization to see a doctor. That's the norm with medi-cal, one has to get the ref and then auth for the consultation and then new auths for anything further. So it was waiting for the authorization and then making the appointments and waiting for further authorizarions for testing and then making those appointments. Medi-cal needs to be improved for more timely care to happen, but that's another complaint.

I went to dr. Sanjay's heart clinic thinking that i had some modern access to health care that was in a new office, with new equipment, and that it would be as good as the television ads on channel 30 made it seem. What's even better is that the place is right up the way from my house, so it would be a short drive. It started off well, but didn't finish properly.

The doctor gave two different appointments with echo techs, one chest and one body, so far so good. I thought certain that they would discover any ischemia or trauma from poison in food due to clotting. They did not report any but, the echo shows an ejection fraction below 60% compared to a clovis community echo from 2013 showing greater than 60 to 65%. That would seem to be a change in the heart's pumping capacity. Even though i gave the previous echo to dr. Sanjay, he does not seem to have given it the detailed analysis that i expected, due to the fact that the follow-up appointments made no mention of it.

Another problem i encountered with him was that he may be treaing me with standards for heart disease rather that heart damage. I am not a senoir citizen with many years of developing heart disease, rather i am a victim of crime with a damaged heart due to poisoning. The clovis echo states, "there is tricuspid valve regurgitation" while sanjay's echo states, "structurally normal tricuspid valve with normal diastolic flow pattern." the two don't agree. Bad valves are discernable with a stethoscope, due to the variance in sound while the heart beats.

Another heart doc, dr. Punia looked at me before sanjay, and used a stethoscope to determine that there may actually be two valves that are bad. I haven't gotten everyone together for a meeting, but perhaps skype or hangouts would be in order to listen to everyone's input at one time.

This whole ordeal was so overwhelming to me that i purchased a book called the patient's guide to medical tests, 2nd edition by authors segen and wade. An excellent guide that tells what a test is called, what preperation is needed, and what to expect to pay. Page 95, that i have uploaded, states that doppler echocardiography returns abnormal values when there is narrowing or regurgitation in the heart. That means that the clovis 2013 echo showing tricuspid regurgitation is an abnormal value which is consistent with valve damage by drugging attack.

The guide also describes triglyceride tests, otherwise known as cholesterol tests, on page 306. It states that these numbers begin to increase in patients with acute myocardial infarction. My numbers have gone up since the first time i went to an er back in 2002 with similar chest pain symptoms from a similar kind of restaurant poisoning. It isn't easy being a targeted individual.

I think that there were two infarctions that happened at the time, due to weight loss and vericose veins, along with the increadibly painful chest pain that left me bedridden for about two weeks before i could walk and shower again.

I am seeking a proper diagnosis for this, so i went to the heart center with the best of intentions and thought that these people would help me, not misdiagnose me. After i read what the definition of heart failure was on webmd, i asked dr. Sanjay for a blood nt-bnp test along with cardiac mri to determine heart failure. He flat out denied me the test! i couldn't beleive it. Aren't these things availbale just for the asking? Shouldn't they have been given anyway?

Heart failure as defined by the national institutes of health is, "a condition in which the heart can't pump enough blood to meet the body's needs."
